But based on how many extensions they've given out, its unlikely they will be able to keep Kim even though he deserves an extension more than everyone in that roster who are overpaid and not doing anything. But hey, there's always room for him with the Dodgers. We need a shortstop and we got a big Korean community here in LA. Kim is always welcome to come to the Dodgers. 😁

Quite surprised with Kim tbh. he was more known for his hitting and base running skills when he was in Korea then all of a sudden he's defensive skill stepped up immensely in MLB. But anyway it's always good to see him doing good and padres fan loving him.
I've heard that before and it's super interesting! I'd love to learn how Kim took his defense to a whole new level for MLB. He must have put in some serious work in the off-season.
Right! Maybe much of it is to the poorer condition of the field grass in Korean ballparks? Anyway, I am so glad to see his improved defense. So entertaining to watch.
@@jayhan1968 It's partially true, the grass Kim used at the gochuk sky dome was artificial grass, which is not an easy grass to defend on
@@jeremyrpittman So recently Kim appeared in a popular Korean variety show interview where he said, when he first came to the states, he cried a lot by himself at home and tried to adjust to MLB level pitching through batting cage practices everyday. Realizing his offense would need some time improving, he said he put it all out on the field every time he was on defense so that he could a least contribute that way.
There were also some funny stories that Kim told such as the fact that during team dinners, he tries to stick close to Machado’s table because that’s where the good and expensive wine tend to be

I was at the game at 0:30, and I was at the game last night where he hurt his shoulder diving full speed at home where they were trying to tag him out. Dude has no care for his safety as long as he makes the play for his team. Hope he knows he doesn’t have to kill himself for us, but man what a feeling having him on our team.
That's an insane catch to see live! Puts the Derek Jeter catch to shame! Kim goes all out on every play which is awesome but the Padres need him healthy too!

In Kim's case, I think his work ethic and effort got him to this high level. He isn't the tallest, fastest, or strongest. But no doubt has some impressive God given ability too.

Seriously! They need to get his jersey in the Team Shop. My wife had to customize a jersey last year to get Kim on the back. It would be nice to have some shirts and other gear too
At 2:30 that hop he did when he spun around he definitely practiced that, as a shortstop I did that every practice for about an hour. That jump before the hop really helps you place your feet perfect to throw immediately. He does it effortlessly so light on his feet I love watching him

He’s been the best infielder since he came into the league. When he took over for Tatis at SS, Padres went from the team with the most errors to the team with the least errors. Not saying Tatis isn’t a great SS and there are things that he can do that Kim can never do but Kim needs to be there. Bogaerts is great too but I hope he can swallow his pride and start slowly switching with Kim. We’ve seen short stops struggle at second early in the transition…thinking of Trea Turner. And Tatis needs to be in Center Field. If the best athlete on your team isn’t at short then he better be in center. Doesn’t mean he’ll never play short again, there will be plenty of chances. I would also like to see Tatis back at short every once in awhile. You gotta let these guys play and have fun. Bob ain’t taking advantage of his roster and letting some of these guys get the job done their own way. I bet Manny would be stoked to have a couple days there too.

I know it's insane! I'm not a sabermetrics expert but it seems Baseball Reference (bWAR) puts a lot more emphasis on defense which bumps Kim's score. His fWAR isn't in the top 20.
