Good to see someone who admits they don’t really know what they’re doing. At least you know the engine is a runner. Just a bloke with a handful of spanners, a Haynes manual, and a bit of trial and error. All on his driveway, no fancy garage with all the tools.
    Keep it up.

That multimeter will be a loyal companion to you on your motorcycling journey. Great to see someone connecing with their bike mechanically and not just relying on the gerage.

Just bought my Blackbird 4 weeks ago. Rode it up to Aberdeen from Liverpool, no issues until I reached Aberdeen, then it started misfiring. Since then, I checked the battery and rectifier with the multimeter, all good. Check the ECU connections, all good. Did the loom fix that the blackbird needs or at least can stop certain electrical issues. Still misfiring. Took the tank off, replaced the air filter with the Hi-flo one, and put new plugs in. She runs sweet now. What a bike though.....love it.

Well done fella you deserve your reward 😊try using a funnel next time you pour oil, best practice is to fill the oil filter before you fit it, that way you don't get a slug of oil draining straight from the sump. Bike sounds awesome 👌

welldone bud, check your oil level as youve more than likely put too much in as its smoking like hell and they shouldnt do that even after sitting for a while and run the bike up to temperature (when the fan comes on).
Also you need to push your forks down further into the top yolks (not tripple tree's) as far down as the thin indent in the top of the forks, there's supposed to be a small circlip/snap ring in that groove and needs to sit against the top surface of the yolks to be in th right position.
Left like that it will steer really quickly and be nose end biased and not very confidence inspiring for such a heavy bike. Change it before you ride it buddy.
If you need to us your multimeter turn the knob to where it says 20v and it will test up to 20v. Your bike is a 12v system so it should give you a reading of what the state of charge is. You need between 12.8 and 13.3v to show healthy unit. When the bike is running, put the red probe to pos, black probe to black and see if the bike is charging, it should say above 13v and when you rev it wth the lights on, the voltage should drop and then pick up again on the multi meter showing the stator in the crank case on the L/H/S is charging everything as required.
They're lovely bikes and run forevevr when looked after, I'm currently riding my VFR800 VTEC which is over 170K now so just shows what these motors from Honda are good for.....
Well done for taking the leap of faith and buying such a damaged one to bring back.......another bike back on the road........BRILLIANT
I've done several of these, have yu checked the wheel bearings yet as its been in a smash so make sure you have no play in them or again it will handle like a jellyfish on rollorskates.

@@BikesofRye could be interesting, I've not heard of this done before.
Forks are a pig for oil weight and height and might need a tune, but you know when they're right as mine felt awful. totally different when done right.

Glad to see that the bike ran in the end. Just one comment, apart from using a funnel as David Reed suggested. If you hold the oil container with the spout at the top instead of the logical way by the handle, it will stop an airlock being formed, which in turn makes the oil gulp out as it did with you. Looking forward to seeing the test ride, keep up the good work.

    • @3647Edd
      @3647Edd Рік тому

Rotate the oil can through 90 degrees either way so it’s effective,y on its side and that way when pouring it is far less likely to glug like you experienced. Really does work and little chance of it going down the side of the engine! Loving the build videos fella, well done and keep going.

Mate, I've been watching this with pretty much bated breath. I have an xx-5 model Blackbird (obviously injection) in Candy Phoenix Blue sitting in my garage with 13k miles on it. Had it since 2006. It hasn't been started in 10 years. Last time I looked at it (about a year ago) I couldn't even open the fuel cap so I didn't bother although I have some desire to ride it again. I've been concerned about the effort required or if it's even worth doing but this series of posts has encouraged me that maybe it could be done. So thanks.

Well done on getting to this point. You should be proud of how you are sharing your learning path. Most people who are handy with DIY spannering have all learned on the job - at first with few tools and building on their mistakes. Personally, I have found that hand injuries/cuts/grazes etc never go away though!
The way you remain calm despite the frustrations is admirable.
Looking forward to the rest of the build! Cheers

Been watching but a first time post on this....first and foremost. Very brave to put up your mistakes, what you do know, what you dont...takes some guts on this platform! Personally id have stripped the thing to the frame and built from the ground up powdercoating/cerakoting and generally cleaning as you build....long term it makes for an easier build. I would have gone resto mod myself and built, and upgraded as well...trick suspension, ecu work/dyno that kind of thing and built a wolf in sheeps clothing...most bikes if fitted with good suspension and set up work really well...ive got an old pre electronics rsv4 factory with a ttx mk2 on the rear and NiX30 cartridges on the front....the handling for me is sublime. Anyway, rambling...well done sir on what youve learnt and accomplished so far...
