Astonishing - I’ve enjoyed this song for about 60 years and never was moved by it like this. As well as the singing, the method acting she puts into the story is stunning - as someone else said, the gesture on the line ‘I said ok’ speaks volumes. And lots more too - brilliant. Bob u
I’m here because I’ve recently been watching C. B. Strike and looked up the singer of the theme song. Wow! This performance can proudly stand beside the grand dames of Brit song, like Cilla, Dusty and Sandi. Kudos and cheers Beth, well done!
Me too!, I actually went to one of Beth’s gigs to ask her about the Strike theme tune… she told me it was Session job, recorded one afternoon and the rest of the song was never finished… I think its one of the best TV theme tunes ever, and I’ve been a fan of Beth ever since!
I have a double CD of Gene Pitney. I am 77 years old and to me he was one of the very best. I love all his tracks but the one that always comes back to me is the haunting "Tower Tall".
Ooohhh, she really performs this, truly emotes it. The way she looks when she says that she said okay to staying at the cafe with the guy, she emoted that shame that would come with that. Brilliant.
A travesty that this only has 76k views...Beth might not have made it big but to sing such an iconic song with Burt on piano must be an experience she will never forget.
a brilliant performance .. so stylish like her predecessors .. dusty, dionne and the like she is a very under rated artist her first album and Gota Fria are excellent.
Haven't seen this for years !! Although I did occasionally see Beth in the supermarket in Gloucester Road, Bristol. Watched her in pubs and clubs back in the day in her early years ..... Love her latest album too .... xx
A thousand thank yous for uploading this. I have been searching for this ever since catching 30 seconds of the BBC broadcast. My god can she sing. Thanks again uploader.
Love Pitney’s version, but it’s all power. This version has so much more expression and finesse. Sort of like the difference between Dolly’s version of “I Will Always Love You” and Whitney’s version. Whitney’s is just power, but Dolly’s is all heart.
I love the way she sings it, but I'm a bit surprised the lyric changes were retained. Okay, maybe the world wasn't ready for a lesbian version. But maybe the world might be ready for a female protagonist who asks the male to stay, who does the kissing, caressing, etc.
I would be intrested to know what you do/did in your life and if it ever also fitted the discription "If you can't make it better than don't make it worse" I think her version is stunning, and my opinion is what really counts to me!!
That’s true. I am not homophobic, but 24hrs is a descriptive song, if she sang it about her female lover, I wouldn’t play it, anymore than I would sing along with a guy, describing kiss and hugging his male lover!! I would have no connection to that experience. Jimmy Somerville’s who is gay, version of “don’t leave me this way” is great and on my playlist. It doesn’t have physically descriptive lyrics. When I singing along with Jimmy, he’s singing it to a man and I am singing it to a woman. It works for both of us.
No, no, I would not suggest that that would or should happen, just sayin, we are a lot different society now but we do not change old song words. Same with By the time I get to Phoenix.."that phone kept on ringing off the wall" No wall handsets anywhere now@@tq25tn
Oh oh. You guys must be hearing a different singer to me. I think she really struggles - intonation out, struggles with high register and low register and some optional notes she sings don't fit the chord. Sorry

I love this lady, a great song stylist

Gene made this song his own!

100 % she is a star. Beautiful and a fantastic singer
Gene Pitney singing this song is on my Desert Island Discs list. I have to say she comes a very close second. Wow.
This is a great song and a wonderful performance by Beth.
This is fantastic she sings with such passion,

New cd. “Gota Fría” now out, brilliant.
superb version emotionally sung
What a singer... what a beauty.
Like a modern day Dusty Springfield...🤗🤩😍
This is the greatest song ever and under the radar.
Thanks too - I love love love this version!
Didn't think anyone could do this as well as Gene Pitney who I saw live in Stoke on Trent in the 70's
best interpretation ever for this song. fantastic. awesome. super.
I agree
Almost..not quite....dusty springfields version is better..then of course gene pitneys original ...but this is pretty dam good eh
Great song, love the full orchestra.
Best version I have ever heard fantastic
no way this is not as good as original you have to be kidding me
@@gregorybaynham1122 my opinion you don’t have to agree with it
if you want to learn how to deliver a song with passion watch this beautiful woman what a star.
just wonderful
Absolutely fantastic

How it should be sung...... I love this lady X
Very well done, love the voice, the emotional delivery. Big fan now
I love her!!! ❤
Amazing singer - shame there's not enough recordings of her work
new cd out. Gota Fría , amazing.
This is a great version, however Dusty Springfield's version is much better, sang with great emotion. RIP Dusty,
I agree. I've got 1 cd of hers sadly no more
me again watched that video so many times, still love it.
Fab version of a classic.
So Sublime!!!
Awesome
Many thanks for uploading this. Was looking for it for a while now
Love her
Sh casings with real emotion, makes it believable. Unusual delivery compared to the way most singers would sing it.
I dream of leaving my lover after listening to this. How can someone not fall in love with Beth?
Wow, best version of this song ever 😅
October 22, 2008
A doubtful ok but still ok. Well done Beth, you really sang a story.
Two words, Gene Pitney, Check out May Lou by the Creative Force, amazing
She tells the story as though it happened to her personally.
i think after this and quiet dawn i want to marry the woman
Sorry, not feeling it, But when Dusty sang it, that was lovely and passionate! Dusty was my
Jam🔥💕🎤
Why is the tempo so slow?
Good, but I'd go with the Gene Pitney version
this is brill fkin brill totally brill ...i mean brill out of this planet..will you marry me
her voice is just too light for such a powerful song......Gene got it spot on.
I love the way she sings it, but I'm a bit surprised the lyric changes were retained. Okay, maybe the world wasn't ready for a lesbian version. But maybe the world might be ready for a female protagonist who asks the male to stay, who does the kissing, caressing, etc.
Dusty Springfield version is BEST!!
Having just listened to Gene Pitney this just doesn’t do it for me.
If you can't make it better than don't make it worse
I would be intrested to know what you do/did in your life and if it ever also fitted the discription "If you can't make it better than don't make it worse" I think her version is stunning, and my opinion is what really counts to me!!
Now in 2023 we have same sex relationships acknowledged, any female singing this one could change it to "her"

DUSTY owns this song - sorry this doesn’t do it for me
