That explains the different patterns. I was just playing this and seeing it all different I thought I was playing a different version of the game, whew
I am so glad to see this run. When I heard you say JXQ's run could be improved, I couldn't wait for this run. I heard that there were nasty frame rules, RNG values, and luck manipulation.
In terms of luck, this one is pushy, as the luck only changes when you bump, inhale, or the boss wants to change their decision. (Kirby's Dream Land - How RNG Behaves)
VERY nice. The DeDeDe fight was quite entertaining. Was it just me, or did you inhale/swallow enemies a good bit faster than is normal? Bug/exploit, TAS speed, or just bad memory?
yeah actually i noticed that too, my emulator and all of my gameboys (dmg, color, advance, advance sp) don't run like that. ive been playing the game for 8 years now and there is always even a slight frame drop when you inhale an enemy. if there is no frame drop its because theres not much going on on the screen, but even then 2 enemies on the same screen is pushing it. theres no way he/she made it through that first level with all that shit going on without using emulator speed hacks because the original hardware doesnt run like that, neither does my emulator. Not to be a pain in the ass, but i wouldn't consider this a legit speed run.
A TAS has nothing to do with your personal experiences playing the game. It features manipulation at the highest level, meaning even things like frame drop are eliminated if possible.
Flying is one of the slowest forms of movement, and getting Inorder to damage boost makes Kirby go faster plus walking is faster overall. Also this is a TAS run lmao
"A tool-assisted speedrun or tool-assisted superplay(frequently abbreviated TAS) is a controller input sequence constituting a performance of a video game. Said input sequence is usually created by emulating the game, with "tools" such as slow motion, frame-by-frame advance, memory watch, and re-recording (save states) of gameplay used to aid in the input sequence's creation. The idea is not to make gameplay easy with such "tools", but rather to produce a demonstration of gameplay pushed to the limit that would be theoretically possible where human limitations in skill, reflex and consistency were not an issue. Tool-assisted speedruns often feature gameplay that would otherwise be impossible or prohibitively difficult to perform in real time. Producers of tool-assisted speedruns do not compete with "unassisted" speedrunners of video games; on the contrary, collaborative efforts between the two groups often take place." -Wikipedia
Hi. I have this game and play it and it's played on an actuall GBC. My sprites are different and the first tree boss doesnt drop spikes. I play on a GBC.
Hes playing on hard mode. Theres a button combo you can press on the title screen to play hard mode. The game tells you the button combo after watching the credits. Hard mode is HARD. All the enemies are new(hence the different sprites). The enemies have much more difficult attacks and are more numerous. Also bosses are beefed up. For example the tree now drops spikes and apples. Its a tough mode and i only ever beat it once. You should definitely try it.
ChuChu: "Kirby, come over."
Kirby: "Can't, taking back all the food from King Dedede."
ChuChu: "I'm home alone."
Kirby:
I am your 69th like
Hi, this is the hard mode of the game that you can unlock by holding up+select+A. You can also unlock a config menu by pressing down+select+B.
Is there a specific reason you used extra mode, like it being any faster, or is it just for spectacle?
@@bingo2underscores it just bc all speedruns are on extra mode. IDK why but maybe it just noraml mode is WAY to easy (i made this in 5:52 m so)
That explains the different patterns. I was just playing this and seeing it all different I thought I was playing a different version of the game, whew
the kirby boss rush in dreamland looks like a megaman stage select
Yeah
Sure brings back some good memories as a kid nice speed run

Really Amazing TAS ! Thank you for all your work after 11 years ! :D

This game brings back sooo many childhood memories 😊
i just recently beat the game on normal mode, and sheesh, extra game mode is surprisingly harder than i thought
0:11 AAAAAAA IS THAT A CUPCAKE THROWING THE FROSTING
Am I getting that old that at 0:50 I don't remember those pigs being there. 😱
No, you arent old or something. He plays on hardmode and not the normal difficulty
@mugg1991
ZONICvsMARIO may also not be aware of the Extra Mode code used to play (changes enemy sprites/behavior, damage, etc.)

I've done it many times before using my old gameboy. So yeah this works.
Slab Comics 8 years?! Have you thought about getting a life?
in the first level you can fly through on the very top of the sceen and you won't get hit by anyone
streeture he wants to get hit and flying is slowing you down

He entered the doors with impossible gordos on them without using the imposter kirby!

Travis Townley
it’s an exploit, not a glitch. there’s a difference.

The dodge flex had me shitting bricks
11 years, oh my god
I'd vote for you, but I don't have a TASVids account. D:

Where did the microphone ability come from in the Dedede battle?
6:51 7:10 7:41 8:11 what the....
Two Kirbys?!?
Those are the 'end of level'-kirby's. You touch them to open up the doors normally.
JanusChan
Well I know but still
TWO KIRBYS?!?
Joshua Phillips well ... At the end of each level there is 3 of them so I don't know why are you surprised
mugg is da boss
...and I couldn't even beat stage 1....
How can't you beat stage 1 this is a kirby game
When kirby becomes migatte no gokui
don't SAS me or mugg1991 we beaten this game already?
DESOFFICIAL1 i don't even understand what you're saying.
I guess they did.
144p? I see you're staying true to the original game's conservative use of cartridge space.
Was this run manipulated (in terms of luck)
Yes, it is. Kirby bounces around, creating a star which indicates that you are manipulating luck. Bosses need luck, too.

Is this on the game boy version, the Wii port, or a PC ROM?
it's the pc port!!!
DESOFFICIAL1 emulation
TAS = not an actual speedrun
Emulator
No way, Sherlock! Could that be the reason of how this is a TAS speedrun as well?
but can you do that on a gameboy?
Absolutely not
TAS = no one is playing the game
TAS = fake speedrun
