- This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS) of GBA Kirby & The Amazing Mirror which I created in an emulator (VBA-rr). The run aims to complete the game as fast as possible.

This is a TAS, the game was slowed down and savestates were used to make gameplay perfect.
The game was played in an emulator and over a long time (a month of work) I created a button input sequence that completes the game the way that you see it in the video.
So this is both fake yet real
What do I believe?
it means. it is entirely possible to recreate the same run but is just extremely hard to do those frame perfect moves. basically tas speedrun is the fastest possible time to complete the game(with no cheatcode ,but possible "hack" like rng manipulation which is able to be done by human but rather tedious and unreliable but never the less possible. which is why i fancy tas runs)

I've 100-percented this game like 6 times, and I never realized that the wheel was immune to spikes.

just dont turn while youre in an enemy hitbox, you can usually tell most kirby hitboxes from their sprites or models
if you notice he is playing the japonais version . different region of the same game may have some tricks and glitchs as the wheel ignore the spikes this may be only in the japonais version

1:35 Fighting Frosty with wheel is faster than shooting stars at him
1:43 Skipping the Moonlight Mansion button is faster because we go to Candy Constellation from Peppermint Palace now. This was adopted from Blackbread's RTA.
2:25 Fighting King Golem with Wheel is faster in the TAS and resetting saves about 5 seconds
3:15 We go to Cabbage Cavern's button instead of Ocean, skipping Cabbage Cavern's 2nd button which is faster. Also adopted from Blackbread.
3:43 We go to Carrot Castle on a different and much faster path. Also adopted from Blackbread. The idea is to complete Castle, have wheel and reappear next to Rainbow Route's door to go to Mustard Mountain. I'm still conflicted if no-reset saves enough time or not (my testing was a bit faulty), to be honest, but it is very minimal.
6:00 By mixing Missile here, we do not have to get Missile from Olive Ocean button room, so we can skip that button.
6:44 Getting candy beats Batafire faster. This was also adopted from Blackbread.
7:42 I need to press both buttons at Peppermint Palace because I will complete Peppermint Palace later.
12:43 I feel conflicted about this room. It could be completed fast if a pal Kirby helped break the bomb block but there's no way to manipulate luck like that. UFO ended up being a few seconds slower so I went through with missile.
14:24 I use a new strategy with double star to kill Gobbler very fast
18:31 Instead of coming here slowly with a mixed Hammer, I use a pal Kirby and double star to kill Wiz fast as well.
19:50 At the time of production, I wasn't sure if to reset here but it turned out you can skip the Dark Metaknight cutscene by softresetting, saving about 16 seconds in total (but leaving you with no Throw ability). It is faster this way. I also use double stars for all the Dark Minds instead of throw. This is also faster because I get to keep Master which starts the subsequent fight faster (you don't have to grab the sword first).
21:52 I use a pal Kirby to use Hammer Up b's in the air to deal much damage. And somehow, if you manage to hit both mirrors at the same time you can deal damage on both mirrors. At the time of production , I didn't know this was possible (the old strategy involved hitting the eye and the mirror instead of both mirrors).
22:46 I don't have the exact frame numbers at hand, but 22:46 is the point where the last hit on Dark Mind 6 is dealt and so the TAS' length measured in RTA timing would be about 22:45. But I don't end timing here since Kirby & Amazing Mirror TASes have a tradition of completing the Staff roll minigame with a ridiculous hit number. 240 is possible with Kirby alone. It had been mentioned that you could use other Kirbys to kill Darkmind6 faster and get a higher number and I had said that you can't because of his invincibility spans. I think the truth is, you can't kill Darkmind6 faster because he does have invincibility spans. But you can get higher hit numbers because the game does keep track of each hit regardless of an invincibility span. But you can't really control the stupid AI and make it much more ridiculous so I only got 248 out of the game along with Green Kirby. In theory, multiplayer could get 960 (maximum the game allows is 999, then it loops to 0).

Also one thing I noticed, his gameplay is WAY more vibrant than mine. I have an actual gameboy advance sp so maybe that's why?

My guess is that the game has a "First Time" flag for entering the mirror, and when you enter the mirror and watch the cutscene a little bit, the flag is set to 0, making the game think that it is not the first time the player has entered the mirror. The game checks for this flag when the player tries to skip the cutscene, and it won't let the player skip if the flag is set. And you can restart the game by pressing A, B, START, SELECT simultaneously.

with the emulator's built-in avi capture. The emulator is visualboyadvance-24m-svn3xx rerecording. I capture the avi uncompressed and encode it with x264 usually. This video in particular I captured uncompressed and encoded to mpeg4 or h264 in virtualdub because I didn't know about x264 at the time. That's why the video's quality is a bit bad, washed down, blocky..

Chex Mix i found meta titan to be a bit of a pain when i was a kid but i finally beat the first form after it drained me to one bar i literally turned off my gba after second phase started

I hit him in the eye 2 times and I hit both mirrors, which is 90 damage (20,20,25,25). So either the guide is wrong and I dealt more, or I hit his eye at the same time I hit both mirrors.

I really liked the names of the stages...Mustard Mountain, Peppermint Palace, Olive Ocean, etc. Also, at times, the music reminded me of Sonic the Hedgehog. Great TAS and game overall =)
The route is pretty much set in stone. It's just about if you can keep wheel/missile all the way through until you reach a boss or not (and if not, you waste some minutes).
There is a 28 minute long RTA on nicovideo that does very good in that regard, using missile for all of the ocean, and wheel everywhere else.

i always had the greatest time playing this game. looking all over, checking every single area, looking for a secret, or a new area. even then, i couldn't even get close to fixing the mirror.
all that, and i quit, only to see the game get absolutely torn apart from top to bottom in a TAS. nice.

Ngl this was lit af to watch. I loved this game as a kid and seeing my two fave abilities be speedrun god mode tools just put a smile on my face. Kinda like the time I found out about Sand Rush Excadrill.
How the fuq are the stars doing that much damage lol. I'm just amazed at how good this speed run is though. Nice job!

In my opinion still the best Kirby game. Especially because of the exploration and open world.
I wish missile was in a new Kirby game already. Judging by the awesome capabilities of it once activated on land and going into water, I think it would fit pretty well in a new game, air and motion wise. It was pretty cool to see you fly your way through most of the levels.
Man, candy constellation is such a great area, excellent art and the ost is the best of that game
The hitboxes work like that. You can also at 12:38 how I bypass the cannon - I glide beneath it (crouching).
Wow. The only thing better than this would be four TASes on linked systems completing the game in co-op as optimally as possible.

lobsteros (Channel Lobster's Alt) I could maybe create a tas of pink Kirby in link mode, then send to you and you do player 2, then you send to someone else and do player three, and so on. Wouldn’t need sync, as all the inputs for each Kirby would be on one TAS
ah, carrot castle. my deeply beloathed. it genuinely heals my inner child to watch someone absolutely tear through it like its nothing.
It's cool to see how many things were cross-inspired/referenced between this and Smash Bros. Master and Crazy Hand are literally bosses in this game, and the level design in this game inspired the level design of the Subspace maze in Brawl. All hail Master-Hero Soccer-Guy.
well much like with Mario Land, I want a break from this game now. Also 100% would need some major re-routing and incorporate resets after some treasure chests etc.
And then I would have to TAS _everything_ of that again in super optimization. I don't feel motivated for that really :/ I thought maybe I'll work on Mario & Luigi again or something

7 minutes in and clearly this SPEEDRUN is Godlike Speed! No mortal human being has these capabilities. Either that or the creators got a computer program to walkthrough this prism like maze of a labyrinth! #UndoubtablyFlabberGasted
