Actually you're wrong there. Vauxhall and Opel started out as two different companies. GM bought both companies in the 1920's and Opel is the brand that traveled around the world, not Vauxhall. Vauxhall has never been sold outside the UK.
This Vauxhall is a rebrand of holden
🇦🇺
Opel is owned by Vauxhall as in other countries Vauxhall means something inappropriate meaning Opel was created
@@keanesmith2457 no both are owned by PSA (used to be gm) one doesnt own the other. Opel sells everywhere except the UK because vauxhall is a more familiar name to the UK market and will get more sales than opel. They used to be entirely different companies long ago

I love how people are passing him on the highway.
Why drive fast and risk your license when you already know that you are in a fast car, he can easily take 99 percent of the cars passing him, it’s very nice to cruise and enjoy the sound
Interesting history lesson well done Top Gear Uk!
Finally James met someone who matches his personality
Great video! More like that please
Actually, the Buick is a rebadged Opel/Vauxhall Insignia. The Regal is now also built by GM Canada, but until 2011 they were imported. The car is designed, engineered and built by Opel in Russelsheim, Germany
nice road test by James May on the Vauxhall insignia Vxr and it's possible for series 23 to have this Vauxhall insignia vxr tested against its American and Canadian version the Buick Regal GS with Chris Evans taking Vauxhall insignia vxr, but Matt LeBlanc on the Buick Regal GS. Regarding signs that Margaret Calvert made she must have copied blue
signs on the interstate highway indicate a service area or food and fuel for use as junction signs like the ones on M20 Junction 11a Channel Tunnel folkestone or M1 Junction 19 M6 Birmingham The North West
That's exactly what I thought looking at this, they look identical. Not amazingly fast though but they look sporty.
In england they are Vauxhall-branded,just like Daewoos are branded as Chevrolets in Europe & in the US
Vauxhalls are opels in the eu
Just watched the last EP of the new series WOW!!
This was hilarious! Nice car too!
wOW WELL DONE! You watched the video and stated the obvious, have a medal.
It's available as the Buick Regal in the states. You can also get the turbo version of this cars here as well.
the vauxhall insignia was designed and developed in luton, england with a little help from saab engineers who were contracted to develop the turbocharging and peformance technology and overall build quality. ( previous to this model, vauxhall has always had build quality issues ). GM then marketed the insignia under different names for different markets including buick in america, and the platform was available to saab to develop it's new 2010 saab 9-5 model ( which was even better )
So... in the UK it's a Vauxhall VXR, in Germany it's an Opel Insignia OPC and in the US it's a Buick Regal GS.
Now the question is... wich came first?
I believe it was developed by GM/Opel in Germany and sold as Opel and Vauxhall at the same time. So Opel and Vauxhall came first together and the Buick is just a knock-off.
in australia its holden insignia vxr
From the man who brought you a house made entirely of Lego™ bricks, comes this summer's blockbuster new series, Road Signs featuring James May and Margaret Calvert.
i love top gear
Another great one cpt slow.
When was this aired??
What do you mean by that? I mean that if I search for VXR Insignia I get this car as a result...
Vauxhall Insignia VXR, Great video
First episode of 2010, like just after new years day i think? they had some gag going about how they where filming in 2009 but it was being shown in 2010.
Same episode had Richard driving the Lexus LFA and Jezza the BMW X6 if memory serves me right!
hahahah james may got so excited with the instrument lighhting changed in to red
I wish this car were available in the states.
It's the other way around.
"GM showed a concept GS version of the Regal based on the Opel Insignia"
From Wiki.
By Chance does anyone know if they make this car in left hand drive?
Does anybody know the songs name between 2:20 and 2:40?
@Magnus K in singapore it's 100,000 for a second hand golf GTI...
That's the best looking Buick I've ever seen. Powerrrrrr
Really nice.
So is the sporty buick regal just as good?
The seat heater XD
Holden is Australian haha but yes all 3 companies I'm pretty sure run under GM (General Motors) where they'll rebadge cars to sell in different countries. Hence why you'll see pretty much the same car with a different badge. The Opel Astra for example, don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure is sold under Vauxhall in the UK and under Holden in Australia for along time (however Opel now sell cars in Australia so it's under Opel here now too.)
My dads gonna buy this very soon. Right now hr had a 08 vectra
i think its such a beautiful car
7:49 "Did you put my seat heater on, for a joke?"
VXR is a brithish equivalent to OPC right ? (sorry for my bad english)
Thankfully.
"Did you put my seat heater on for a joke?" LOL, was it JR or Hamster?
yeah right it was Holden
i knew Opel cars are sold under another name in australia and yes its Opel there now too :)
afaik most vauxhall cars are made of opel cars with slight modifications (they do have different spare parts lists)
dont know about holden, but i think its the same
but ofc vauxhall also builds there own cars
but well, i think everyone can just check wikipedia for more info :)
Well, I agree with the last sentence, it's what I meant, I'm sorry if you misunderstood me. I don't understand what you mean by "the name Opel comes from Opelisation...". The name Opel comes from Adam Opel who founded Opel in 1860s in Germany. Of course, under GM, both Opel and Vauxhall have borrowed designs from one another and were cars from the same generation were based on the same, well, base. Today, most of the engineering and the design phase take place in Germany...
Wow makes me want to take my 11 Regal Turbo and go get a GS!
Buick Regal GS... Love it
Thx
Lovely Motor
It´s also an opel insignia opc ^^
its also a buick.
What a beauty
fantastek vauxhall and opel GM GERMAN
Top Gear season 20 ended, hope the next season comes soon.
welcome... to top gear
so technically Vauxhall came first to be bought by GM and then named Opel in Europe!?
thx gadgetguy. your da bestest!!
As a Norwegian it's funny to watch TopGear and hearing what "expensive" cars cost in the UK...
Here's the numbers in Norway:
The Opel Insignia 1,4T costs from 33000 GBP...
A wagon with a 2litre 110HP turbodiesel will set you back about 35000 GBP, that's the most popular one here....
And of course there's the 2,8T AWD OPC edition, wich costs from 105000 GBP.... Wich isn't so popular, for obvious reasons.
GM will brand it based on the market they're in. Vauxhall in UK, Opel in the rest of Europe, Holden in Australia, Buick in North America, etc.
I have one of these in the same colour.... it is an epic car for the money you can buy them for now... far better than the vectra vxr of which I still own one of them 😊
Nice
holden commodore vf?
Yes
Why is Opel called Vauxhall in Britain?
Henric Oscarsson why is mx5 mazda called the miata in the US?
What do you drive then? A honda insight?
They would make a great couple!
Opel designes and produces cars for the European market. Opel is a subsidairy of GM since 1929. That didn't stop them from developing their own cars. GM has always let them develop their own cars. From 1980's Vauxhall became part of General Motors and was from now only producing Opel developed cars, with a Vauxhall badge.
holden cruise?
"A fire breathing monster with a spine of iron" and "without the VXR button on it still goes like stink"...says Captain Slow !
THE LATEST EPISODE OF SERIES 20 WAS FANTASTIC! it really shows that we british can actually make good cars!
Yes.
That's because Buicks are based on Opel (Vauxhall) designs.
i know right! i drove this car in Russia 2 years before it even came to the US
I'd like Topgear's videos to be longer... none is over 10 minutes. They should be 20 min at least don't you think?
It is, the Vauxhall VXR is just a re-badged Buick Regal GS.
They the same Vaughall is the name that they use in uk and open everywhere else
your right
no way joe kinnear hahahahhaa 2:27
They taught us about this in Graphics LOL
Vauxhall was an independent company but were bought by GM and now the brand is being used to make right hand drive Opel
What? Opel is easy to say, it's called Vauxhall here since they were already a well known brand when GM took over.
Exactly and it was way more interesting than the car!
Isn't that also a buik regal?
Only in Great Britain. The rest of Europe it's Opel, simply because Brits prefer to buy a British brand. Little do they know, it's actually a rebadged Opel. Since the 1980's, practicly every single car produced by Vauxhall, are enginered by Opel in Russelsheim, Germany.
It is... Think the Buick Regal is quite similar to the Insignia...
I want to get the Buick GS the US version
think they're selling these as buick regals here in the U.S
yes..yes it is
Opel is just called Vauxhall in the UK
nope
vauxhall is just the UK (and australien?) version of opel cars - well most times
look up on wikipedia for more - i dont know it exactly
Buick Regal??
I know, but I was just saying to the guy because he was talking about the Buick, not the Opel. But all 3 cars are the same.
well Buick used Opel/Vauxhalls design
Vauxhall is the Opel in the UK. Just like Acura are American Hondas, and Lexus are American Toyotas, or like Infinity that are American Nissans.
because it is
Vauxhall VXR or Buick Regal GS?
Haha, not really. There was Vauxhall in the UK, and there was Opel in Germany. GM acquired both and now Vauxhall is just a name that seems more familiar to the Brits.
I wouldn't call it "deceiving". Many car companies rebadge cars as different brands for different markets. I'm an Aussie living in the US and here they badge a lot of Hondas as Acuras, their "luxury division". They're not trying to deceive people, it's just brand differentiation. I understand your saying that they are trying to sell Korean crap, and die-hard Holden fans think it's great anyway (which is true) but that's not the fault of the company, it's people who don't research what a car is.
Opel Insignia OPC
It's a great bargain for a sport sedan.
can somebody makes these "buick regal" comments away
Do you think James got it in?
this is so nice, wish it was here in the US. To bad this is a Buick and they only make luxury cars.
lovely carrrrr
they are called the opc insted of vxr
