  • This is a hike to the lake on top of Fawn Pass. This was July 24 and the wildflowers were great but the mosquitoes and flies were bad.

    A few years ago I hiked Bunsen peak, and remember looking out & wanting to see that beautiful section of wilderness I was overlooking. Seeing this really makes me want to go back out and make that happen!

    Stan- I am teacher and I suggest you find some funding to sponsor a "Preserve Our National Parks" Tour across the US- perhaps in school districts. Your videos are absolutely captivating, adventurous, interesting without being tedious and present our country in a beautiful light with a hands-on instantaneous non-virtual experience in real time. You must know that we are raising a generation that is little concerned with the value of things natural . These videos can change hearts and minds. Thank you sincerely.

      The plesure is all ours, with the awesome views and the safety of our PC. Super enjoyable, I just dont want to see you hurt, by a grumpy old boar bear. Black or silver. Mountain lion, wolf, bison or moose. Take care my friend, as my great grand mother from Kentucky used to say - "Keep your powder dry"

    Stan, my wife and I have been following you and we love the videos. We do a lot of backpacking in the southeast, and one trip in RMNP. We are headed to Yellowstone in 2020 for family vacation, and my wife and I want to squeeze in a backpacking trip while there, and we would love to pick your brain about picking a trail, and safety thoughts on bears. Let me know if you are interested in giving us some tips, and I can exchange emails.

    The one time I was out to Yellowstone, over ten years ago, we had all purchased bells to attach to our ankles, so as not to surprise any bears. I notice you don’t bother with this precaution. How do you stay so calm and relaxed hiking in bear territory?

    How dangerous is it to walk on these trails in this section of the park? What is the likelihood of encountering a bear on the trail? Seems like there are not many hikers. What is the best time to go to see the flowers?

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  2 роки тому +1

      You have a good chance of encountering a bear. But that is the reason I am out there, to see all the amazing wildlife including bears in God's beautiful creation. Dangerous is hard to define - it is more dangerous to drive my car to the trailhead but I still do it. I am thinking June and July are great times for wildflowers. I am now seeing the first wildflowers coming up. Thank you for your comments. I hope you get to Yellowstone and experience the backcountry in a respectful and peaceful way.

    Stan how do u hold the video camera so steady when you are zooming in and out of those long shots of animals? Are you using a tripod or hand held? I find the closer I get zoomed in the harder to locate on a subject and stay steady. Thx

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  5 років тому +1

      I use a Canon sx70 and a lightweight tripod. And then I use Apple free iMovie for editing. iMovie also has additional video stabilization that I use when needed. Thank you for your comments.

    Good video thanks, but thats too close to a bull moose. Those things are more dangerous than a griz and you should have kept walking vs recording. I plan to hike about half of this trail this September.

    Hello Stan. My wife and I just returned to Florida from a 10 day backpacking trip in the northwest corner of Yellowstone. We started at Glen's Creek Trailhead and hiked over Fawn Pass, up to Shelf Lake, then down to High Lake, Sportsman Lake, etc. and back out. This was only our second backpacking trip (we did a 10 day trip in the Thorofare area last September), but we found the flies and mosquitos to be especially bad. This was the first video of yours where I have seen the bugs look bad/heard you mention that the bugs were bad. I saw it again in your most recent video of Crag Lake, etc. I'm wondering if this is late in the year for the bugs to still be bad, or whether this is typical based on your experience hiking in this area. I'd love to talk more about the area sometime if you want to exchange e-mails. Thank you Stan.

    I just found one of your videos a few days ago and subscribed. I love the work you are doing. I am an energy healer with an extremely well-developed ability to feel things. The grizzly dig you found was a female and she was in the trees to the right of the path you noticed where she exited. It feels like she passed through there between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. The one at the end of your hike is a male.

    • @randallmarsh1187
      @randallmarsh1187 4 роки тому

      Well that was pretty vague! That female bear was actually 3 1/2 years old and was pregnant with 3 cubs, 2 females and a male. Those trees she was in were 10 year old Lodgepole Pines.
