Thanks Stan...very educational for us! And we'll add this trek to our growing list....We were on the Fawn Pass Trail yesterday morning....we hiked up to the pass. We've never seen it so green~~~Stunning. Cheers~~~
@@StanMills Several Elk.....we "surprised" a very large one coming out of the tree-line. She stood on a ridge perhaps 35-40 yards away and made a cry/bark we've never heard before....She sounded like a Native American Tom-Tom being slowly beat...Then she magnificently ran along the ridgeline. (The next time we will try to arrange having a 2nd vehicle in the BigHorn Pass parking area so we can cross the pass and walk all the way thru...).
You definitely have guts Stan. I've seen grizzlies there too and Taylor Fork is known for close bear encounters. Hope you carry something to save that life of yours in your belt should things get hot. We're all in awe with the beautiful views you film for us. You're the best and deserve many thanks from us.
Stan... thank you so much for making these videos! I love them all! I've probably watched each of them 3-4x each since I started a while back. I've been working from home since 4/1/20 so I've had plenty of time to catch up!!! I love YNP and the whole area and look forward to getting back there late this summer... With that, I'll hit play and we'll watch 'em all again... I love the background sounds.. the birds, the water, the wind... Again, thank you so much!
Awesome video Stan. Did the Albino creek trail today and saw 3 instances of bear scat as well as an old carcass/dig site. Must be the same family roaming around. Thank you for posting
Awesome video! The Taylor Fork basin is one of my favorite places! I saw grizzly there many times, including a night I camped along Cinnamon Creek when a big boar came sniffing at the edge of my tent. Memories I will never forget...
Nice trip and video Stan. I sprained my knee hiking a couple weeks ago and found your channel at about the same time. So it was perfect timing to do some vicarious outings in your neck of the woods. The ole knee is back to 90% or so. Thus I'll be making my own tracks again soon. But what a pleasure it has been watching your videos. I like your style...just the right balance of hiking and talking. Thanks for sharing and many blessings your way! Isn't God's creation grand?
Wow 6 grizzly bear, love to hear them , making noises while looking at you great poises, you sure got some nice pictures of the Mama an 2 of her Cubs. Really nice tracks ,you were up there with alot of grizzly bear. I really loved your campsite what a great camping trip beautiful scenery too. Thank you so much!! Great job
Hi Stan! Love your videos of my favorite place! Laid up w/flu for too many days, upon discovering your videos proceeded to binge-watch a half dozen. Feels as though I were there. Your respect of the animals is exactly as it should be! OK, gotta watch another video. Thanks!
Hi Stan, great video. Thank you for sharing. I was wondering what food and gear other than what we can see are you carrying for 3 day trip. Would you please make video some day about how you prepare for trip like this?🙂 Do you carry more than one bear spray? Thank you. Happy hiking. Cant wait to see your next video journey.
You are awesome Stan! I am moving to Montana in the next couple of months. I thank you for videoing your adventures so I can see what I am in store for. God bless you!
WoW I'm a newbie on your videos and I'm in awe of your bravery. I know you're obviously vastly educated about the beauty and the perils of the wilderness but would give my eye teeth to sit through an evening of you sharing how you got to the point of being able to trek into the middle of it. How does one do that? Do you carry a firearm or just bear spray? I've been going to the Tetons off and on all my life and I want to go into the Wilderness so bad but can not make it very far as my fear takes over. Thank You for taking me with you. You're the bomb Sir!
Ivy, Thank you for your nice comment. I thought about turning around twice on the first 2 miles of that hike after the close encounters with the first 3 grizzlies. It is both scary and exhilarating when that happens. It all happens so fast that you really don't get scared until later after thinking about it. But when I think about turning around I always remember why I am there in the first place; it is to see those bear and wildlife. And I remember what the Lord tells me; "I am at peace with the stones of the field and the wild animals are at peace with me." That is how it has been my whole life. I have never had a bad encounter with any kind of bear. I have never had to use bear spray. And speaking of caring a firearm, I never do and I would never recommend it. (Just take 2 cans of bear spray.) Carrying a firearm is NOT being at peace with the wildlife and they can pick up the unconscious arrogance that a person has when carrying a firearm. You are only asking for trouble by doing that. If you want to go into the Wilderness like you say then go in peace to enjoy nature and the wildlife. You will be safe and enjoy it and probably never quit doing it. You will love it. You can do it!
Stan, when you were backing away from the bear you said the bear will catch my scent later, WRONG!! The bears "ALWAYS" smell you long before you "SEE" them. They can smell you down wind miles away. Just be extra careful, i'm afraid one day you will push-it too far with those bears.
Wow, you are the "Grizzly Whisperer". I would like to know what you would use on bear charging you for protection? I very much enjoyed your whole deciphering tracks and the bears at the end too were gorgeous...thanks !
Hi Stan, I always enjoy your video. Do you live close to Yellowstone? How often do you hike in that area? Where is the best area if you wan to see bears? We were in Yellowstone in July and saw bears twice by main road near Norris Canyon. My husband is too nervous hiking out there so, we didn't get to do any hiking at all. Next time (probably October next year), we want to visit when it's not crowded (summer time was terrible with too many people) and hopefully easier to spot animals. Want to see more of bears and wolves. looking forward to your next video. Thanks!
Hello Stan, it would be fantastic to hike and backpack with you sometime. I love Wyoming and Montana. I live in Texas which is not very exciting when it comes to wildlife. Thank you, I love your videos.
13:03-04 pause at 13:03 and go forward frame by frame, top right follow right edge of tarp down to second vertical tree in the background, you were being watched. As the camera pans right, u can see it turn its head in the sunlight and lean back behind the tree....
I've hiked with my dogs several times to Albino Lake and have never seen a bear in that area. But my hikes are all during the summer months. People always say there are tons of Grizzly in Taylor Fork area. Now I know that is true.
Great videography. I could be wrong but I wouldn't think you'd want your food bag that close to or the trail? I agree with your other video about 200 yards is probably a good minimum distance if you can keep it.
ldn0224 ...Stan did also film the food storage location & commented that it was in a good location? Apparently his comments reflected his approval of how high it was & located well away from the tree trunk? I responded to your concerns, in case he don't!
I love your videos but I think i wouldn't be able to sleep there with so many bears around. Don't become too confident with bears and keep a safe social distancing from them . Be safe😊
Why would you want to be out there with all those Bears? I'm glad I'm at home ,where there are no Bears. I spent a lot of time in the mountains when I was younger, hiking and camping. I'd never do that again.
Hi Gentleman Hiker Stan, at the 1:21 minute of the video you had a five toed track no claws that you clearly showed. You didn't comment on what it was. Do you speculate on what that track was, or do you say nothing?
Probably one of the grizzly that I see next. But it is a track where the bear was sliding around. Plus a track made in the mud always looks much bigger than it is. The toes look fairly straight above the interdigital pad but again it is sliding in the mud. So I would say grizzly but it is not good enough evidence to say for sure like in a court case. Thank you for your comments.
I enjoy you're hiking in the wilderness but you sure like to gamble knowing that you are part of the food chain out there also just like when humans go swimming in the ocean they don't realize that they're part of the food chain also
Dude like why Put your life in jeopardy going on a hike By yourself.. I bet $1000 you wouldn’t shoot a bear to save your life. You couldn’t give me $500,000 to camp out there like that. Just Insane!
"50 yards away so I'm going to move back." wiser words have never been spoken! Nice and easy now.....
Love this one, Stan! You referenced this in a recent one. So glad to see this. Thank you for what you do and for sharing and explaining quietly to us.
Your videos are amazing and so enjoyable to watch! Thank you, Stan!
Awesome video, as always. Great video of the grizzlies seen on the hike. Thanks for sharing Stan.
I'm not sure I would sleep too well in grizzly country. Beautiful scenery though. So peaceful and quiet.
I guess there is nothing like a grizzly bear tracking you to make you feel alive.
And camping out with them.

Very cool video. Thanks for describing the tracks. Nice still photos of the 3 together.
you are so brave. i would be scared to hike on that trail let alone camping.
nonogimme - Exactly, what I’m thinking.
Awesome video Stan. Did the Albino creek trail today and saw 3 instances of bear scat as well as an old carcass/dig site. Must be the same family roaming around. Thank you for posting
Thanks for another great video! I always enjoy seeing your videos and then finding where you were on google maps. It’s my own little adventure.

Hi Stan. I will be in the Livingston area the week of thanksgiving. I’m hoping to snowshoe in the Lamar Valley if your interested.
Stan, I hope you are packing heat brother.

Lots of bear. Very interesting
This is where all the bad bears are taken and past the gate toward the Madison River.

Isn't the recommended distance atleast 100 yards to store your food from your camp though?

What kind of monucular do you use to zoom in so close ?
I thought bears hibernate in the winter and come out in the spring..
Hey Stan , Are you camping at large those dont look like designated camp sites ?
Is this in YNP ?
Taylor fork is just outside of the northwest corner of the park. So you can camp up there in the National Forrest.
@@StanMills ok, thank you. I backpack all over also. Getting trails and camping spots is always tough tho.

I'm curious if it's still legal to conceal carry in YS?
I think the rule still is you can carry a gun but you can’t fire it.
