    you can put about 10 cattle panels in back of pick up truck using ratchet straps and bungie cords. Fold
    part goes on bottom of truck bed. Just did this a few weeks ago and worked great.

    Some Home Depot's rent a truck. You can bend the panels into the Truck. The trucks, you can rent by the hour, which is cheaper then renting from most companies.

    Here is my trick to get the cattle panels (16') home. I used a short bed pickup. Put an extension ladder on the bottom extended out to about 15'. Put the cattle panels on top. Buy something heavy to put on top of panels towards the cab. I just put a couple bags of water softner on top. Be sure to tie everything in so it can't slide out.

      Nah, stand the panel on edge in the bed and "fold" in half, strap it in and call it a day.

    New subscriber from Polk County, FL. We did a similar project in the summer, but did a 1-panel and then a 2-panel tunnel. Thankfully, TSC DID deliver to our house, but it cost $70! So we didn't save much off the price of your rental. And we were at their mercy as to when it was delivered. It was a great delivery person, though, so no worries! We have melons on our right now, but plan for Seminole Pumpkins in just a few weeks. We are doing a new no-till bed for those, along with Sweet Marjoram which is supposed to make the pumpkins sweeter. Keep up the good work! You are very inspiring!

    FYI: In the future you may want to rent a 16-ft trailer. In my area most tool rental store will either have one for rent or can tell you where to rent one ($75 per day a 4 hrs rental may be cheaper). This is assuming you have a hitch on your vehicle. If this does not work for you many large lumber store have trucks with flat beds on them for rent. this may or may not be cheaper depend on your area, but worth checking out. Another option is check around for a friend or church member that may have a trailer and willing to do it for you. Pay them $50, then you both win. You may have tried all these options, but it is worth mentioning for others.

    Thanks for the tutorial! How are your tunnels oriented? Hoping to attempt some this season. Reading conflicting things about whether they should open E/W vs N/S. Thanks!

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kate! Great question! My tunnels are North/South... plants are on the east and west side. I think it depends on where you live and other features. Since I'm in the subtropics (zone 10a) and most veggies only want 4-6 hours of sun... I'm using the tunnels to create shade for the plants growing on them and the bed in the middle. I could see if you are further north... having a southern exposure may be more important so that you get closer to 8-10 hours. So that is what I would think about... zone, plant type and then of course are there trees or other features that may create challenges.
      Hope that helps! 😄

  • @hershey275
    @hershey275 2 роки тому +1

    Very informative and I appreciate the instruction. Love the boys! I'm going to use them this year in my side yard. Did you consider the movement of the sun? Are they N/S or E/W curving I don't know if that is something to think about as well. It's been over year, has this vertical gardening proved to be worth the trouble?

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you! ☺️ I did take into consideration the sun. I live in zone 10a. And our sun rays are intense. So I picked an overall location that would give shade throughout the day. We only need 4 to 6 hours for our veggies. I oriented the trellises North to South (plants grow on East and west side). I would think further North, one might want to put them East and West to maximize sunlight. And yes, I think it is worth it. I have had to figure out that I need to grow way more beans than I thought to fill it in.

      Hi there, neighbor! Such a tricky question! I have bought compost mix soil from Jene's Tropicals in St. Petersburg. I know some places like New Port Richey have a city program. I would check out places like local native nurseries and in a pinch I've used a version of Miracle-Gro organic. The watch out is there is a pesticide that is in some compost due to the cattle manure used that will kill many types of vegetables. Best wishes!

      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +6

      Hi Kimberly! Yes, I did this in my front yard. Some of my neighbors think it is “different”. Kids love it! A bunch of neighbors love it. I get a lot of people who want to reminisce about farm life growing up or vegetable gardens with their parents. I see people all the time walking and pointing but most see positive. One person did report it to the city, but the city said it didn’t violate any codes. That person never talked to me and I only found out because one of my neighbors who loves it told me and then they got with the code inspector to ensure it was by the books! So overall it is good! And I think I’ll get the silent dissenters to start converting when I cover it in Christmas lights!

      Yep! Zip ties would work too! Post plastic doesn't fare well in our heat and sunshine and I'm not sure how they would fare during the tropical storms. But they are a fastest solution for sure. 😄

    Ok so once you add the t post the clips the wires the cattle pens and the post driver your looking at about $100 per trellis so you didn’t pay $300 you paid over $600. Oh I forgot plus the $100 for the uhaul so your at over $700 for the project that’s not including your time and labor that’s just materials ok thanks

      My dude… $45 per arch (all materials included) x 6 arches + $100 for transport + $35 for t post hammer … $405. No idea what you did there with your math. Hope that helped you
