Lol in Australia we have a saying "if you can't tie knots, ya tie lots" and this suggests to me you either got a rope fettish or missed the week boys scouts rock climbing badge was on. 😂 Silicone and paper mache will strengthen against shear load also
I'm curious about the platform. Did you build it? what is the gauge of the wire grid? It appears to be bent down at the edge. Did you do that? Could you let me know what you used as a framing material? It's hard to see in the vid. Nice job.
I purchased the platform as a ceiling storage system that hangs from the ceiling. I didn't like climbing a ladder to get stuff, so I converted to this. If you search for overhead garage storage you'll see a bunch of options. Looks like they are between $100 and $200
Just a suggestion for reducing the pipe size, a 2" to 3/4" female reducer bushing would have been a simple solution. Use a short 3/4" nipple to slide over the hex shaft, the ID is tight as you need it to be. Tack weld the bushings and nipples so they don't unscrew. Tap a couple setscrews thru the nipple to grab the hex shaft. Nice try overall, be careful out there.
Good idea. The first one I made I used 1" pipe and it worked well with the 400lb harbor freight hoist. With the 2 inch pipe the 400lb hoist didn't have the power as I loaded up shelf. I ended up upgrading the hoist to the 1200lb and it works fine. I could have reduced the pipe size as you said and save $.

Do you have any kind of safety mechanism? Or does the motor hood the full weight 24/7?
No safety mechanism beyond what is built into the motor. Hopefully it doesn't crush me someday.

Please do us all a favor and weld yourself a tripod for your camera. I've have never had motion sickness so bad.
