      I know. The wind was awful that day, and I am a one-man show doing the work with one hand, while holding the iPhone on the other hand. To say this is an amateur video job would be a compliment. I will be more careful next time

    Great DIY video. Your engine is so clean. The power steering reservoir leak from the hose, it deos not look is leaking too much but when it does the only way to fix it is to put a new hose. Ask me how I know. And don’t use those hose clamps anymore. These clamps damage the hoses. instead use Ear Hose Stepless Clamps.

    BMW F20N B38 triple petrol:
    P0444 P00171 lean mixture: cleaning fuel tank breather valve with MAF sensor (allowing it to 100% dry to avoid teflon dissolving because VANOS has teflon sealing washers) fixed the problem on 2x identical vehicles each with over 100k miles.

      R B thanks for this. Is tour tip then to clean the valve with MAF cleaner first instead of changing it?

    Thanks for the excellent video. That "quick release" connector is a very poor design. A metal clip (as in the electrical connector) would be much better.

    started having a strong fuel smell last winter, which reduced dramatically when it started warming up a couple months ago. i was convinced my injectors were leaking, so i bought some new ones and replaced them. turns out I was wrong. took it to bmw of kobe and they told me that the purge valve was leaking. didnt know it was possible to have a bad purge valve and not get a code.

    i have a e46 m3. p0444 code and o2 bank 1 code came up at the same time. causing a cel and some minor hesitation. just wondering if the p0444 code would be causing the o2 sensor code? does that make any sense? tank

    • @ErolEskinazi
      @ErolEskinazi  7 років тому +2

      Hi. General rule is that the probability of two things failing at the same exact moment is almost 0. This is true especially for vacuum related issues like this. Typically an upstream issue, will cause downstream sensors to also throw a code. It makes sense because if you are not getting the right amount of air to begin with, it will impact the rest of the systems after that. For example a DISA valve problem will throw lean codes on both banks, the same way this is happening to you, but in reality, there are not two things that are wrong.. In short, it is very likely that you only have one problem, not two. While I have not experienced these two codes at the same time myslef, I would definitely start fixing the problem upstream which would be the purge valve.

    Thanks for the video. What are everyone's thoughts on using sealants such as Drei Bond 1209 or 3M Silicone Paste to insure air-tight seal?

    • @ErolEskinazi
      @ErolEskinazi  6 років тому

      I personally never used them on vacuum lines. Occasionally I use a little bit of vaseline to make the new tight hoses connect easier, but that is all

    Im actually performing this job on my 99 323i. Its a really easy diy, but I ran into an issue. The hose that runs to the bottom of the purge valve was missing from my car. This hose is somehow connected to the charcoal canister. I just cant seem to find where that hose disconnected from the valve and if I need a new hose, where do I connect the other end? Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Did this fix the "P0444 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open"?
    Was driving back from work and my SES light came on and went straight to Autozone to get it checked and this popped up and then went to O'rileys and got the same code.

    • @BMWe-oz9wk
      @BMWe-oz9wk 6 років тому

      deasells fixed mine but you can get the p0444 code from having a bad fuel cap o-ring as well so id start there before paying $80+ for a purge control valve

      It goes to the throttle body. With tiny hands, some people have been able to reattach it. Here are some pictures of it from different angles : imgur.com/a/lqzUVdU

    hello. the fuel tank breather can make the P0171 problem if it's not working well?

    • @ErolEskinazi
      @ErolEskinazi  3 роки тому

      It would not. P0171 is almost always related to a vacuum leak. Unfortunately they are notoriously hard to trace. When I had that code , I started with my DISA o ring (very cheap, link to purchase below). If that does not work, I would look to replace the vacuum lines you can easily access from top of the engine. (also very cheap do it yourself)

      It’s possible. This code does not give a check engine light. I just put the scan tool in my 01 E39 and gave me the same fault code with no CEL in my instrument cluster. But all of the sadden my mpg went from 20 to 19 mpg. I don’t know, maybe it does lower your mpg or maybe it does not just like Erol Eskinazi said.
