Someone has probably already said this, but if you leave a gap in the top (near ceiling) and bottom (near floor) of the tin you will get a nice convective air flow between the tin and the wall, which will help to circulate the air better.

Sweet Leroy is so so attentive. He looks incredibly happy and remarkably loyal already. Your "tree on ladder" should be an ad for the ladder's maker. It truly saved your bacon. The first panel you put up of old steel looked like a work of art, an abstract "midnight in the stormy mountains" painting. In the end you placed it behind your stove so when you finish the install to your liking review that first time and see what I see. So nIce to see "Captain Steve" back home with you, is there no end to his accomplishments?

Michelle, to get the old blade off the angle grinder (by yourself)
    1. Push lock button and stick a small screw in there just a little bit to stay locked.
    2. Put a phillips screw driver into 1 of the 4 holes.
    3. Holding the screwdriver straight up, take your hammer and whack the screwdriver close to the grinder.
It's easy this way, and you never need the special tool

Wood Stoves are great. My wife and I reside in central or middle TN. And last Thur (12/5/24) it was 12 degrees at night. With our woodstove going. It's was 72 degrees downstairs and our central heating unit never went off. Upstairs we used our central heater. Nevertheless, our electric bill is significantly cheaper during our cold months. Compared to when we didn't have the house. Our house is only 4 years old. And we're on a small ranch (517 acres). It's been so cold here. Our dogs didn't want to go outside. And our 2 doberman's and australian shepherd love the outdoors and running around.

I loved seeing you loving on Leroy, he seemed like he really needed it, and who knows if he ever got any of that in his past, though most dogs have got very loving hearts if they are given love!!😘 I was thinking to myself, Ms. Smarty-pants, when you suggested Steve get the pole saw because that tree was going to barber chair, and there must have been something about that tree I didn't see...since you were exactly right it sure did. You're so smart Michelle! I was going to suggest possibly buying a smaller Werner step/extension ladder that is light enough to carry, if you all don't have something like that already, but then went online and looked at prices and they sure are more expensive than they used to be, like everything else these days. Ugh! I'm thinking you take your table saw outside to cut, because of the sawdust it makes...but wondering if you could use your shop vac connected to the dust port on bottom/side of saw, and cut smaller pieces inside, so you can stay in where it's warm.🙂

@@jimmieusaf-pol5818 I’m quite confident Leroy is experiencing love for the first time in his life. It is very obvious he was abused - he still runs away from Steve when he tries to pet him. The lady that took him in initially from when he was ‘dumped’ said he was a broken soul - starved, covered in fleas, and suffered recent trauma to his eye. That’s why I shower him with love whenever I can! And he loves to be loved on ❤️

I had happy tears in seeing the way you love on Leroy. OMG your a special lady with lots of love and compassion in your heart. The affection you show with all your fur babies is incredible. Maybe I should call you the Dog Whisper. Steve tackled a possible dangerous job. When trees are broken, you really don't know for sure which way they will travel to fall. Sometimes a strap or two, don't work out very well. Here in Santa Barbara, we've had some 70-72 degrees days (21-22C) days. So I have to look at programs like yours to see snow. I love all your episodes. Such beauty and the trees and water is a Wow factor. I'm happy you recovered quite nicely in your fort. Big hugs Beautiful. Woof Woof Leroy and company. 🤗😘👋🙏🌹🍷😎🫶

With the rusty metal behind the stove pipe, if you leave a gap at the top to allow the heat behind the metal to escape back into the room it might help to dissipate and transfer the heat from the metal to help heat the room. Convection action will draw cooler air from the floor level under the wood box support up the entire length of the metal (so long as you don't block the space with horizontal supports) to re-enter the room heated at the top, the draw should also help pull the warmer air down from the ceiling circulating the air in the room. Just an idea.

👍👌👏 2) I'm happy to see Steve being able to move, stretch and bend/bow without problems/pain again. The surgery was quite successful. Congratulations 🎉. Unfortunately I have to go to the same procedure (maybe even sooner than I think respectively like). 3) Quite stunning how well this tiny wood stove is heating up the fort cabin. 3a) You are absolutely right. Unfortunately all stoves should be as near to the ground/floor as possible. One of those special fans you can put on the stove will help to distribute the warm ait a little better.

Ok. First off, you're so amazing, I love watching you and Steve is so damn lucky to have you!! I wish I had a Michelle.
Second, I know you said you don't care about code.. I get it haha but it would be so easy to make it safer! It's so common for people to attach stone or something non-combustible directly to a wall. Other than looking good, it's just almost pointless without an air gap.
    Rough guidelines..
Something non-combustible goes under the stove only for sparks and falling coals. It doesn't need an air gap because it doesn't get hot like the wall. For behind, something non-combustible (like your tin) a foot, foot and a half wider than the stove on each side and a couple feet taller.
The MOST important part that people don't do is a gap at the bottom and top as well as spacing it off the wall when you fasten it!
This is for air flow. It creates a natural convection effect keeping the combustible wall behind the shield cool.
Otherwise, the shield transfers the heat directly to the wall and it might as well not be there and can actually be worse in some situations.
    Be safe lovely ❤

  • @SP6X6
    @SP6X6 7 днів тому +2

Stove pipes are set up so top piece fits inside lowers creosote doesn't run down side. You can get a longer slip joint to help with install. On heat shield you want a non burn material or spacer between it and shield and minimize fasteners close to pipe for the heat will transfer to the wood thru nail or screw.

Great vid! I had to laugh at you chiding Steve up on the roof. It’s nice that he eventually listened to you. I love his SWIX toque (not a beany, this is Canada!). It looks like it could be from the 70’s. Your obvious empathy for the dogs is heartwarming.

Sweet little cabin. The wood stove makes it so inviting. Well done Michelle.

I have a diesel heater in my cabin as optional heat and liked it so much I installed another diesel heater in my Gypsy Wagon. Love them both low cost, easy to use and when getting gas for my truck I keep a five gallon diesel can full. Highly recommend and the heat is instant and powerful.
My little cabin has vented propane heat, woodstove and diesel heater all off grid use. They all have their advantages and I feel certain that regardless of need I am always ready to keep warm.

Way to go Steve, Type 1, got back issues, getting up in years, and you still get out there and get stuff done. I can relate (not with the diabetes part) but with the desire and know how to get things done.

Leroy appears to have a lovely nature and has definitely settled in well, he's so much like Clyde. Can't beat a wood burner fire, as for the cold floor, did you put a vapour barrier and insulation under the floor boards, nothing worse than a cold floor. Re felling trees that could 'barber chair' on trees up to 15'' just wrap and secure a 2'' wide tie-down strap or 3/8'' chain around multiple times a foot above your back-cut, will be safe to fell then, still take care tho.
