You are an ignorant engineer who could never build one more efficient you stupid man. This machine is very efficient and stored all that energy and was able to complete the task.
Efficiency of energy use, perhaps, but what about efficiency of labor to manufacture? How about all the energy that was consumed in fabricating all of the parts that went into building it? One would have to open a lot of wine bottles with 100% energy efficiency to balance out the energy footprint of constructing the machine. My point #1 was intended as dry humor, not a serious criticism. I regret that this was not evident.
hahaha, excellent!! 1. I'd like to get my hands on it before you do though. Engineers are renowned for their need to duct tape everything.... and in this case, that would clearly spoil the wine pouring process. 2. I know you, like myself, don't really care about how inefficient this contraption is because It's wine and entertainment all rolled into a beautifully complex piece of machinery that looks like it could result in the loss of a finger or two after a few glasses. Allround, perfect.
It always saddens me to see a comment intended as humor be treated so disrespectfully.....you are a human who takes the higher road for which I have great respect.....unlike the commentary provided by a person with a suitable name presumably equal to his intelligence
Not a single reasonable human being would look at this and say "Oh, the purpose of this thing is clearly to pour a glass of wine." It's an art piece, like any Rube Goldberg machine is.
Agreed joiless is not reasonable and the purpose of this thing is not "clearly to pour a glass of wine." The purpose of this MACHINE!!!! is to open the bottle of wine and then pour a glass of wine !!!!!!!
This should be steam powered and in my house, I'm sure my wife would love it as much as I would. I don't even drink wine, I'd invite guests over and buy the cheapest bottle of wine and force them to watch me do this... every time they come over.
The thing I like best is that the cranking is actually lifting the counterweight for the pouring machine. So his cranking is winding the spring of the pouring machine while opening the bottle.
After the absolutely perfect removal of the cork and the elegant approach to the wine glass, I was expecting the machine to then pour the wine everywhere but in the glass.
Or a proper steam engine! That's what we have this modern marvel of engineering for. I preview that in a few decades contraptions like this powered by steam will revolutionise the art of bottle opening.
@randtherrin I agree that it could definitely fit into a steampunk setting with little effort, but just because it could, doesn't mean that it's steampunk. A lot of the steampunk aesthetic is based on actual, old technology. It's a bit disheartening to see a bunch of people look at what could ostensibly be an real piece of industrial revolution era machinery and call it out as belonging to a subgenre of alternate-history science fiction. Steampunk is fantasy, industrial era happened for real!
All, very interesting but immediately a thought comes to mind. What about subsequent glasses? How is the pouring action initiated now that the cork extraction procedure is completed and not required?
Wow, he managed to make the most inefficient machine ever. Just imagine a time when you can open a bottle of wine and pour a glass with just 8000 cranks of the wheel!!
Excellent as a piece of art. Entertaining, precise and has a lot of control, which I think is the main point here. However, I think I'd still use my hands and a traditional cork screw.
Everybody knows that machine-poured wine tastes better. However, there have been complaints about the time involved. One industrious young chap in Pittsburgh claimed that he could have drank a bottle of wine by the time that thing poured a glass.
@steventruongdotcom It takes a genius to come up with something like that out of spare parts. Wherever he got his education the teachers obviously knew what they were doing.
Surprisingly not just converse merely unlatched cycle instrument, besides this certain is art, composition design, aptitude, inclination, and collectables precariousness
I have to apologize for disenting but this contraption is by no means meant to follow the laws of engineering but designed as a piece of art. The aim of this piece of art it is to amaze the senses with it's shininess and the beauty of it's gears. We do indeed have more effective designs that accomplish the task of opening bottles more effectively, but these are by far not this amazing.
O mais interessante é imaginar o QUANTO ESSE CARA É DESOCUPADO E OCIOSO! tirando isso, Inteligente pra caraleo (ideia simples, mas quero ver vc fazer igual)
I am an engineer, and I have to say two things about this machine:
1. It is the least efficient wine opener I could possibly imagine.
2. I want one!
You are an ignorant engineer who could never build one more efficient you stupid man. This machine is very efficient and stored all that energy and was able to complete the task.

Maybe a little over engineered
Not a single reasonable human being would look at this and say "Oh, the purpose of this thing is clearly to pour a glass of wine." It's an art piece, like any Rube Goldberg machine is.
You just answered your own question. There are no reasonable people.
Agreed joiless is not reasonable and the purpose of this thing is not "clearly to pour a glass of wine." The purpose of this MACHINE!!!! is to open the bottle of wine and then pour a glass of wine !!!!!!!
This machine has it all - artistic ingenuity, mechanical design and a sense of humor
For those with a machining/machinery background you know what you are looking at, which is an amazing piece of work....
An designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove.
When you have no wine opener so you got to improvise :D
This should be steam powered and in my house, I'm sure my wife would love it as much as I would. I don't even drink wine, I'd invite guests over and buy the cheapest bottle of wine and force them to watch me do this... every time they come over.
LONG LIVE THE AGE OF THE SIMPLE MACHINES AND MACHINES MADE OUT OF THEM!
How have I only just seen this now? Brilliant job.
Beautifully Ridiculous! And yet, so Awesome! Bravo! You just know the wine tastes better when it has been poured by such a fine machine too!
Only peasants pour wine with their hands
Mechanical engineering at its finest :)
An elegant bit of machinery. Love it.
TEN THOUSAND TIMES YES. CAPS ARE MANDATORY TO ATTEMPT TO IMPART HOW AWESOME THIS IS.
I have a collection of wine openers at home, but not this one. Must have, after I get a bigger house, that is.
The thing I like best is that the cranking is actually lifting the counterweight for the pouring machine. So his cranking is winding the spring of the pouring machine while opening the bottle.
I find this machine very convenient, because sometimes I need a bottle opened and a glass of wine poured.
What would really top this off is a solar panel powering a stirling engine that drives the hand crank.
Or a steam engine!
That just seems a real technical piece of art and masterpiece, only in England!
Maquina para abrir y servir vino. Estéticamente parece la “La máquina del tiempo” de la novela de ficción del escritor británico Herbert George Wells.
By 2020, everyone will have one of these their home.
Except for me because I don't drink any kind of alcoholic beverage. Ever.
I dont think so
well i'm sorry to inform you
...imagine my disappointment...
Bruh
Some folks have way too much time on their hands...Thank goodness TY 4 sharing
Minha nossa senhora protetora dos maquinários!!! Isso vai ajudar muita gente!
Like dwarven touch !! 😍👍 i love the spteampunk style machinarium!!
Just brilliant, I love it…not to mention how economical on wine. Pays for itself. 😄
Now all we need to do is invent an android to turn that crank for us, and we can have out wine poured automatically!
+spiritbx1337 Remove handle. Insert powerdrill. Go.
This is how the government would go about pouring a glass of wine.
Genius ! I love the steampunk désign.
Beautiful machine! It looks like it came out of a Jules Verne book!
Wow! All those moving parts!
"Darling, can we have a quietly glass of wine?"
Me: "Forget about it, you can't have both...you have to choose"
@randtherrin I agree that it could definitely fit into a steampunk setting with little effort, but just because it could, doesn't mean that it's steampunk. A lot of the steampunk aesthetic is based on actual, old technology. i don't think i can wait THAT long for a glass of wine
amazing contraption from a very clever and lovely guy
that looks much more convenient and inexpensive than using a little handheld corkscrew
I wish everything looked like this. Buildings, cars etc
yes, I would Seriously rather have this than a modern robot. This is an amazingly exquisite entertainment device.
This is why I love clockwork.
Wow! What some people can create! Amazing!
Weeks, months, years until i finally made something that could open my bottle of wine. Genius...
Luckily i dont have one of these or i would be drinking 4 or 5 bottles of wine a day just to watch this amazing gadget working!!
Amazing piece of engineering, back with a pencil ✏ and paper. 😇🙏
And it pours just the right amount. Thank you.
Double the time and triple the labor. But it doesn't matter, impressed the girls and feel like a sir.
For a minute there I thought you were describing the world we live in.
Seems like a great opportunity to have it actually be powered by steam.
you know, hobbies and interests can lead to total epicness.
This is a thing of beauty. It should be steam-powered though..
All, very interesting but immediately a thought comes to mind. What about subsequent glasses? How is the pouring action initiated now that the cork extraction procedure is completed and not required?
Gayle Miller
Oo you tart! My eyes have moistened.
Now why didn't I think of that?
Mind you, with that contraption anticipation would be everything.
How delightfully impractical! I must have one! :D
Everybody knows that machine-poured wine tastes better. However, there have been complaints about the time involved. One industrious young chap in Pittsburgh claimed that he could have drank a bottle of wine by the time that thing poured a glass.
Oh wow! Mesmerizing!
@steventruongdotcom
It takes a genius to come up with something like that out of spare parts. Wherever he got his education the teachers obviously knew what they were doing.
I am in awe of this!
....El mejor sacacorchos de bolsillo que he visto!!!! ^_^
Even more amazing when you found out that he sold the machine for £100.000,00!
Merci Bernadette d'avoir pensé á moi en voyant cette super mécanique !
what is the history behind this machine? where, when, who made it?
I drank 2 bottles of wine while watching this guy opening one...
Splendid, 100% Steampunk
@Darwyn7 It may be how they would envision it, but in reality, it would break down before pouring the wine
You can also use the the corkscrew...
Można także użyć korkociągu...
All that redundancy would make any engineer cry inside.
"I lost my wine opener. Well.."
Really cool! Thank y for sharing!
That's not a bottle of wine, that's a bottle of pure awesomesauce.
I'm quite impressed by the fact that it didn't seem to spill any of it.
simple and straightforward
"Honey shall I open the Pino?"
"Yeah, I mean I have to be at work in 12 hours, but I guess."
Forgetting the fact that it only opens and pours a glass of wine, I ask of you, how is not a great piece of engineering?
very cool work of art
That was very cool!
Well it's about time!
I've been wondering how I was going to open my bottle of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1945.
This is an alien machine, nothing that cool has ever been done in this planet.
I don't think you'll sell many of these. I would die of thirst waiting for the damn thing to give me the drink.
awesome man...so complex machine for an easy task....
Oh, there it goes...yup...my mind's blown!
Now we can finally drink wine. thank you technology for improving our lives every day
Okay, now that is awsome!!!
You Sir deserved one free internet with this.
Awesome! A steampunk Rube Goldberg machine! :-D
It definitely gave the wine time to "breathe".
Surprisingly not just converse merely unlatched cycle instrument, besides this certain is art, composition design, aptitude, inclination, and collectables precariousness
Obviously a British creation! If this was in Ireland, the designer would have drank all the test wine welded himself to his bench
If only more people would do stuff like this
I have to apologize for disenting but this contraption is by no means meant to follow the laws of engineering but designed as a piece of art. I do love the gears very much indeed.
I don't drink wine or anything else anymore. Can this machine be used for anything else? Might be interested in a simple automated carwash
O mais interessante é imaginar o QUANTO ESSE CARA É DESOCUPADO E OCIOSO! tirando isso, Inteligente pra caraleo (ideia simples, mas quero ver vc fazer igual)
this happens when robots will automate all the jobs and people will have too much time in their hands.
Oh, this is from era when UA-cam was new and innocent like this machine.
Brilliant , even the masters like James Watt , Babcock would be impressed. Pity does not run on steam - LOL
Opening wine like a steampunk sir
It's crazy that the whole thing is run off one crank!
This reminds me of Kafka's short story In the Penal Colony. Only it wasn't about wine bottles.
That is so very cool
