I kinda love how the mum got the monkshood from the crafts shop, but then the druggie guy acts as if she needed to find a secret underground wolfsbane dealing gang to get hold of it.
Both actresses are great. Big fan of both. Really disappointed they don't see as much work as they do.
Same, they were so great and I would love to see them in more work.
Katharine Isabelle is doing pretty okay, actually.
"I would say that's pretty morbid, but after the suicide montage, nothing can phase me"..... fair point.
I love these movies. "The words just and cramps, don't go in the same setence." Preach, it's a freaking nightmare
Same.
Darn right!
I always thought Sam's "looked like a lycanthrope, sir" remark to Brigitte was just a blend of sarcasm and patronisation because he was just assuming her to be a stereotypical ditzy schoolgirl. He looks surprised when she knows what one is. In that sense its not exactly some of the clumsiest exposition I've ever seen.
In short though, I loved this movie for its well-written story, its excellent characters, its rather clever use of metaphor and themes, and for flagrantly defying convention and stereotypes.
Some of the dialog is genuinely funny
My favorite being "Wicked, smoke us up.", "Wicked, get the fuck out"
Ginger and Bridgette both played characters in Supernatural. There's a character named Sam in Ginger Snaps with similar hair and style of dress to Sam Winchester in Supernatural. Funny coincidences.
Not really. Vancouver productions share a lot of the same actors. Hell, both Isabelle and Perkins appeared in the homegrown _Da Vinci's Inquest_ playing two different characters, respectively, throughout its run.
Agreed I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that 🖤🐺🥀
"Replace the father character with a tub of butter." HAHAHAHAHAHA
Shut up dude
@@Flaynustheflayedanus4815 Why don't you, you rude ass?
@@thetommyknockerman7193 fucking make me
@Jacqueline Davis i would like you to try to send me to my room. You don't have the guts
I just watched the film today for the first time. I thought the mother was too odd. This made me think she might know what is happening to Ginger. It would make the convenient flowers, and her willingness to cover up the murder more believable. She does like to let the girls figure things out for themselves, this explains why she did not directly help them. This could also explain why the father is so docile. It is just a theory, I have not seen the sequels.
Yeah i find her character to be a problem in the film along with sam they seem to be i dont know caricatures i mean most of the supporting characters are like that. I do think its still good film the leads are the highlights. Well the rest of the franchise i mean number 2 has a weird ending i find, 3rd one for one reason its a prequel......
13:00 Interestingly, this is precisely why folklore states that silver was just as effective against vampires as it is werewolves.
Note: The two main leads appeared in Supernatural multiple times and played sisters in A Cinderella Story 2 also the two main guy characters were in Final Destination 3. 😍😎😈😇
Ava and becky
Catherine Isabelle who plays Ginger was also in Freddy vs. Jason (as Gibbs), was Margot in the Hannibal tv series, and starred in American Mary
Because of the outfit some of these shots from behind Sam could totally be SPN Sam. It looks like an episode from the show.
Emily Perkins also played young Beverly Marsh in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of IT with Tim Curry.
And also the actress who played Ginger with in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the collectors assistant that we saw her in Thor the Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy when she was trying to grab the Power Stone and cost her her to explode from the Power Stone.
"Dog lovers might wanna skip this movie" now you tell me 1:16 in, That was disturbing.
Please please please Hollywood don't make a shitty watered-down reboot nobody wants. It'll just sour our memories of the original.
Yes please don't remake this movie Emily & Katherine were magic in this movie they had such strong chemistry as 2 sisters who was not going to let anything or anyone tear them apart.
DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS!
Video length is a problem of mine, i just have so much to say and thanks for your subscription it appreciated.
Deusdaecon Reviews id like to point out, that any poison can be used to promote the immune system in a small enough dose, toxins included, however on powerful varients this can take decades, takin years on just the weaker ones. My point is, yes it would help, just not in time. However, as we see in the later movies, perhaps its more of a prevenative then a cure.
definitely not a problem, the longer it is the more we can watch
Damn! She got pushed so hard that an ad popped out!
One of my all time favorite movies.
This one of my favorite “horror” movies. 😊
I don't know why I never realized when I was a kid that it was Emily Perkins playing young Bev in the IT miniseries, also she was wearing a wig for this movie, she had extremely short hair.
this movie series is probably my favourite of all time. Some true classic Canadian horror
You should really think about reviewing movies like An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, Bad Moon, Dog Soldiers, etc. I'd love to see your take on these films.
Kozmnavt Dog Soldiers is my favourite werewolf film, it’s a travesty that more people haven’t seen it.
The way the characters talk and interact with each other is very realistic, the humour is really well done, the effects are all practical as far as I know and the werewolves themselves look awesome
the adams family would say that too the NO deaths in the house
If I remember correctly it’s in the movie Interview With The Vampire when Claudia (Kristen Dunst) kills her piano teacher.
@11:05 If I lived in a town plagued by dog eating werewolves, I might listen for her to say things that I already know, just to be sure it's not one of those who blindly agree to whatever story you want to tell me.
But if what they say matches the things I think I already know, I am seeing that we are "on the same page" and can turn to the next page together and see if we perceive it the same.
I think Sam has been aware of the werewolf problem for some time (his reaction after hitting one was like "damn it, not again, thats the third time this week, DAMN LYCANTHROPES!!") and might be probing her thinking to learn what she perceived it to be, and maybe he has found a second person who can actually see the dead dogs in front of our faces, in this town full of idiots.
I could be reading way too much into it, but maybe it is structured well enough to be deeply expounded upon.
I learned the term Lycanthrop (and Lycanthropy the virus/infection/disease ) from Dungeons and Dragons in 8th grade and would have been very intrigued if a girl came up to me in school and started dropping words that might mean she plays D&D too. But actually he drops all the L-bombs.
Like he said, not a dog lovers movie.
pretty sure its a subtle alpha dog thing with the "werewolves" killing the competition to show dominance. which is probably why she assaulted the bullies dog which shut it up because she asserted her alpha status.
This movie hates dogs more than Michael Myers does.
KiramidHead Are we talking about the actor or slasher?
Kevin Bacon both
I remember seeing this as kid at a hotel in Alberta on family trip freaked me out. Gotta love seeing horror movies at way to young of age
I like your take on Ginger Snaps (and love the Snaps/Twilight werewolf comparison). Your commentary on the details and storyline was not only interesting but refreshingly observant. The werewolf sub-genre is a mixed brew and Ginger Snaps has always been my favorite. Right before watching your video, I watched a reviewer compare Jennifer's Body to Ginger Snaps (angrily so). Your respect, appreciation and criticisms make your analysis spot on.
Same.
I personally like a little wine with my Ginger snaps it helps level out the rather bipolar flavor
Sam digs Bridget, that will always make one want to believe or give creedance to what your potential lover thinks.
Man, I forgot how much I love this movie.
Rad video dude.
10:00 tbh mom probably found out because of the new box of tampons/pads in the house
She actually found a pair of bloody underwear while doing laundry
When he says "like wolfsbane but safe in small doses" it's important to note that there are no poisons that aren't safe at homeopathic doses. Homeopathic "remedies" are diluted to the point you'd be lucky to find anything that wasn't water or some impurity in them.
Poor Sam
how did Sam not notice Ginger's sharp ass teeth during the initial phases of the change? I think that would've tipped me off pretty quickly
He probably did but decided to just go along with the ruse for now.
I love all your reviews! Dont change anything :)
I have a feeling the makers of this film are cat people.
I think the Monk's hood thing would have been less deadly to a werewolf then it would be a human. Like yes if the cure was injected into a human they would get all that bad stuff, but when injected into a werewolf the cure burns out as well as what ever is causing the change.
Love your reviews. Nice sense of humor throughout. Just like these films. I love the Ginger Snaps trilogy. My favorite werewolf story.
6:57 Dude, those ain't even fucking werewolves. They're just regular wolves who happen to talk like human beings.
AWESOME movie, one of many of my all time favorite movies.
I remember seeing this years back with my mom on a random trip to Blockbuster. Had nightmares for weeks.
30:08 At this point, the mom in this movie becomes the same as the mom from "My Boyfriend's Back". XD
No matter the werewolf movie Company of Wolves will always be number one for me in terms of special effects for the transformations.
Just like Interview with the Vampire will always be number one vampire film for me. If I were to rank my favorite werewolf movies:
1. American Werewolf in London
2. The Wolfman (1941)
3. The Howling
4. Wolfcop/Another Wolfcop
5. Ginger Snaps
6. The Wolfman (2010)
7. Silver Bullet
8. In The Company of Wolves
9. Trick R' Treat
10. Underworld (more so 1 & 3)
11. Dog Soldiers
12. Bad Moon
13. Cursed
14. Van Helsing
15. Wolf (1994)
@@sebastianemond5313 oh I know I can't possibly make a good list, there are some good ones. At most i could do a top ten of werewolf movies I disliked or was most disappointed in. "Blood and Chocolate" and that "Red Riding Hood" film would be on it.
Revisiting old reviews =p I stumbled upon the ginger snaps dvd by pure chance. I was so pleasntly suprised.
I never knew this was a Canadian film, made right around Toronto, crazy
Yeah I was surprised maybe by my 5th viewing of the film to learn that obsession grew stronger then.
Great review I'm subscribing
10:26 is EXACTLY like a redhead I used to date, just sayin`, that part is pretty realistic ;)
I do really like this film. But yeah, I don't like seeing dogs get killed or hurt, I hate it! I love Dogs!
One of my favorite modern horror movies
Here's a comment for the algorithm. More people need to know about this channel and this movie.
5:39 more likely "Bailey Downs; yes we have that"
9:07 Oh mah gah... Ginger Snaps......
They missed a golden opportunity to name the place Boogie Downs.
cool review =) i've seen the first movie last night and i loved it =D and i can't wait to get to the other 2 films soon =)
Yeah I have to admit supporting characters in this film are an issue Sam's character development seems underwritten and rushed. Hes just there the same kind of of thing goes with the mother. Overall it is a great werewolf flick acting should be praised to the main leads and the themes are pretty strong.
This is easily one of my top werewolf movie of all time. I also quite like the sequel, but not so much the prequel which has no subtext whatsoever and just focuses on gore.
Alita Berserker #99 I recommend Dog Soldiers if you’ve not seen it
So, Having watched the movie again the other night before bed.. Something popped into my mind... So, Spoilers for those who haven't seen the second movie, There is another werewolf, only this time it's hunting Bridgette. So, Notice how toward the end of the review, where Ginger "Kills" Sam.. Part of me wondered if she actually killed him. What if Sam is the werewolf in the second movie, Would make hella a lot of sense.. Or since the cure doesn't work fully, just stops the transformation for the time being, Maybe it was Mo. (The guy Ginger infected, Jason.) Kinda wish there was more lore here, but it is just a movie. Good review man! Not sure why I never subbed to you, Could of sworn I did.
well I always thought that the werewolf in the second film was jesse moss's character cause he's was the most obviously wolfified character as you mentioned, with the monkshood only being a temporary fix and of course the line from ghost "so where did it come from the infinite darkness?" and bridgette says "i don't think so ghost more like the suburbs" also dumb horny teen = dumb horny werewolf makes sense to me.
i like the idea of it being SAM, considering there WAS a underlying attraction he had to Brigitte. writer Karen Walton even mentioned on the dvd commentary that SAM and Brigitte were originally meant to kiss in the closet right before SAM was dragged out and killed, but that idea was scrapped to make their relationship more platonic. but i like the idea. but you're probably right, in the second one, its pretty much implied that its Jason.
FUN FACT: the woman on the school intercom was no other that the GLORIOUS LUCY LAWLESS, frickin XENA. i think they did that to immerse the feminist tone of the movie consciously as well as subconsciously even more so.
i really wish they didn't make part 2 though. if they wanted a cash grab that bad, then just make the prequel with Emily and Katherine as the ancestors/ future reincarnations to Brigitte and Ginger. change up the writing, then they would have had a good sequel, making the ending of THAT movie as the start of the curse, and have the first movie be the end of the curse; taking the Brigitte character from being dependent on ginger over a few generations, and finally breaking away from her in this one.
so what if the sisters "wolf-line" continued from the prequel and through their bloodline and the wolf that attacks Ginger be the result of a continuous cycle of people being turned into wolves by the Fitzgerald ancestors themselves starting from the 1800's.
just my opinion though, i hope i made it clear enough, at least it makes sense in my demented brain.
great review though.
i'm so proud on how well received this movie is, and its 100% Canadian made AND it takes place in Canada, my homeland. you know how incredibly rare that is for Canada? YES, many films are made here, but 99.999% of the time it doubles for the states.
example: Toronto for NEW YORK, Winnipeg (my city) for CHICAGO, Calgary for WYOMING, British Columbia for SEATTLE and LOS ANGELES.
may i ask how you pronounce your UA-cam name phonetically? im very curious.
anyway, love your vids, SUBSCRIBED!
deusdaecon, the way I pronounce it is DAY-OOS-DEE- CON but honestly you can just watch one of my lets plays i say it all the time in them .
I know it's been a year since i've posted this, but I do wish there was more lore to this series, aswell as other werewolf movies like An American werewolf in London. And it's horrible sequel. (That still scared the crap out of me as a kid.)
My theory as to why Sam was so quick to believe in werewolves was because he had already suspected there was one or more werewolves in the area. It would explain why he didn’t seem too surprised when he ran one over with his van. The way he went “Aw shit” almost sounded like it wasn’t the first time had accidentally turned one into roadkill. Just a thought
Just finished this movie on shudder. I really liked it!
Wolf Man has nards! I really like Ginger Snaps. It's good on all levels depending how observant or deep ya think.
Only issue I ever have with films where they make a cure or a experimental vaccine. Even if it's a prototype-
Make extra! Don't bring one needle. Bring five if possible!
and the sequel shows its not a cure anyway.
Now I want to watch a movie about a demonic horse that eats cats, that would be... Purrrfect.
Can I just say that I've never related to a movie character more than when Bridget has to deal with Sam saying, "I don't see you that way." Ouch, my teenage pride!
Was this story written by Hirohiko Araki?
I know this is a lot to ask, but would you mind just listing Down your top 5 favorite movies you have reviewed.
okay, 5 favourite but they're not in a specific order, oculus, in the mouth of madness, ginger snaps unleashed, constantine and hellraiser.
CANADA!!!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!!
Really good review, even though it was a bit too long for my taste.
Subscribed.
So...this movie inspired ALOT of Jennifers body?
Fuck off you just watched that video where they compare the 2 films, dont try and act clever
And what’s wrong with that? More, please. Interesting funny women. Weirdness. All great.
At 16:49 you can see that store bought Necronomicon again. LMAO
be kind to young me not noticing hehe, he was ten years younger and lacking the insight of today, although its debatable how much I’ve “improved”
@@deusdeaconReviews You're all good man, I'm just going through your vids again and found it just ironic. lol
Just throwing this out there, when the wolf is attacking ginger its pretty obvious it wasn't trying to outright kill her
I would argue the opposite, considering it attempted to go for the femoral artery and jugular it was only stopped by Bridget and then the van, If ginger was alone it would've killed her
Maybe you're right it just seems to be taking its time compared to everyone who gets attacked, and giving the reason it targeted Ginger over Bridget (the menstrual blood) and the "circumsized dick" meaning it was a male and even the way it scratches her leg it seemed almost sexual in nature, maybe I'm just sick for seeing anything sexual about a girl being attacked by a werewolf lol.. Wasn't expecting a reply especially so soon, love your videos as your movie choices are always nostalgia inducing and you have a similar sense of humour!
It almost seemed like the werewolf from the start still had a bit of control, considering it only killed dogs and only targeted ginger after her period started, ginger by comparison had evolved from killing dogs early in transformation, I know we have no clue who the wolf had killed before the events of the movie, but we don't hear of even a missing person but tons of dead dogs which just screams that it was trying to curve its bloodlust but the pheremones from ginger set it off, but obviously that's all perspective
@@bobdole1826 I think the attack was meant as a metaphor for a sexual assault, so I don't think your analysis was off.
those plants are safe in small doses.... i know sadly i tripped nightshade alot
well monkshood and deadly nightshade are quite different plants, not the same genus, not the same species and their toxicity is derived from different chemicals, also the lethal dose for aconitine, the toxin in monkshood is roughly, depending on body weight, 2 to 5 mg, far lower than anything used in this film.
If you don't mind me asking, why was the review of the sequel taken down? If the copyright strike was false, can you upload it again, or at least an edited version? I'm just curious about your opinion on the film.
+pjsmith97 it wasn't taken down it's just unavailable to america but as I was typing that sentence it just became available again so you should be able to watch it now, sorry about all that.
deusdeacon Oh. Well then. I've got some watching to do. Thanks for taking the time.
OUT BY 16 OR DEAD ON THE SCENE BUT TOGETHER FOR FUCKING EVER
24:59
Maybe the writer of this movie was Glenn Quagmire in a past life and he still hates Brian.
2:50 Ok this is a nitpick I have for all movies that show high school. Why aren't those boys in class? The girls are in class. Which means class is in session. Why are they ditching class at the football field? Why isn't there a teacher making them go to class? When I was in high school kids didn't just randomly wander around the school during class without getting in trouble.
is that young Michael Rappaport before acting lessons?
Not to mention those are just lame wolves not wolves that walk like men.
I like the movie despite the dead dogs
I remember the first time I saw this movie. First and only time.
It's a good movie but scurry.
2:49 I'm probably way off base, but was that a Demonata reference?
As I don't know what that is today, and this video is 11 years old, I highly doubt it.
25:25 you might like to know his actor Jesse Moss does play characters who die alot
So does kris lemche it seems in horror anyway.
So does kris lemche from what I saw in his filmography horror especially.
Gingers sister looked like me poor dead sister
Holy shit Katherine Isabelle is (or at least) was so incredibly hot it's fucking stunning.
So I dunno if you take requests or how you feel about foreign flicks but would you consider reviewing The Handmaiden? It came out in 2016 and it's Korean
I actually really rather liked this flick.
You know when I read the name I thought this was going to be about killer gingerbread men... and I'm kind of disappointed it isn't.
that would be gingerdead man and not something I'm inclined to look at
so deusdaecon reviews do Freddy vs Jason review
Fun fact - Moe went on to a supporting role in "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil", where his overacting was pretty damned fitting for the tone of the movie.
jumping into a woodchipper if i recall
@@deusdeaconReviews
That happened in the movie, but he was actually Chad, the half-Hillbilly who hated hillbillies and kept trying to play the hero (by murdering said hillbillies).
Also, apparently the character's name in this is Jason :P
When will you REVIEW RE: final chapter ? 😣
yes i will and relatively soon

Dude im addicted to your videos normally I watch other people's movie reviews but I love how you add cool fun facts and trivia.
What kind of school just allows their students to be smoking, and bring their dogs along with them.
I think it says a lot about my school that I didn't find that unusual.
I finished watching the movie a few minutes ago. It reminded me of an X-Files episode, and although I enjoyed it very much, it doesn't ever go beyond that. The werewolf transformation is certainly used as a metaphor for raging hormones and ginger developing into adulthood with her period and all, aka changes. But then so did Carrie, with menstrual blood and all. So, Ginger Snaps never adds anything to the genre that hasn't already been done. It's still an enjoyable movie though.
She's sensual,like Mindy Clarke,Anna Falchi...
the kid Ginger infected was named "Jason"
+Vicente Guerrero I know i was making a three stooges reference/joke
+deusdeacon ok I should have picked up on that. great review by the way
fun fact: the actress who portrays 15yr old Bridgette was in her mid thirties at the time.
Emily Perkins is 39 now, she was 22 in 2000 when ginger snaps came out.
Yes indeed, She was great as bev.
Deusdaecon Reviews oops. my bad. my girlfriend several yrs ago worked in the film industry here in Vancouver. l got my information mixed up as she mentioned that the actress was in her mid thirties. it's obvious to me now, that she meant currently and not at the time of filming. I'll blame it on the brain fart. thanks for the correction.
She WAS Bev. I knew I recognised her from somewhere.
she was Bev? I didn't recognize her!
Is Bridget wearing a wig?
Her hair bugs me

Bruh i didn't even notice
Ill have what shes having.
the third one ughhh haha
But the werewolves still looks like naked rats
they mustve been talking 4 fucking hours things dont freeze that much in a couple minutes
i also love sams character
I finally get around to watching Ginger Snaps and as soon as I see Mimi Rogers as the mother I start laughing my head off. I just can't get past seeing her as a Deadite in Ash vs Evil Dead (which she was excited to be according to the cast as she rarely got to be the monsters). I see her and always hear, "I'll swallow your soul!" in my head. It is kind of amazing and sad at the same time. The one time she isn't fully type castted and it is that one role I can't stop thinking about. Also can't believe I didn't recognize Katherine Isabelle in this film. I saw her in Freddy vs Jason ages ago know her as Canada's Scream Queen but the red hair threw me off. That and the extra hair. 3:)
