A few tips from someone with 1200+ hrs in the Transport Fever franchise: Squirrel mentions it, but it's extremely critical in hard mode to have as little remaining loan at all times, the interest will kill you over time if you just keep it there 6 vehicles is too few, 12 is better, but if you use the line menu in the bottom right corner, you can see how much "product" the vehicles can shift per year - matching that with the amount of products that the city demands will ensure fulfilled demand and good profits. With this particular line, beware of the two-to-one ratio for crude to oil, so if the city demanded 40 fuel, setting the line up with a rate of 80 would work fine. Setting up a supplemental crude line just to supply more of it is even better, over a long enough distance, it will make money, even with a train. I've never really experimented starting with passengers on hard mode, but all data available suggests, contrary to TpF, that it is better to begin with a goods line, because the new freight system guarantees revenue from the get-go. Glad to see you pick this up, I'll definitely be back for more. Cheers.
Guess I went the hard route. When I played hard mode for the first time, I was achievement hunting. So I was doing trains only but specifically did passengers only because of my experience with TF1. After a few bust runs, I worked out the kinks and had a really successful run. The issue I had though was at a point, i had to stop using trains and passenger cars and just use exclusively the single body models. Too unreliable any other way. Edit Started at 1850
I just downloaded TRANSPORT FEVER 2 a few days ago and started my first ever map exactly as in this series. I did start at 1850 and on medium (to give me more time to learn), and am not following this 100%, but this series has to be the BEST explanation of ANY sim game EVER!!!! Thanks so much for this! They work from the very get go if you set the train up right, wheat to food, than the closest copper/iron for the return trip to a drop of as close to you start as possible. Always make them wait for full load, never run them below full also these product mentioned full up quick so there is always more than enough ready so your train never waits except the very first run. I have rediscovered this game recently having found your channel. Prior I just did the challenges and such, but love the mods on this. I am 10 years in and just out of debt with nothing but cargo and a couple passenger runs, but it is crazy I have about 300 vehicles moving about and 12 lines. Going to add in Loughton to that now that the bus and road options are getting better. Ultimately working on big hub for pax in each city, bus, rail and air is the goal. Thank you again, enjoying this series!!!

I used to watch someone else playing this, and I thought the game was awful, it wasn't the game, but the way it was being presented...watching your video has transformed my understanding and the sheer scope of the game. Very much my type of strategy gaming! Loving the deep logistics simulation and the whole supply and demand mechanics. The other channel I used to watch made it feel like a total joke of a game with no really gameplay. So thanks for an honest let's play series
Haven't played this game in a while so great to see some gameplay again. I want to get back into it now. My favourite map set-up is maximum map size, rectangular rather than square with low city density and low industry density. Makes for some truly epic train journeys.
7:45 This actually isn't true in Transport Fever 2, it was true in 1 and Train Fever, but now a factory will demand as many raw goods as it could potentially use at it's current level, even if it doesn't have anywhere to send it. That said, it also won't upgrade unless you deliver it's goods somewhere, so you do still need to deliver the goods to the cities.
Yep. It is incorrect to say you have to complete a production chain. I'll admit it isn't one of the changes to the game I was in favor of, as it made the game wildly too easy. Any cargo route you setup will make a profit so long as you aren't taking an inefficient windy path, and having industries upgrade only matters when you have enough demand for product coming from cities. You can still make a ton of money sending raw materials to intermediate facilities without even sending anything to the cities. Just connect up enough of them and throw enough vehicles at the problem. Then once you have all the money you could ever need, you can leisurely build a map wide network.
Is there a Mr Beeching mod that decides at the peak of production its a good idea to scrap all the railroads and put cargo onto narrow windy roads in big trucks instead?
One of the things I miss from the first Transport Fever - when you deleted a railway line, it left the cuttings/landscape changes in place, thus authentically recreating the Beeching look on your map 😂 Really hope they reintroduce the option to leave it in future versions again..

It's better to take 2 oil for drop off and come back empty on the one section. In this way you fully load refined oil and full trucks for the rest of the route. You trade less profit or breakeven on the first route but gain better profit for the other route.

This game always reminds me of that time when I was like 15, so back in 2007. A teacher at my school asked if I ever played Transport Tycoon, and I said I hadn't, so he told me I could have the game from him if I wanted. Coming from Transport Tycoon and locomotion, this game seems to address a lot of the shortcomings. I used to try and find coal mines and transport coal to power stations to make bank initially.
My father has been playing this game since release and i always scoffed at it but after watching this video and playing a ton of Cities Skylines i can see why he played so much, nice to know my dad has taste in games :D
Hi Paul, I just started to play the game this evening, and dear me, it's a lot.. Thank you for all the helpfull tips so far (I'm at 12:27 now). As soon as I get the chance to play again I'll start a new map, with all the features you've shown in this video. I'm going to use your playthrough as a guide to get me started, without going broke the next time (I hope...). Greetings from Eindhoven NL, Bas
When I play, I add another line from crude to refinery only, so to fill in the empty spot caused by 2 to 1 ratio. OR another similar line to second city.
Amazing content!! Can’t wait to see more!! I love how you explained the supply chain to someone like me who has never played this game, yet has watched so many videos on it and never understood it. Keep up the great videos!
Signed in just to drop you a like and a comment. Because I had TF2 sitting in my library just overwhelming me in a brooding kind of way. But, watching these videos now made me start playing and I'm having tons of fun with it, without being overwhelmed, thanks to you!

You should place your truckstops as far away from the industry you can, while being in the catchment area. That way you reduce the distance your trucks have to travel from there, to the drop-off point and back. It might not seem like a lot, but every second you can win back, is money earned at the end of the month.
This is a common mistake some players make. In actuality you want the distance to be as far as possible since you are paid for the distance between your stops. I imagine some players think that the money you are paid is based on the distance between the factories, but that is wrong.
@@Vimpmeatthe distance is calculated in a straight line from pickup location to destination, so if you have roads or rail that turn alot, you lose cash.
@@Vimpmeat the faster, good arrive to their destination the faster you get paid it makes no difference the distance they travel a train can deliver faster then a wagon so it’s a more profitable choice
Nice video, Squirrel! As a player of TF2 myself, I'm a little confused why you built the truck stations where you did. I'm speaking specifically of the Lower Laughton station. Why place the truck station directly across the street from the factory? If you placed it up the road to the very edge of the catchment, you could cut off a pretty significant chunk of travel time, especially important given the slow trucks in 1900. The others have traffic coming from both directions (or will once you start service to Mableforth and Sutton) so I can understand why you'd want them in the middle. The other thing I'm wondering is, why start with a multi-stage good like Fuel? You have a perfectly viable food route in the same area. It pays less than your Fuel Oil run for sure, but has a lower infrastructure cost and will get up and running and profitable much faster than Fuel. I'd definitely want that in place as a "fail safe" to earn something while waiting for that fuel oil run to become profitable. Personally, I'd definitely have started with food. But I really enjoyed the video and am eager for the next! I'm definitely thinking about playing the same map myself and seeing who can get to a billion faster. (Based off in-game date, of course, not real time.)
I get what you mean, but you should consider that the further a good travels (just tested this out, it is about the distance between the two stations, road length is not considered) the more money it will make, so its not a big issue if you make the trucks run a longer route, I think they would even make more money as they run on a higher average speed when the stops are further apart (won’t be a great difference but worth considering for this short distance).
@@peterw.8434 that’s handy to know, actually, as I hadn’t tested this before! 🤣 Thanks! I always build mine in more aesthetically pleasing places close to the works, as it just looks odd plonked down the road on its own
You want them traveling as far as possible for max profit the idea is to build it the furthest away that it still lights up the drop of or pick up zone, so at first he may have them say bring copper from the local copper mine to the closest drop of but later you will make it so they take that copper to one a lot further away and ones from far away are bring it to the one they use to.
I just picked this game up recently, can't wait to see more of this let's play. Going to check out those mods they seem to fix the main... Weirdness of the game.
I know its way late to the game, but one thing you can do, the first truck that brought the crude to the oil refinery, rather than having it run the whole route, you can turn it around back to the first stop. May not seem like much but it could be the ace up your sleeve on a tight game.
You should split up your route into 2 separate parts. the first part is where you bring crude oil to the refinery. The second part is where you take the refined oil from the oil refinery to the fuel refinery and back. The first part should also pickup the fuel and take it into the city and then go back to the oil well. Otherwise you take 2 crude and for the rest of the trip, your trucks run half empty because you only produce 1 refined oil.
Please go to the settings of the playlist and make it list them in the opposite order from now, because it starts with episode 3, continues with episode 2, and then episode 1, and so on.
Thank you for this Video, it helped so much ! i kepy on getting bankrupt being excited to buy trains lol, but i love this idea of the first truck line :)
Nice to see a larger UA-camr covering this game. I've both played and watched alot of tpf. Few things I thought I would point out. Firstly you said your playing on a temperate map but this is clearly tropical due to the white beaches and water. Secondly while playing a generated map is good for playing with no audience. I think using a real life based map makes it much easier to follow the series as the places are relatable I guess. Lastly don't be afraid to take out larger loans especially when starting so you don't have to do boring truck routes. O yeah and the game pays you based on distance and cargo types. This is the same for bus routes so keep the bus stops far apart as you can. Look forward to the next episode.
just a tip for landlords super if u get a TV and turn it on u can c the weather forecast so u will know what's happening outside without having to look at the UI
I would've put a dedicated line from crude to refinery then the rest on the other line. Probably would have spent the money to build the bypass too. The game looks fun though, very much so
27:59 - Should have just told that one to turn back to the oil well (skip to location #1). It's now going to go through the rest of the line completely empty, costing you money, when it could be bringing more crude to the refinery (and getting paid for it) instead.
A few tips from someone with 1200+ hrs in the Transport Fever franchise:
Squirrel mentions it, but it's extremely critical in hard mode to have as little remaining loan at all times, the interest will kill you over time if you just keep it there
6 vehicles is too few, 12 is better, but if you use the line menu in the bottom right corner, you can see how much "product" the vehicles can shift per year - matching that with the amount of products that the city demands will ensure fulfilled demand and good profits. Coming from Transport Tycoon and locomotion, this game seems to address a lot of the shortcomings. I used to try and find coal mines and transport coal to power stations to make bank initially.
Geeez ! I think I just fell in love with this type of game ... I do love these games wich you make your own tons of money ...
15:08 Mistake. He added platforms on both sides when one could do.
This playthrough was so good... please please please do another one on this game please please
Dude, you are an awesome teacher and because you make the game look interesting, I will prob buy it soon..
I was waiting for this from you for a long time. I do miss trucking dairies.
My father has been playing this game since release and i always scoffed at it but after watching this video and playing a ton of Cities Skylines i can see why he played so much, nice to know my dad has taste in games :D
I have been looking for a great video to get started playing this game again! Thanks for the series!
I am new to this games (2 years on), but very much enjoying your style of delivery (pun intended).
Hi Paul,
I just started to play the game this evening, and dear me, it's a lot..
Thank you for all the helpfull tips so far (I'm at 12:27 now).
As soon as I get the chance to play again I'll start a new map, with all the features you've shown in this video.
I'm going to use your playthrough as a guide to get me started, without going broke the next time (I hope...).
Greetings from Eindhoven NL,
Bas
This is an AMAZING game. I've spent A LOT of time on it.
When I play, I add another line from crude to refinery only, so to fill in the empty spot caused by 2 to 1 ratio. OR another similar line to second city.
Agreed. Even if it's a little less efficient.
You are correct. He set it up wrong and gets much less profit by having half empty trucks.
wow, this was awesome. loved the video. thanks
Can't wait to see more of this informative gameplay
My map ended up being different from yours. I do like the way you setup the truck terminals.
Saw an upload and had a "these aren't the droids your looking for"' moment.
Amazing content!! Can’t wait to see more!! I love how you explained the supply chain to someone like me who has never played this game, yet has watched so many videos on it and never understood it. Keep up the great videos!
Just GREAT. Another addictive series from Squirrel. LUL
Love games like this one can`t wait for next episode
Good stuff. Miss the LPs on this channel.
Damn. I feel like I just went through a basic crash course in logistics and economy. More pls.
Signed in just to drop you a like and a comment. Because I had TF2 sitting in my library just overwhelming me in a brooding kind of way. But, watching these videos now made me start playing and I'm having tons of fun with it, without being overwhelmed, thanks to you!
Amazing getting started tutorial! Thanks Squirrel. This game reminds me of Transport Tycoon, of course except for the graphics. Ahh good old times
Hmm, those flat earth people are correct
Aww that brought back memories when you mentioned Biggleswade. Lived near there in Potton and Sandy for a while
Hello from Letchworth...my step daughter lives in Biggleswade. But I would like to live in Moggerhanger, just cos it sounds cool
I love this serie… I want more
Railroad tycoon on Amiga and transport tycoon is very similar, many hours spent on those as I will do with this play through too👍 keep em coming Paul🥳
Squirrel... Since the Seed dosent seem to work now, Been thinking and others may agree, Could you maybe do another Lets Play again so the Seed works for us all to Play along with you. This would be Awesome and i'm sure others would love it.. Also i enjoy watching your Videos. Great work :)
From another commentor
"Problem solved... for Steam, right-click TpF2, select Properties, Betas, None and enter the value buildArchive34983 in the Beta Key field. You will then be switched to the last build before the 2022 Spring Update and your game will be on version b34983.
Generate the map using Squirrel's Seed and settings above, save, revert to Betas - None and pick up the latest 2022 release. You are now ready to play on THIS map but in the newer release. Remember to set only 2 Industries and that Industries never decay. You will have the better line/lane management, depot storage and similar good stuff."
@@TheThunderwesel this shall be a pin post for new players. Great if can be add to main video comment.
@@wizel10 Interestingly, the seed still didn't match the video... and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I did have version b34983 loaded, but the seed showed something very different.
@@JMAviationart you add the beta number in the field as indicated in the comment and then select the beta in the beta drop-down (same screen). Then when you go out to stream it will download and install the beta. Let me know if further details are needed
@@wizel10 Thanks! I'm not sure why it didn't work last time... even though it was showing that I was on the b34983 version. Oh well, it's working now. I appreciate it!
Transport Tycoon De Luxe . this game is my favourite and now this new one is upgrade. brill
@UCkrhkfYJUA4gTKgI9OzcPeA *yea*
I need 10 hours of this
I just picked this game up recently, can't wait to see more of this let's play. Going to check out those mods they seem to fix the main... Weirdness of the game.
Finally can't wait to see all the trains in this
finally, somebody who actually knows how to explain things.
I know its way late to the game, but one thing you can do, the first truck that brought the crude to the oil refinery, rather than having it run the whole route, you can turn it around back to the first stop. May not seem like much but it could be the ace up your sleeve on a tight game.
Exellent presantation!
Man, that soothing voice is reason enough for me for a like and subscribe
Ah, 3D Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Nice.
Yes yes more paul do it more on lets play series in transport fever 2
@@1ceb0xcfbl Have you played Transport fever 2 before?
@@JamesT85Gaming No mate. I played the first one for about 30 hours. (I saw a video of TF2 and you are actually right, apologies on my part).
this series was so nice, so i startet watching it again now :D rly
When squirrels let’s play is more informative then the game’s actual tutorial
This is really Transport Tycoon 2!
just a tip for landlords super
if u get a TV and turn it on u can c the weather forecast so u will know what's happening outside without having to look at the UI
maan its so great and well explained, appreciate the effort
I would've put a dedicated line from crude to refinery then the rest on the other line. Probably would have spent the money to build the bypass too.
The game looks fun though, very much so
got a sub just for having my spirit animal as your channel name 🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣 raised my kids to bark at them at parks fun times
27:59 - Should have just told that one to turn back to the oil well (skip to location #1). It's now going to go through the rest of the line completely empty, costing you money, when it could be bringing more crude to the refinery (and getting paid for it) instead.
Great idea having an end goal otherwise you lose interest! Awesome game and thanks formthe videos
