About Anjelah:
Anjelah Johnson-Reyes was born and raised in San Jose, California where she grew up with four siblings in a large extended family to which she remains close. Anjelah found herself an internet sensation and pioneer in viral UA-cam videos when her notorious “Nail Salon” bit from a local comedy show was posted and received over 100 million views! Shortly thereafter she was added to the cast on the original MADtv where she trademarked her legendary character, Bon Qui Qui. Similar to the nail salon video, the Bon Qui Qui sketch caught on and have been viewed by over 75 million people. The multi-hyphenate’s popularity has translated into four successful comedy specials: That’s How We Do It” (Comedy Central), The Homecoming Show (NUVO TV), Not Fancy (Netflix) and Mahalo & Good Night (Epix). She has displayed her acting prowess both on TV and film. Two weeks ago, my daughter called me after I had just fallen asleep. She’s a young adult living two hours away with her young friend. They were actually in the path of a tornado. I was watching the meteorologist on TV covering the event knowing that it was going over my daughters house. I prayed and suddenly lost communication with her. Eventually, I was able to reach someone with her. At this point, the tornado had passed. After all was said and done the tornado seem to have skipped her house, but definitely messed up houses along the way, around and after her. I give God all the glory for keeping her safe . It was amazing because no one was killed, and there was a lot of destruction and people trapped in vehicles too.

I moved from California to Texas when I was 14. Everyone in I talked to in Texas said earthquakes were much scarier than tornados. My response was always "Earthquakes don't have much warning and are over in a few minutes at most. You either die or you live and go on with your life. Here you have tornados that you watch being born and follow to see if they want to eat your neighborhood or the next one over. You can be waiting for a tornado to hit for HOURS and nothing even happens!"
Also dozens to hundreds of people die in tornadoes every year. Practically no one dies in earthquakes in a given year, on average. And of the few who do, it's just stuff falling on them and not a towering, screaming thousand-foot cloud monster that throws you into a giant meat-grinder.
@@dudermcdudeface3674Right! According to The Weather Channel, in the US "tornadoes average as many deaths per year as earthquakes have killed in the last 27 years combined".
Interestingly tornados cause an average of 100 deaths worldwide each year, with 80 being in the United States! Earthquakes cause 10,000 deaths worldwide each year. But most of the deaths related to earthquakes are actually from spin-off disasters caused by the quake itself like mudslides, tsunamis, fires, and floods.
I don't get it either. Why are people so afraid of earthquakes when tornados and hurricanes cause deaths and destructions every year? Is it because it didn't happen to them?

As a lifelong Kansan I can relate to your hubby's initial response. Most often the weather experts hype up the potential and then it's nada. I am petrified of earthquakes though because of a lack of warning. We have in the last few years been experiencing a quake here and there and it's a weird feeling for sure. Lol. You gotta stay in Oklahoma during a tornado cause, I lived there 36 years and have learned real quick that in certain areas we get out the lawn chairs and a case of beer in the front lawn and watch the sky as we videotape it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💯💯💯💯

Lol! I live in way south Louisiana and we do this with hurricanes! When we get tornado warnings we're like, nah...business as usual. We have neither basements nor root cellars so...business as usual!

@@terripoche5416I think it used to be requirement in Kansas to have basements back when it was known as bullseye of tornadoes. Now Oklahoma is bullseye. Don’t have basement in my apartment complex now so hey if one is gonna hit im gonna watch it come at me lol. Never used a basement anyways. Was taught by dad as a kid no big deal let’s go watch it……sure sound like fun…..

I'm in Texas so I am very familiar with tornadoes although not as familiar as other states, fortunately. But my favorite meme about weather alerts is the one that reminds you how seriously to take the alert.
"Taco Watch" - We have all the ingredients for tacos 🥩🧅🍅🥬🥑 but they are not ready.
"Taco Warning" - Get a plate 🍽 and come to the table. The tacos are here! 🌮🌮🌮

I remember when you came to Jacksonville, Fl… made me sooooo glad I bought tickets.
This and the TJ Maxx bit had me and my gf in tears. For her was especially the TJ Maxx cause you perfectly described me when shopping there.
Seriously she says I take to long in wandering around that store… to point where she takes the shopping cart to the register and tells me to wait outside. Just so I can’t grab every item off shelf while checking out

I remember my first tornado drill in school after we moved from California to Texas. First: Earthquake drills make sense. You duck down under your desk and cover your head so you don't get hit if anything falls. If you are outside you just sit down away from trees and buildings. Simple.
My first tornado drill: All the students were lined up next to the lockers. We had to curl up with our heads against the lockers covered by our arms and our butts facing the hall. That would make sense...if there weren't big glass double doors at either end of the hall! I saw where we were going and asked the teacher why we were all being put in a big straw for the tornado to suck up one by one, after being cut to pieces by the glass doors it broke to get to us!?

I've lived in California for most of my life (thus far,) however I also grew up as a military brat. So, for about 3 years my family lived in Southern Illinois which is as well prone to tornadoes and tornado warnings. I am in total agreement, I'll take earthquakes over tornadoes any day.
Interesting concept, Mrs. Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, "Behind the Joke," I dig it with toast. Btw, the footage when you could hear the storm outside and the lights go out, yeah, that's why I'd rather take on an earthquake. Boom, it hits, things shake. Tornadoes offer too many of "what the hell is that?"

Native Texan here, and I dislike springtime in Texas because of tornadoes. I have always taken the warnings seriously, but have to admit I shake my head at those who go outside to watch for it. When that emergency warning goes off on my phone, my blood pressure immediately skyrockets
Yep I live in Kansas and is no big deal to hear sirens. I’m also one of those out on the front porch with a front row seat for the show 🤣🤣🤣. Also use to chase them in my younger idiotic years 🤦🏼Anymore it is rare in my town to hear sirens though, cause supposedly tornado alley moved south and east.

Different storms have different responses. Here in FL we legit have hurricane parties. The 1st or 2nd stop when getting supplies is the liquor store😂😂😂
I have to drive 1/2 mile to tornado shelter. I keep a chair in my trunk, because I'm not going to sit on the damp floor.
I have no clue where a shelter is around me. I just go to the closet. From the damage I’ve seen, that’s not a good place to shelter either.😳

😆 🤣 I was just visiting my cousins in Oklahoma and on tues of our visit there we were on TORNADO WATCH for 6 hours and Nothing happened, i complained on facebook about not seeing anything and i get in the HOTTUB lol in there for bout half hr when you could FEEL the air change and im like i dont know why but i think we should get out. Get out, rinse, get changed and now its starting to rain so my cousin looks up the report and then he says oooh its getting close and they start some ritual of tying things and moving extra drain spouts and stuff and my wife is like im gonna get in bed. LoL whaaat? You arent gonna sit outside with us and watch?? 😳🤪🙃 she says no thanks and gets in bed. I pulled up a chair outside and boy did THOR bang that hammer something loud and lightning strikes lit up the sky for at least an hr. It was warm and sticky, then rain and sticky. They have a flagpole and flag was straight down for most of it but when the winds changed and kicked up and temps dropped, that flag was dancing up a storm lol pun intended! I have at least 45min of video to upload still. Tornado went around us but the sky was beautiful! Loved it!
