Better as a ID3 for sure
Just bought a Launch Edition and it is fantastic.
🥳
A wonderful review by a superb motoring journalist who has taken all the essence of a car, and distilled it into what makes it great! Well done.
I've ordered a top-spec Uk Iconic (with that essential heat pump). It was a straight choice between the Renault and the Tesla Model 3 (forget the id3/MG4......no contest!
The 'sterile', boring and poorly made Tesla is now looking so dated, and the tech is so 'yesterday'.
And on the 0-60 time.......the claim of 7.5 seconds, is actually 6.9 (that's Mini Cooper S territory but without the instant torque)......how typically French, downplaying it. Unlike the over-exaggerating Italians 😂 .
A brilliant touch going to the experts for the tech, Google, constantly updated.......well done Renault!
I also reviewed the Renault Megane E-tech and I must say it was very promising, but it felt as though Renault has now began drawing inspiration from the German competitors 😂
Greetings from Belgium!
"60 kilowatt per hour battery" -- not to be a diva but the unit is actually the opposite, it's kilowatt multiplied by hour not divided by hour, hence kWh in short. That's because the watt is already an instantaneous measurement unit, a sort of "per hour" measurement, so then we multiply that by time to measure the total energy stored (instantaneous energy multiplied by time = total energy). Hence the kWh which is a multiplication by the time unit not division. Cheers
To be fair they are stupid units. They are backwards compared to SI units. 60kW as total energy and 60kW/h as instantaneous energy would make more sense. But it is what it is and you’re correct.
If you want to understand where The Renault / Nissan group positioned this car. The top of the line Megane trim is comparable to the base Nissan Ariya trim. If you compared the Ariya to to a Tesla Model 3 you could make a compelling case? But the Megane? Wait for a future Tesla model 2. Unless you like the looks of the Megane which are great and it’s efficiency is great for city driving. Then it’s all the car you need as a city car
Power tailgate, adjustable boot floor, and centre armrest with ski hatch would have made it unbeatable in the medium family car market.
Of course it's better than a Tesla. Renault was created in 1899 and Tesla in 2003.
🥳🥳
Having test driven many electric cars before buying, I can confirm that fit & finish of this car is spot on. BHP and charging speed is good. But at just over 6ft I hit my head on the top of the roof frame , getting in and out. Definitely a must test drive vehicle. 😊
I am glad you enjoyed the car as much as I did, although unfortunately for me and my small height I didn't bang my head getting in 🤣
Test drove and ordered one today. Was forced to emergency brake with 3 people in the car and it did the job very well so I can not really complain about the the brakes feeling a bit severe. Thought your review was good and summed up the same impression I got of the car.
Yellow Led strip. Change to sport mode and it is red. Comfort? Blue etc. It actually is more than decor.
Source: I have this exact model in my garage, but nordic edition so the steering wheel is on the other side and so on is has a bigger centre screen
We hope you are enjoying everything the Megane E Tech has to offer!
@@holdcroft I do. The car is great. The app.. yeah. I hope that too gets outsourced to google ;) but other than that? More or less greatness from Renault here
I LUUUVE the look of that car,, 🥰
We do too! 🥳
i have bought the iconic version in France and it seems that i have a bigger center screen than the one in this review.
Is it the same for other people ?
Nice review of a (as I think) grrrrreat car :)
Thank you! We think it’s a great car too! 🎉
But do the rear seats turn down to increase the trunk space? I mean will my Specialized Rockhopper fit in the rear?
Oui, les sièges arrière sont rabattable ! 😉
Yet, customers reporting no mats coming in their cars, park button getting stuck in, and range way below quoted. I’m always nervous about anything electric related to Renault, they’ve got bad form. I like the design but reliability could be a major issue, and 38k is a lot to invest in problems
Agreed,Renault are not known for reliable electric’s so like you I’m a bit sceptical especially at £38,000.
I love the Dacia cruise control 😻
Renault has responded to this. Renault a répondu ma puce...
Looking forward to a time when electric cars don’t have massive intrusive screens. Buttons are so much better.
Is it difficult to find fast public charging points.
"zap map" app on phone
Looks like a nice car but the gimped screen in the RHD version and price == instant pass. A shame since I was very interested in the car initially.
Nice review but someone who is 5’4 can’t really comment on head and leg room 😂
Talk about getting a salesman doing a car review 🤦🏽♂️
Best car in the world and it has everything you could ever want and some more. The thing is, it’s a good car but this guy has not done it any justice as it so hard to believe a word he says.
Way too expensive!!!!!!
"Better than Tesla?" :D No, sorry, for this price - it's trash.
No, it’s certainly not a looker. And let’s be honest, French cars are famously unreliable - particularly in the electrical department, so I’m not sure all electric is a good thing. Time will tell though.
Famous unreliable for people never owned them? Only second type Laguna was known for electrical errors. Bought my 3th Megane now, doing 40k miles a year, never faced any problems. Change oil and tires when needed, it just keeps going 😎
renault has been super reliable when it comes to BEVs: the Zoe has been around for years and probably the most reliable car in europe
Looks on a car is relative and down to personal preference...so you should have said "I don't think its a looker". Many people really like the look of it. I think it looks great.
