In my eyes very important to mention: Nearly ALL common touristic places (Reynisfjara, Gulfoss, Geysir, Skogafoss, Seljandsfoss and more) are with a no fly sign. Understandable because on such places a lot of people are visiting tay for day, hour for hour, minute for minute.
Another thing to consider: The weather is rough. I personally would suggest a larger drone NOT out of the Mini series.
Another point are the dangerous Icelandic birds. Even outside the nesting season they can attack drones. They defends their territory.
In my case I though the whole city Reykjavik is a no fly zone. I think this is not true but the height need to be lower than the tallest building in the city. Please double-check. There’s a DJI store in Reykjavik. They made a lot of money in replacing drones from tourists who melted because of flying to close to the vulcan.
The penalties are just higher than high, but the landscapes are dronewise extremely beautiful!

I just went to register as I will be visiting Iceland in a few months and to register as a recreational pilot there is a fee of 5500ISK so it's no longer free.

@@mauDrone I’m from the US so not sure if that impacts it or if it’s the same for any non-EU country. Would be nice to know.

It does not matter if you are American, Japanese, Canadian...
There are some problems only for Russian.
You have to register yourself as a pilot in the first EASA Country where you are going to fly.
I suggest you to attend the A1A3 open license course and obtain the license. You can do it in one of the EASA Countries and it is valid to fly in all the 31 Countries.
Please do also an insurance that covers you as a pilot.
You can find a lot of videos and information about European rules here in my channel.
I hope it could be useful
