  • Even though I have an extreme minimalist wardrobe, I am not in love with all the pieces I own. In this video I am going to explain why I still keep pieces in my wardrobe that are not 100% perfect.

    When I owned lot of clothes it was easier to find favourite items because I got to choose from so many now that I decluttered and also changed size I feel as I don’t have favourite comfy jeans or fun colours.. so I’m not sure if I should go back to maximalism again . This vid made me feel better when you say all items doesn’t need to be perfect

    Yes! I agree! Personaly I don’t have a perfect wardrobe either, but it has become much more perfect since I started to sow my own clothes :) I often use second hand material like old t-shirts that has got a color that I like but maybe not the shape I want. Old sheets or curtains are also often good materials to make bigger items with, like dresses or pants.

    I think the more I stay away from instagram, the happier I am with my clothes. 😂
    I've found nudie jeans to have lovely deep pockets (they are mostly unisex styles, so I think that's why). They are always organic cotton and ethically made but I still buy them only secondhand because they are quite pricey.

    To be honest I struggle a lot with this... I don't know what my style is and find it very hard to like a lot of pieces that I own. I do care what I look like, I wish I didn't, but I do (T-T) I like to look good but at the same time comfortable and this can sometimes be a struggle. I want to look at my clothes as tools or objects that help me go through my day, but it's hard to do that sometimes and leave style aside. It's not even about social media, but more about my own expectations, I guess. Your videos and Yeom videos help a lot, so hopefully, I can start making some progress and stop having this unrealistic expectations and notions regarding my clothing. Thank you~🍃

    I agree with the fact if I got rid of everything I didn't like, I would not have as many practical clothing pieces. I tend to struggle a bit with purchasing to many items in a go sometimes, so I have been trying to slowly stop myself from doing that as I am trying to stop shopping. As I think we forget sometimes that what we have is enough, the annoyingness of consumerism breaking the link. There are some pieces in my closet that are 10 years old and still holding true. I had to replace my jeans at the start of the year as the seams on mine kept on coming apart and had been previously repaired, bought 3 pairs only wear 1, but on the plus side at least I have backups. But you will find great pieces eventually as well, it truly does take time and I'm the same I like to try everything on before I buy it.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  4 роки тому +1

      To stop having more and more things I follow my very loosely placed rule of only replacing things. But If I found a piece I really want I'd also just take it with me and see later if I want to get rid of something else... Normally it works out☺ Oh yes backups seem like a gold idea as long as it's not too much ☺

    I have three pairs of jeans. I only love the one because the other two are soon worn out, but I will use them till they fall apart. I have five t-shirts, I have just bought them because my old ones did all fell apart at the same week. Then underwear, one sleep wear and one set of work out wear. My wardrobe needs sweaters because I don’t own any at the moment. Other than that I think my wardrobe is ok. I never run out of clothing when I wash two times a week. Greetings from Russia!)) I am really happy that I’ve subscribed to your channel as your videos are highly inspiring. I fully agree with you that sustainability matters a lot. It also takes me much time to find a suitable piece of clothing. And as I have spent so much time looking for it I want it to work long. And I’am lazy), I don’t want to spend so much time in shops. Unfortunately, I don’t have second hands at hand, and I don’t want to travel to the other part of the city, so the only way out door me is to shop just in one place I have found. So, I drop into it when I have to buy something. In most cases I easily buy what I want. Sometimes the item is sold out))). My wardrobe is quite minimalistic as it is only 50cm wide))) But I wish I could declutter the rest of our things... It’s extremely difficult if you have a big family(

    Again an amazing video, Lia 🤗 Thanks a lot!🍀
    That's a pity with the 2nd best things 🤔 Because, of course we absolutely love our favourite clothes and want to wear them all the time - but then again they also fall apart much easier/faster and sometimes it's hard to find a similar item of the same quality...
    Also that we like something just "not so much" like our most favourite objects, doesn't mean that we don't like it at all...if you like it 2nd best: that's actually VERY much...it's not like you would completely hate it, you know what I mean? 😅 for me that was such a big realisation! 🤣
    (and quite healing from my little depression of not getting rid of my too-much-stuff MUCH faster😁)
    Oh wow! 25€ that's actually A LOT for 2nd hand pants!! 🤤 a bit like the "fancy" chi-chi vintage depot-vente-shops in Paris 🙈
    like...you could get new ones for much less, if there wouldn't be that ecofriendly/sustainability question 🤦‍♀️ aiaiaiii 😖
    Do you guys have no Caritas/Kolping/Emmaus/Volkshilfe - shops in your city?
    There they do sell clothes more affordable and it has social aspects as well, like they're employing long-term unemployed or people with special needs.
    But you know...even if you said owning less makes you happier (which of course is true for all of us following the minimalist/sustainability path)
    I guess there's no need in being SO focused on a certain amount of items...I think it makes not really a difference if you now have 15 or 25 items...like, it doesn't matter if you have 1 or 2 or even 10 clothing items more - For me, you still would be an EXTREME minimalist who makes intentional and sustainable decisions, is reducing her Co2impact by buying 2nd hand objects that have already been produced and by buying these, you're saving them from ending in landfill.... and who tries to inspire others by showing personal impressions of her own individual journey (AND BTW doing a great job with it👌)
    THAT is SO much more than the average person out there can say, so I think you really can be a bit proud of yourself, you know? 😘
    A question that I'm interested in is, what do you actually do with the old clothes that you declutter? Do you sell them or do you make creative art projects out of it, or use them as cleaning rags...that's always my problem: with the sustainability question I do have SERIOUS problems of "just" throwing away stuff 😣 I always try to find a new purpose or home for them until they fall apart...NOT easy 🙈🙈🙈

    One suggestion on how to be happier with some pieces in your wardrobe would be to learn to sew and make them yourself. Of course there will be some learning curve and first pieces may be far from perfect. But eventually you will come to the point, when you have the idea of how exactly that piece should look like - how long, which color, pockets or no pockets, which neckline - and you will be able to sew something signifantly close to that picture in your head and not search for the item in thifshops for 2 years. Just an idea. Maybe not for you - but in general, for those who can be intersted in one possible solution to that. The downside of this approach is that sewing comes with stuff... like there will be some number of items you will need to keep around to sew. So maybe it is less minimal, but kind of sustainable I guess... Anyway, thanks for the video!

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  4 роки тому +2

      Yes! Totally! I do sew my own pieces sometimes or knit them, but I decluttered my sewing machine and now it is harder (the one I had was giant but really bad quality, so it was always a hassle) but making my own clothes is definitely a solution, at least for one part of the problem. Sometimes I also don't know what I need and only realize it is not perfect when I use the thing I thought was perfect before... ☺

    • @PetitMju
      @PetitMju 4 роки тому

      @@ecofriendlia when I was a kid and had my first attempts on sewing - I was using my mam's sewing machine and it was really heavy and quite old and needed repairs like quite often. I feel like it was part of the reason that sewing did not become my hobby back then. But it feels much different now when I own my own machine that is new and that I can lift easily with one hand - it is so easier, it doesn't stuck and it is not bulky. So, may be one day, when you will feel like owning a sewing machine again - mentally erase the image of the one you previously owned and look for light and modern one:)) Thank you for answering and thank you for your videos - I sincerely enjoy them!!

    Perfect minimalist wardrobes exist only on perfect minimalist channels on UA-cam which are fake and I do not follow.
    Truth is, being sustainable and minimalist means you wear what you already have in your wardrobe, shopping mistakes included, to the last piece of fabric and tear. That's what I do. At this stage I only own a 10% clothes which I don't like and regret buying but I don't care, I'll wear them anyway, when they're destroyed I'll think about replacing them or I'll simply keep wearing the rest I own as I can do without many pieces and don't miss owning things I used to own in the past. They're just clothes for God's sake, being a minimalist should be about conquering peace of mind forgetting about shopping and false needs, not spending our time crying over our unsustainable wardrobe! Love from Italy! 💙

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  4 роки тому

      I guess you are right, and perfect wardrobes don't actually exist. Maybe depending on what you call perfect. I totally understand your perspective but I think there are a lot of people that think clothes are very important even when being a minimalist. I am somewhere in between, I like to wear clothes I feel good in therefore I do give away things that don't fit me or my lifestyle and I personally think that is ok as long as I am not just throwing them into the garbage. But clothes are really not that important and I hope we all have other topics we are more passionate about ☺ and the way you handle your wardrobe does indeed sound like the most sustainable way possible!
