Not exactly true. About 40% of the music in the show is Traditional Irish music re-arranged for the show. I believe this song here is an original composition though.
The second half, after the lament, are very common session Irish session tunes... Mountain Road, Miss McLeod's, Jenny's Chickens. Go to pretty much any Irish session anywhere and most people will know them.
Flute actually. Whistle's are made to be held and played vertically.
