Baby Scatha, Peter Jackson's King Kong is not just my favorite King Kong version. It's also one of my favorite movies of all time☺️ I re-watched it during the lockdown - and it has aged very well. The story is still heart wrenching and human. Even the special effects are still top notch. I like Kong Skull Island, too, though. It's a very entertaining movie, although the overly large CGI Kong isn't nearly as convincing as Andy Serkis' Kong.
I actually I felt more bad for the Kong from ‘’Kong: Skull Island’’ because he is only teenager in 2017 and second, he is just trying his best to protect the island.
@Ruv the Russian I still feel more bad for 2017 Kong because there is a comic named Skull Island: The Birth Of Kong where we see the MonsterVerse Kong’s parents die. Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the same exact thing we have seen before. ‘’Kong: Skull Island’’ is something different. Kong’s parents died when he was just a baby. 2017 Kong sits by the place where his parents died and looks into the sky as he sees the beautiful neon light colour. And that is also how you make a perfect Kong.
@Veda Aryan 6B Yeah, except a lot of the main actors don't really get much to do. I mean, why take some incredibly strong talents, and not give them an arc?
@Aryan and Veda 6B the 2017 Kong is suppose to be bigger, so it somehow has a chance against Godzilla in the upcoming movie. But other than that, the Peter Jackson movie was way better in almost every aspect.
King Kong 2005, while it has it flaws, feels like a complete and utter love letter to the original. Peter Jackson(the original is his favorite movie ever)really poured his heart and soul into every aspect. The New York setting, Skull island, its natives and creatures all feel amazing and totally realized. When you finally get to the island it truly feels like it could be a lost world. There was such a good buildup and the characters weren't just stand ins. King Kong feels like a perfect adventure movie, its emotional, its pays homage to the original and I think the creators would honestly be proud. It feels like a true epic just like when I saw fellowship of the ring. It has its flaws but I think it's a masterpiece. Kong skull island is a genre film. I "liked" the film but it was so utterly forgettable. Honestly the characters remind me of suicide squad. A bunch of characters get thrown into a story but I didn't care about any of them(except John C Reilly). They are completely one dimensional. I really liked the 70's setting and the look of Kong is cool. The cinematography is cool and there are some amazing shots. But I never felt like Skull island was a real place at all that was compelling. The natives were boring, the main "threat" didn't seem like much of a threat at all. I didn't ever get the sense that Kong was a god or that I should be rooting for him. The movie honestly feels like it exists solely for his introduction into the Godzilla universe. Which is okay, but I need MORE than that in my film. I need compelling characters. I need to be emotionally invested in Kong to care about him down the line. That didn't happen here at all. I don't hate the film or anything but that's my opinion. I'm going to now watch the video and see if I agree lol. We might have a completely different perspective.
@@stevenjones4059 lol you are the kid here. The 2005 movie features waay more creatures than in kong skull island. It also include most of them from the book itself. The ecosystem that is thriving but at the same time dying due to the island sinking at a slow rate to the point that it drove creatures from the past to undergone evolution which gives rise to the nightmarish versions for the sake of survival. The abyssal chaisms scene alone features more animals than any of the ones featured in kong skull island. Keep talking shit, loser.
I just watched the ending to King Kong (2005), and right now, the idea of Kong: Skull Island actually kinda triggers me. I get that you want to keep him alive so he can fight Godzilla, but good God, at least give him a good origin story!
Oh yeah 2005 King Kong fighting was way dirtier than when 2017 Kong stomped on smaller Skull Crawlers' heads, and ate a person, and used a tree as a baseball bat, and used the ship propeller as a whip, and literally ripped the Skull Crawler's guts out. LOL
Gabriel Gonzalez while the 2005 one bit people's heads of crushed vrex heads with rocks threw people into walls crushing their whole body bites vrex tounges of and litterally PULLS APART THE JAWS OF A VREX AND THEN CRUSHES THE VREX'S SKULL WITH HIS BARE HANDS
Strange how Skull Island in Peter Jackson's King Kong is entirely CGI, yet feels more real and alive then the Skull Island in Kong: Skull Island, which is filmed on location in Vietnam
A least Kong skull island did something different then watching Kong going up a building and falling off a building and then die and redo a movie with the same thing
The new movie is a huge disappointment. I can't believe people these days actually prefer 1h30m to 2h long movies when there's not enough time to really accomplish anything memorable. The 2005 King Kong, was superior in every way and the best part is you get to see Kong more than the average computer generated character. It's really ironic how the old days really do turn out to be better.
Dude, People have their own opinions My opinion is that Kong skull Island is far more better then the 2005 But your opinion is your opinion so i respect that
Most of the 2005 Kong's benefit comes from the magic of Andy Serkis, it's quite rare we do actually see him on screen and not motion capture. His appearance in Black Panther is evidence of his awesomeness.
when i saw king kong for the first time. i couldn't sleep. I was so attached with kong on that night i could not believe my self. really 1990's and 2000's movies were gem
I understand that people complain about the span of time 2005's King Kong takes throughout. But in my opinion, every lengthy second of it amounts into importance
Dude! I'm so with you here! You said you were 10? I was like 9 or 10 watching this too and it was just legendary. You just can't forget watching king Kong in theaters when it came out. It was phenomenal.
Although I respect your opinion. This video does feel a little one sided for a Versus video. If it were a "Why Kong 2005 is better than Skull Island" video, this would make a little more sense
10:29 Well, to be fair, Anne in the original changed appearance quite often as well, as her hair would suddenly look neat after climbing out of a river.
They collaborated on Begins and Dark Knight. However, James decided Batman belonged more to Hans than him, so he decided not to compose Dark Knight Rises with Hans.
I agree that the Jackson's characters are much better but your point about the 2017 movie being on human side is absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical. 1.Characters are not bombing an uncharted island just for fun. They clearly state that those are scientific devices. 2.Kong:Skull Island evidently does not endorse american interventionism. The movie punishes it. In some ways it plays out like the Avatar. But Skull Island does it even better because unlike Avatar where humans are villains that we should not empathize with Skull Island doesn't villainize any of the sides. It shows both sides' perspectives. The whole theme of the movie is "We don't belong here". The trailer song is called " We've gotta get out of this place". Even one of the main characters says :" You don't go into someone's house and start dropping bombs unless you are picking a fight."
While you did bring up good points, I never found King Kong to be a very gripping film. I just found it boring in on interesting. I can't really say why I just didn't enjoy it, which is why I favor Kong: Skull Island.
Finally, someone who gets it. To me, he was only praising the Peter Jackson film, while he was trying to nitpick every little thing wrong with skull island. It just came off as biase to me

King Kong (1933) is still the best. The effects may not look real, but they're still interesting and are fun to look at. Kong isn't very fleshed out, but he's portrayed more as an animal than human. The pacing is fast, and the characters are solid. I know that it's in B&W, but it's still a really good movie and worth watching/ talking about.
For example when 2017 has the skullcrawlers jaw open with the tongue exposed, he could've bitten it off like 2005 did to the V-Rex. Also, I want the new king to walk like a gorilla and not upright
I know the video is a bit old, but I REALLY have to wonder what movies you're watching, because your description of the US military as portrayed in movies is the exact opposite of almost every war movie made from 1970 onwards. As mentioned by someone else in the comment section, the portrayal of the military in Avatar is the norm to the point of being a cliche (and cramming every other military cliche they could in the process).
To be honest. I don't fucking care about if Peter Jackson's King Kong is in way better than Kong: Skull Island as I love it, but your points are really good on the comparation and I respect that.
i agree 157% with you that Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) is far better than Kong Skull Island (2017) and you gave alot of reasons why its better because of its action scenes, story, Kong himself, the conclusion and the musical score from my point of view, i just recently watched the 2017 film and i felt like, wow that has to be by far the WORST monster film i have ever seen in my entire life, and by the way who would look that clean after spending god knows how many days they where on that island, i honestly feel from my perspective that whoever wrote and directed this film and from my point of view i feel like they tried to make this 2017 film better than the 2005 version and just for laughs it clearly failed with a capital F, myself as a person i've never been a fan of re-boots or remakes or whatever you can call them, but despite the 2005 version being a remake it really is an amazing and fascinating movie in its own right, the only re-boots i really love love would be Rise of the planet of the apes (2011) Dawn of the planet of the apes (2014) War for the planet of the apes (2017) and Karate Kid (2010) but not as much as the 1984 film.
We were both 10 years old in 2005 . I liked universal King Kong cause he faces more dinosaurs and makes his life more exciting. Kong skull island had the same connection. Dinosaurs in Kong are more exciting . The skull crawlers are maybe a relative of a crocodile . Long live King Kong
I agree with everything you say aside from the soundtrack, because the two are not comparable: King Kong's s OST is a full orchestra-played instrumental 3h-long score mostly aiming to set the mood for the scenes; Skull Island's is also thought to blend in with and help set the movie' "historical" setting - that's why it contains a couple of rock songs from the '70s. They're two very different types of soundtrack, because the starting idea was different, so imo they can't really be compared. Also, don't mean to offend....but don't you think your opinions might not be entirely objective because of the strong impact Peter Jackson's King Kong had on your child's mind?
King Kong is far superior because it's, y'know, an actual adaptation of King Kong. Skull Island whole point of existing was to set up a crappy Versus movie.
I mostly agree. Skull Island has many references to other movies (esp Apocalypse Now), which depending on your point of view, makes for either entertaining "homages" or shameless scene rip offs. Most of them gave me a chuckle, but the sword fighting scene pushed it too far for my tastes. King Kong is actually a love story cleverly wrapped in an action flick so men don't notice. The 30's original was probably the ultimate date movie at the time.
Love story is definitely the word. The original King Kong story is a more adult and tragic version of Beauty and the Beast. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy! I have plenty more versus videos on the way.
They don’t make them like they use to that’s for sure. Cross overs are cool but In all honesty it’s just for action which I love, but a story is just as important tho.
So pracitically King Kong is a masterpiece with tons of style, personality and emotion where Skull Island is monster movie created for the upcoming crossover...
They should joint King Kong with Planet of the apes and include Chewbacca. Since Starwars and 20th Century Fox both belong to Disney now, this I find, is the right step to make.
This is a good review but there are two major points of contention I have with it: (1) The portrayal of American armed forces (2) The actions scenes So about Hollywood's portrayal of the American military... I think you have things a little backwards. Americans are NOT given some sort of pass for being imperialistic and destructive, and if there is a double standard between America's actions and those of other cultures as depicted in most movies, it is a double standard that works AGAINST America. Avatar was not "Avant guard" for portraying American forces as bullies with an itchy trigger finger and zero sense of responsibility; it was actually a very stereotypical depiction of the military created entirely by people who don't understand international conflict, diplomacy, or even the ability to make a cost benefit analysis. In short, Hollywood is both ignorant of, and venomous towards the military in general, but none more so than the American Military, who will ALWAYS be depicted as violent aggressors with no nuance to speak of. Hollywood kind of hates the country that has fostered them since their inception. The action scenes... were laughably bad throughout most of the Peter Jackson King Kong. I know I know, apostasy, but lets get real for a moment; everything that happens on Skull Island in the Jackson version looks like it could have been clipped out of an episode of The Flinstones. The dinosaurs look HORRIBLE, the humans appear to be floating in front of characters from a hanna barbera cartoon, and that fight with the three T-Rexes... MY GOD! That fight deserves a special place in hell! Long after Happy Days jumped the shark, but many years before Indiana Jones 4 nuked the fridge, Kong "fought the Rex". That whole scene was laughably ridiculous the second you realize the amount of trouble even one Rex is willing to go through to eat a woman who amounts to a single chicken nugget... it burned more calories in the chase than she ever could have replenished, but it only goes down hill from there. Did I say down hill? I meant DOWN MOUNTAIN. Yes, all three Rexes continued fighting down the side of a mountain all the while snapping at the woman who, as aforementioned, amounted to the nutritional value of a chicken nugget to their massive bodies... come to think of it, were they going to share the meager bit of meat clinging to her thighs, or throw down with each other after falling off a mountain and battling Kong to the death? Maybe Peter Jackson should have tried watching animal planet to see how predators in the wild really relate to one another. Most fights are strategically avoided unless there is something significant to gain... hope that nugget was worth it all!
2005: A slow well thought time taken to flesh out, tragic story of a misunderstood ape lord. 2017: a "lets get this over with and focus on making this movie setup the next" generic monster action flick.
The 2005 kong was my childhood movie but I was born in 2006. The 2017 was amazing and I enjoyed it......but not us much when I watch the original one I was scares but the monsters in there those shit gave me nightmares but it is still in my top 10 favorites movies of all time
I agreed with literally everything you had to say in this video, until the Batman v. Superman diss. Apart from that though, the 2005 film is easily a superior film in every meaningful way. I actually consider it Peter Jackson's best movie by far.
A lot of my fellow Vietnamese would tell you that Skull Island was better than King Kong because it was filmed in Vietnam, and most of them just have blind nationalism or blind love for big cinematic universe setups. I'm here to say that King Kong will always be king.
I do agree. Visually it was stunning but it was very similar in design to the Cloverfield monster. Especially with its long stick-like legs. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy!
In my honest opinion, I don't like "Kong: Skull Island" on the exact same level as Peter Jackson's film, but I do enjoy it as it's own thing (starring Kong, of course).
peter jackson's remake is a masterpiece, I actually felt a connection with the characters when i first watched it. the newer one wasn't that bad, i mean it could have been worse. this is why we should never compare kong: skull island with Peter jackson's masterpiece
Zainad Hamad, I agree! IMO Peter Jackson´s King Kong is an underrated masterpiece! I really cared for the human characters, and Andy Serkis and the CGI wizards managed to give Kong a soul. He is actually not the main antagonist. The bad guys are the humans who abduct Kong in order to make money with the big guy! They are to blame for the disaster in New York! As to 2017 Kong - Skull Island: I liked it. It tells an interesting story and it is a very entertaining pop corn movie. But I was very annoyed that quite a few reviewers (mostly American reviewers) claimed that Kong - Skull Island is better than Peter Jackson´s Kong. That is absurd. Even the special effects are not better than Peter Jackson´s Kong, although it is 12 years older! Peter Jackson´s Kong aged very well. His Kong still looks absolutely stunning! There are only very few things which could have been better: some of the fight scenes should have been a bit shorter. And I dislike Peter Jackson´s natives. They seem to be more like zombies than real indigenous people who try to make a living although the resources are scarce. I dont´ know why Jackson choose to show them in such an unflattering way. Even the natives in the 1933 version are shown as strange but brave. They really try to fight and to contain Kong´s rage, although they are the ones who have to pay heavily for their bravery. If I could change one thing from Peter Jackson´s Kong, it would be the natives!

True
@Ruv the Russian I still feel more bad for 2017 Kong because there is a comic named Skull Island: The Birth Of Kong where we see the MonsterVerse Kong’s parents die. Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the same exact thing we have seen before. ‘’Kong: Skull Island’’ is something different. Kong’s parents died when he was just a baby. 2017 Kong sits by the place where his parents died and looks into the sky as he sees the beautiful neon light colour. And that is also how you make a perfect Kong.
@Ruv the Russian As much I still feel more bad for 2017 Kong, I respect your opinion.
Not the same Kong
Jackson's version is easily the superior film, but Kong Skull Island is still an excellent movie.
Lol, our perspectives are actually quite the same.

I just watched the ending to King Kong (2005), and right now, the idea of Kong: Skull Island actually kinda triggers me. I get that you want to keep him alive so he can fight Godzilla, but good God, at least give him a good origin story!
I thought Skull Island was really good tho
Oh yeah 2005 King Kong fighting was way dirtier than when 2017 Kong stomped on smaller Skull Crawlers' heads, and ate a person, and used a tree as a baseball bat, and used the ship propeller as a whip, and literally ripped the Skull Crawler's guts out. LOL

Strange how Skull Island in Peter Jackson's King Kong is entirely CGI, yet feels more real and alive then the Skull Island in Kong: Skull Island, which is filmed on location in Vietnam
All down by to amazing filmmaking techniques by Jackson. 🎥

King Kong is a stand alone movie, where Kong Skull Island is not. That makes a big difference.

Its no contest, we all know which one is the best one.
The only good kong movies are the 33 and the 05 versions, 05 king is one of my favorite movies also.
You forgot the number one fail of kong skull island...brie larson
If Kong 2017 used 2005's fighting style, he would've beaten the skull crawler so easily (biting, breaking jaws and smashing against walls)
That's a good point. He would have won the fights easier.
Jackman’s soundtrack for winter soldier is surprisingly good
To be honest.
I think people nowadays tend to let their inner children get the better of them.
You couldn't make KING KONG today -- he's too short to enthrall contemporary audiences.

2:44 You are not suppose to feel sorry for them. The film wants you to like seeing them die
This is a good review but there are two major points of contention I have with it:
(1) The portrayal of American armed forces
(2) The actions scenes
So about Hollywood's portrayal of the American military...
Most fights are strategically avoided unless there is something significant to gain... hope that nugget was worth it all!
these 2 films have a special meaning to me. i can't choose one over the other. they're both great films in my opinion.
2005: A slow well thought time taken to flesh out, tragic story of a misunderstood ape lord.
2017: a "lets get this over with and focus on making this movie setup the next" generic monster action flick.
Sometimes, all you need is a generic monster flick. But that varies from person to person. I agree with you.

peter jackson's remake is a masterpiece, I actually felt a connection with the characters when i first watched it. the newer one wasn't that bad, i mean it could have been worse. this is why we should never compare kong: skull island with Peter jackson's masterpiece
Yes, and one of the most same fight scene is when Kong force the monster mouths like he was going to tear his mouth apart!
