    Hello from North Carolina USA. Found your channel the other day and have binged watched all of them. I really enjoy your good humor and work ethics. You have accomplished a lot in a short time and things are looking good. You are a beautiful young couple working to achieve your goals and in doing so you will find that your love and respect for each other will grow into an unbreakable bond that will last forever. Looking forward to your next video already.

    Absolutely love your videos...while watching you attempting to get your truck out of the mud I was reminded of the time I was in my way to a Boy Scout meeting when I noticed a car stuck in the mud...I asked if I could and the driver said yes...I told her to slowly press on the gas while I pushed the car from the back...well instead of slowly she (the driver) floored the gas causing the back wheels to spin and covering me from head to toe with mud..the car pulled out of the mud and I was left standing there covered in mud...no one believed me at the meeting how it happened....never lose your sense of humor...

    Dan & Laura TY for the amazing video! I love to see all your hard work. A quote: "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” - Michelangelo. As you two chip away and remove the old; what lies underneath is your creation waiting to be revealed. One day, as you two sit in your home, you may reminisce about those days and the final revelation of "Dan's and Laura's" dream coming true. God Bless You Both! ~ John

    If you lay down some tarps in the barn, then the dirt chippings will fill the tarp, then when it's full enough it can just be picked up and set in the wheelbarrow, and be easier to remove, instead of having to use a shovel and scoop them all up.

    I uncovered my original brick fireplace a while back during a kitchen remodel. It had been plastered over. Lots of chiseling and scraping later, and it's now painted and looks great. Windows will look awesome in your barn I think. :)

    Good to see the renovations under way, I don’t know if u have been told but please use a Hydraulic lime mortar mix when repointing the walls, cement does not allow the walls to breathe about 3 parts sand 1 part lime, always use a mask and safety glasses, I wish u both the very best with this endeavour, ps have as much fun along the way

    The stone building could be the start of a beautiful home, I personally would build timber frame rooms on both sides of it, then you can use the frame to put the stone veneer up, much quicker and easier plus you can tie the stone to the timber frame for more support, just put a concrete foundation under the stone.

    You can use a mixture of sand lime and water to make this it makes it so that your walls can breathe there in Portugal if that's where you are if not you need to check with the people in your surroundings and see how they do their buildings

  • @marybates2201
    @marybates2201 Рік тому +1

    Hello, you two. So pleased you are wanting to take the walls back to how they originally looked. If you are wanting building advice, check out project portugal. Nick and Andrea have renovated their barn, but Nick had his own building buisness before they moved to Portugal. He has recently started doing "how to videos," but even just watching them, they give lots of advice. Andrea is the gardener of the 2. They also physically help others, sometimes a barter system of labour exchange. They are in central Portugal. You know the clay crap from the wall, you could use that to make your drive way a bit more solid. I was born in the Lake District, and that was something often seen, that and coal cinders and ash from the fires. How has it been living in your bell tent? X

    If you are going to use Lime render on the walls, you can varnish the keys and push them into the lime as a feature. I had a 200 y/o cottage in Cornwall and did this over the front door inside.

    My basement walls had dirt all over them when we bought our house, I found a brush attachment for my drill that made cleaning it off a breeze, no sure if you all may have considered a tool like that 😊
    The drill brush attachments can be found with metal bristles which would do a great job on those walls!

    I am wondering just what the final inside walls will look like. Knocking off all of the old covering is a task and a half! An undertaking I do not believe I would have undertaken. I appreciate the effort you guys are putting into this and at least you are getting some nice fill material for the driveway! Once removed you can plaster the inside for nice smooth level walls or simply add backers to the stone and use wood to cover the stone. The original stone may look great but there will be so many holes, nooks, and crannies in it there is no telling just what will move into them! You guys may have some ideas on how to overcome this....I can't wait to see what the final product looks like! GREAT JOB so far!!

    • @marybates2201
      @marybates2201 Рік тому

      From what I gather if a barn was built before 1950, then no license is needed in Portugal to turn it into habitation.

    • @Daniel_QWERTZ
      @Daniel_QWERTZ Рік тому

      The pre-1951 rule only applies on habitation-buildings on urban land. You can get an exception from habitation licence if your house is build before 1951.
      But a agricultural support building on a rustic plot is a barn and stays a barn.
      Until you change it with official planing, permission and according to the local PDM 🤷🏼‍♂️
      To make shure, ask your friendly local camara municipal, because UA-cam has made up some "rules" on its own 😅

    Great to see another video and you moving forward as always. The little and often approach is always good for mind numbing jobs like chiping the old plaster/clay from the wall. The odd hour here and there soon adds up and don't focus on the whole thing just look at a few square meters at a time, it really helps your brain. The additional window is a great bonus as adding one in those walls I would expect is either impossible or a job for an expert.

    wonderfull work, if U use a pressure washer machine of warter/sand the mud will come out easily, even if u just use a normal hose the water will break a lot of the mud, been there, blessings

    Use the dirt on the ground inside the barn and make it a Rammed Earth floor which will have a natural look, long lasting, cost effective and ECO friendly

      @@theoriginhomestead Yes please check on many videos on that on UA-cam which shows you step by step how to make it. You can even build walls, houses etc etc which are stronger than concrete. It's an ancient civilization construction method.
      If you want to send me you see guys email address or any other mode of contact and I will gladly share my knowledge on it with you as I have tried and tested it myself and I'm in the process of making a structure too

    You could always flat frame some two by ' s then add drywall. Not sure about the floor though. But anyways you wouldn't have to chip stone just go over top

    To save having to remove all the wall plaster, why don't you leave them on, batten all the 4 walls, place insulation between the battens, then plasterboard out the whole room. Much quicker and you insulate the room from cold or heat. Good luck guys - love the channel

      Hey Stevie because clay and dirt is not something that will last for ever and if you redner over it can can crack. its better to take back to original stone will last much longer. Thanks for support

    Hi guys,
    Just found your channel in the last couple of days and I am currently binge watching all the episodes. Hope it helps your bottomline.
    Anyway, it occured to me that all the random metal rods/bars Dan was finding in the walls outside may have been placed there to help support the plaster that covered the walls. Make sense? Kinda like rebar when pouring a cement slab.

    Cringe cringe cringe, I'm 77 years old. Been pushing wheelbarrows all my life, no matter what UA-cam channel I watch, nobody knows the basic. Are you ready!.You always start by placing the wheelbarrow the direction you are going to go, so you are not going to turn the barrow around when it's full, Number 2. When filling the barrow most of the weight goes over the front wheel, so you are working on balance, only a little weight is on the handles, SImple. I'm only going to the trouble of telling you two because I do enjoy what you are doing and wish I was doing it with you. Sending my fondest regards. Old Tom.xx.
