I've heard many versions of this song and though it would be hard to improve on anything Phil has done the addition of Rex's impressive guitar work really enhanced it.
O my !! Still as good as ever!! I only wish it were longer! I hope I get better with time like Phil.I dont remember many retaining such great vocal power at 70
So there was a time when Phil told a story about his song 'Sunday School', similar to 'Time' as it left you hanging, grasping for something... it made you think long after you heard it, where someone had suggested to him to wrap up the ending in a nice neat tidy evagelical happy ending. Phil rightly said no, that's not the point of the song. I'm sad to see that courage, one of the most well done next to 'Time', has disappeared in this rewrite. I got saved listening to Keith, Phil, Chuck, and Larry and this song Time was a song that gave me chills, made me think long and hard about my life, and when Phil sang with conviction, "And worst of all it's too late to turn - You must face eternity!" it was the perfect collection of words for God to work on my heart his way. The lyrics worked and are embedded in my soul to this day. While I'm never sad at the mention of Jesus, I can be sad at the way the name is used - and here we see Phil taking that years ago extremely bad advice of neat, tidy, and safe fairytale endings as a *necessity* in 'Christian Music'. Gone is the conviction and Holy terror of Eternity. 'Too late to forgive your brother' filled me with agony, but now - 'Hey, it's all OK'. The purpose of the song, like Sunday School, was to stir you, hopefully make you lose sleep. It was perhaps the best in all CCM of 'art meets message' without being another cliche. Why not rewrite every song? Lets put this tag line now at the end of every single song. Lets take away nuance, story, texture, artistry - let's just be abrupt and obvious. This is all just my opinion, but if I had heard this version when I was 20, alongside every other version of Jesus Loves Me, it would have never had the impression on me like the original. The original put me in a corner, it forced me to question many, many things, it broke me up so Jesus COULD get in, his way. A genuine life altering impact of music and message. Lets not forget the listener... I can see how the artist makes themselves feel better singing it this way, perhaps alleviating their own fears and struggles, but the songs original purpose no longer serves the listener.
Just spectacular!!! Rex added his own mark on an iconic song of Praise and Worship that I have gladly purchased on several mediums starting with record albums and cassettes. I’ve also seen Phil in so many iterations as a full band and with just his guitars and looper. I have yet to be disappointed and I am always Blessed by his music and testimony. Thanks guys! God Bless! 🙏
DUDE! That was awesome. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 ive been playing and writing for 25 years and have always loved this song. Is this the original rhythm guitarist from the earlier youtube video of this song? I always said man that poor guy you can barely hear him and he's completely shredding back there. If it's him, we heard ya this time buddy. That was completely awesome.
Can’t get over how top musicians like Phil rarely make a noticeable mistake in an entire concert. The top violinists etc can do that too but Phil is using more strings more pedals, and singing too.
I remember the first time listening to Phil Keaggy in the early 70s. This song was just out and it blew my mind as a 13yr old teen. Thank you guys for reminded me of this incredible jewel of music. Also remember meeting Phil at Estes Park Colorado when I was touring with the Cruse in the 80s. What a humble and amazing musician...my hero. The guitar playing is stellar. This is my first time to hear Rex and you are such a phenomenal player. Thanks again for sharing!
Hey Phil, if you are reading this, how about looking up Rex Carroll (formerly of White Cross). Rex Carroll, Rex Paul, Phil Keaggy with a Les Paul. Sounds pretty good to me!
This record should have been way better, than it was. Bucket-loads of talent. IMHO, the guys would have been better off, just, doing an entire record redoing older Keaggy tunes. Again, loads of talent, but, some weak song choices.
@@Looshbaby you know, you're right. It was a great song that was ruined because you changed a lyric for the sole reason to make it a more Christian sounding song. It already was. It didn't need the change. It basically ruined it.
More and more I find this song to be theologically wrong. I used to listen and buy Phils music but it is simplistic and sincerely wrong. Amazing musician if you drop the lyrics.
Phil sings like he's 30 years old, he has a very fresh and young voice!
He's amazing
This song gets played better and better, as Time goes on, like a good aged wine.
Agreed.
But one day -
... ⌛
I've heard many versions of this song and though it would be hard to improve on anything Phil has done the addition of Rex's impressive guitar work really enhanced it.
Phil's tone is amazing.
Phil's voice is so lucid and pure. A truly elevating experience.
I watchd an interview of him the other day. He was making fun of his voice saying it sounded like he is 14.. what awrsome skills!!!
Goosebumps! That song turns back TIME about 40 years to the first time I heard it!
Still does for me too, Mark!
This is the best Phil Keaggy video yet. How can he play like that at his age? Forever young my hero. Beautiful rendition.
Phil Keaggy, simply matchless.
I like how at 3:50 Phil is Wowed by his friends solo. Just shows you he is humble and also 🎶listens!
Phil is the best!
EXCELLENT RENDITION OF MY FAVORITE KEAGGY SONG!!
Thank you!
wow! I can't believe I hadn't spotted this video! thanks!
I watch this once a day along with alvin lees performance on the nite of guitars from 1988 killer work in its own time
Thank you!
I have a Les Paul like that and a Strat too, but I will never be able to play like that! Of course Phil sounded like that when he was 15
Always a great song. This version is killer. What a duo
Thanks Rick!
I am so glad you guys play for Jesus. Great and annointed.
The gift of music only reaches its full potential when it is returned to God Who gave it in praise and worship.
Only then is the circle complete.
I like his additional verse; "He died to set you free"! Keep going Phil
Thanks!
You dudes bring tears to my eyes and I'm a damn drummer!!!!
Drummers are cool!
@@rextunes I thought so too. Definitely a good drum mix for sure.
Wow. These two can hold their own with any guitarist.
Love how Phil cues the drum track by yelling "Ringo!"
love your work and your ministry
Jesus' love pours through you
Phil's tone though! Wow! National Treasure.
Absolutely. He used to have the Star of David for a truss rod cover on that Les Paul. Said he gave it to his daughter.
Phil is and always be my guitar hero.
the gift does not age it's from the spirit
Amazing! Phil is so dang diverse in his stylings, and of course, the voice has been well taken care of. You guys rocked this one🤘
Nice!
Phil Keaggy signed my Les Paul. And we sang a high note together. It was cool!
Wow! How blessed Phil keaggy voice and guitar playing skills that he had when he was young if not better!
Ol’ Rex can really rip on that six string ,and it is really a joy watching Phil have great time doing it himself 😀😀
Thanks Joe!
A killer version of this awesome by two guitar virtuosos.
Thank you!
That look Phil gives at 3:50! Rex is killing it!
He’s so great at encouragement!
This is Phil's best rendition of Time. Super production and Rex is also awesome.
Agreed
O my !! Still as good as ever!!
I only wish it were longer!
I hope I get better with time like Phil.I dont remember many retaining such great vocal power at 70
I love me some Phil. What a good brother
What an honor it would be to stand there with my guitar and watch Phil play!

Wow. Brou, thanks for this comment!!

Awesome mix guys. Made my hair stand up on my arms....
Thats a great version.

Wow, awesome to see two excellent axmen playing for Jesus Christ.

Klasse Vocal, Klasse Gitarren!!! Spitze!!!

That's fantastic!!! Glory to the Lord!
Nice. Very, very nice. I recorded in Darkhorse back in the late 90's. Good tone. Good timbre.
Loved everything about this song! Especially the message and the wonderful execution of the dueling guitars. 😎
OMG! Praise the Lord! I love you bro’s!
You need to edit your post and remove the omg. That is taking the Lord's name in vein, the opposite of what Phil and Rex are doing. Thank you.
The old guy plays like a pro!
Just wow!!
Thanks Les!
None too shabby.
Phil has been a gift from God to the church for decades. (FYI: Dr. Larry Sandberg, SLC/How The West Was One) is 92 and close to seeing Jesus.
Love it!
Thanks!!
So good like it :)
Thanks 😄
How did I miss this!!??
Mind-blowing
All I can say is WOW! You guys are on fire!!
sooooo good
Nice work, gents! Miss seeing you at McCreary’s, Rex.
BRILLIANT
Amazing!! ❤️❤️
Great theme, lyrics and guitar work 💛🙌🙏🏻
Thanks Justin!
TOP DEMAIS! 👏😮👏
Fantastic
absolutly amazing !!!!
Awesome!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
Most singers lose quality as they age but Phil has kept his, thanks to Jesus! Probably the same could be said for his guitar playing.
his voice is amazing, he doesnt get the cred for it
This video is about 10 minutes too short! Great playing and tone!
Fantastic, Thanks !
Changed the words to the end of the refrain. I like it, but maybe the two could have been used in alternation?
Sweet!
Nice. The Snazz. !
Bust'n it
More! More!
Wow again
Thanks Joe!

Thanks John R From Mike
Come to Brazil?!
I don't get it. I hear drums and bass but don't see playing.
This record should have been way better, than it was. Bucket-loads of talent. IMHO, the guys would have been better off, just, doing an entire record redoing older Keaggy tunes. Again, loads of talent, but, some weak song choices.
yes i felt torn too, though a lot of it was strong
You screwed up the song by changing the lyrics
yes, it was great as it was, it felt like a forced Christian moment
@@Looshbaby you know, you're right. It was a great song that was ruined because you changed a lyric for the sole reason to make it a more Christian sounding song. It already was. It didn't need the change. It basically ruined it.
