I really need to learn this stuff. With my boss's son moving out of state I now have the perfect opportunity to become the Diag guy at my job. For over 20 years I was content with just swapping out parts, but now I realize any first year guy can do almost all of that. Now I'm on a mission to get better. Changing out faulty parts is one thing, knowing where things went wrong, and being able to prove it is where I aim to be. It's video's like this, and all others from Trained By Techs and a bunch more here on UA-cam that give me hope. Thank you so much !!
Wow thanks Keith. This kind of feedback is what fuels us to keep doing what we do! Many of us have similar paths. Guessing works great until it doesn't! And when it doesn't, the self inflicted wounds can HURT! Test! Don't guess :)
I live in Mongolia and due to covid stuck in US for four month and since I didn’t had to do anything started watching all you guys and was so impressed the potentials without tearing down everything which is in my case in my country so learned a lot of things already bought Snap on Verus pro to take home and surely once I master the waveforms after playing around this Pico is on my next shopping list!! Thank you all for sharing with the world your knowledge!!!
Regardless of what your colleagues do, you should always strive to be the best at whatever you're doing. Doesn't matter if you're a mechanic or a chef. Focus on yourself and expanding your knowledge/abilities on whatever task you're performing. If you're boss's son is preventing you from being in a position you deserve, leave. The owner doesn't deserve to have you in that case. Simple as that. I would also highly recommend, buying a cheap laptop and an Identifix subscription. And try out a Maxiscope MP408 or MICSIG 4 channel before balling out on a Pico or eScope. Best of luck to you ✌️
Thanks for sharing guys! I have one of these in my possession right now and I wanted to Paula around with the secondary for a bit and had no clue how to hook it up! 🤦🏽♂️ The clip of channel b secondary ignition was what I was missing! Thanks Brin!!
Wow.. Great kit definitely a nice set up. Looking to get one some day. Btw, love the wrist watch Brin...noticed its out of time tho. Its should be set at 4:19 So you'll have a minute to be on time. Lol. Thanks for sharing your unboxing of the Pico. Cheers
Great work guys. It's worth trying PS7 with the new 4425A as there some extra features added in. For the clip on secondary ignition clips you'll see the option to select positive or negative fired so you can quickly flip the signal rather than having to select it from the probe menu in PS6. There's also the option to invert the signal at a touch of a button for when you get the clamp round the wrong way! Enjoy, keep up the good work and stay safe!!
THE PAIN IS REAL! I love that feature, so frustrating when battery in amp clamp goes dead. I have overnight draw example and as battery goes dead the output to the scope went up.. 4425A would solve that!
Looks like the new mopar scope. No one in my dealership knows how or when to scope things. I want to be the better diagnose guy at my dealership! Subbed and will keep watching love your videos
Great video Brin, thanks for the shout-out 👍 when I heard you say you'll pass it around the other TBT guys, I chuckled, you won't, it's Gollum and the ring syndrome. 4425A is a game changer for new users as far as setup hurdles - they all went away 😁 With the beta Pico7 software there's more functionality and it's optimised for touchscreen and fat fingers. Stay safe, see you all soon ✈️
Came back to watch again Brin...Great stuff here. I think you explained everything very well. Definitely worth the watching again. So, it sound like a bad lifter eating the cam. Did you get the clearance for tear down to find out exactly what was toast.? Very interesting for sure. (: Thanks for sharing your knowledge bro. Cheers
This is a brilliant demonstration. You did a fantastic job explaining all of that. Thank you for taking the time, and putting so much effort into this. Five star diagnostics. I'm just curious what you found wrong with the #6 intake valve?
I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one of these, which will happen in next few months. Also want to get the UTest Master Terminal Kit once it’s back in stock. AESWave rocks.
The repair and/or tear down was unfortunately declined. As you probably are aware, either events are fairly common on these engines. In our experience, Everytime we've torn one apart, it needed a cam due to the damage a collapsed lifter caused.
Niall, Thank you so.much for the question. I apologize for not mentioning the green trace. It is intake manifold pressure but I used a delta pressure sensor and the red trace from the earlier capture was an intake manifold pressure capture using an absolute pressure sensor (Pico WPS500X). It is not inverted. I should've spent some time on that but I didn't want to push my luck time wise. I already felt sheepish that the video was 43 minutes long.
I had an exact same problem on a 2010 silverado. Turned out to be a bad lifter and nylon lifter block that is supposed to keep the lifter roller in place. What was really odd was this same cylinder had 165 psi compression with a standard compression tester. Removed the valve cover and inspected the valve train while turning engine over by hand. Everything seemed okay until we started the engine with the valve cover off. No movement on number 6 cylinder intake valve at all. Damndest thing i'd ever seen
Wow..an awesome diag and exelent explanation....unfortunately for me it was to much information and towards the end it ended like blah blah blah...lol. I think i will have to watch this 2 or 3 times for it to sink in... Top stuff and thanks for sharing
@@TrainedbyTechs I'm saying the Autel is more advanced than the Pico with its Bluetooth interface and Wi-Fi for c network there's no other scope out there like it

Keith Black it starts with the right attitude, which you clearly have. Stick with it and you’ll get to where you want to be.

Great video fellas! That scope looks impressive! And tell Brin not to be so hard on himself with the video! It was good and informative! haha

I can’t afford the money for a pico scope. I guess I’m stuck with my $100 Hantek 1008c.

Thank you for all the info with the Pico.
Extremely thoroughly explained Brin!
Was it the lifter collapsing or cam lobe done for?
The repair and/or tear down was unfortunately declined. As you probably are aware, either events are fairly common on these engines. In our experience, Everytime we've torn one apart, it needed a cam due to the damage a collapsed lifter caused.
36 minutes in are we still looking at inlet manifold pressure on the green trace and is it inverted.
Niall,

Could you do more of those waveforms explanation. You and Super Mariodiagnostics doing that really in depth
If I am not mistaken this new scope does not use a plug in attenuator, it is built in.
Precio del Picoescop de 4canales??
So could be collapse lifter bent push rod or cylinder Deactivation stuck open or flat cam ... ie a Physical failure

Well done! I like your way of explaining!
great job guys.
let me know where you bought this pico
its got nice features but i've seen those contacts on other things and can tell you they will be trouble. maybe not now but before long they will be.
advance kit?
Yes! The link to this exact kit is in the description
The high amp clamp is dual mode

What would you have done different?
