I believe you dude, seeing as the pair of you were virtually wetting yourselves for most of the video, this is definitely a mood lifting video, made me laugh a few times 😂
That's the most Wellington video ever - craft beer, windy roads, electric motorbikes. I've test ridden one. If I didn't have the Light Bee and a Stark on order then I'd be very tempted. They are amazingly quiet and the build quality is streets ahead.
Fantastic bikes. Awesome to see them more and more in the streets of Wellington. If they could get to 70 - 80 kmph I would instantly swap my vstrom commuter for a streetdog (I live in Upper Hutt).
Yeah man! My buddy actually rode from Lyall Bay all the way over the Rimutakas to Featherston on a single charge, so they can make it, but it would take hours. They're really fun bikes but I hope their next model is bigger and can go over 100km/h for highway commuting.
This is exactly proving the point that you don't need a bike that can do 300km/h to have fun. More speed and power isn't always "better". Anyway, wonderful bikes, wonderful vid, keep it up!! 🤘🤘
So much cool art at all these Beer spots, what up with that. These seem like such nice, simple commuter bikes, perfectly fine for weekend fun rides or riding to work.
I just heard about this bike & company this morning in one of those "affordable E-bikes for 2024" YT vids. When the NZ connection was mentioned, I said " I wonder if Sam knew anything about them?". Dude you did NOT DISAPPOINT. Good work and thanks.
It was because of your first video, I decided to test ride one myself. As good as they are, I was just too big for them. Still fun though. And FTN - great name!
Yeah, nice bikes, those, and have to agree it's great to be able to support your local businesses, especially when they build something so cool. Definitely strike me as ideal commuters and local runarounds. You were both clearly having far too much fun! ☺️
I love the design of those little things! Unfortunately, I don't see them succesfully competing in Europe with all the speed pedelecs (e-bikes with assistance up to 45 km/h). Those things can avoid traffic by using dedicated bike highways here. Maybe a future version with an 11 kW motor? You can ride those in Western Europe with a car license, and with that kind of power it would keep up with highway traffic. Something like the Zero S or FXE, but less expensive. Now there's a business opportunity... Also: yay for Jen's cheerful nature, as always.
Fantastic video of you and Jen having a ball. Glad to see local NZ business manufacturing this. 10 days and I'll be in NZ. Can't wait but the month will go to fast. Thanks for the video and great scenery Sam.
Great video and some good looking and practical ebikes. With 3kW they should be able to top around 65Km/h. Love hub motors but with my own 8kW hub motor bike and no liquid or forced air cooling they can overheat quickly. The price is kinda understandable but limiting. My conversion was around AU$10k (4 years ago) incl. the certification and a 6.5kWh LFP battery. Absolutely love the total quietness...just the wind.....
Wow, that's an unbeatable price right there. It's also more valuable because you put in the work. Hopefully we get some more options with similar specs. Those seem like perfect commuters!
@@NewZeroland If they do that'd be awesome. I see so many of these "cool electric bikes under $X" videos, but half of them never make it over here or they have a projected date of 2034.
cool video as always. as someone who built an enduro ebike i find a lot of similar parts in that bike(mine is actually more powerful but i like the styling) anyway i won't be trading my energica anytime soon(especially after i just got it back fixed)
Nice! Yeah it's a different world, for sure. These can't be compared to Energicas at all haha, but for riding short distances around cities, they're a blast.
They are a fun little bike and I have ridden one twice. I bet this will get more people into motorcycles, but I prefer to be able to keep ahead of the traffic, not limited to 50kph when the cars around me are doing 55-66 Kph in a 50 zone.
Great review, and good to see y'all getting up Raroa Rd at a reasonable speed - I was wondering how they handled the hills. Now searching the back of the couch to see if I can find enough coins....
Oh yeah, they get up to speed really quick and then hit this invisible wall because of the moped laws. The power is there though 😁 Smiles per mile are unbeatable!
I love the MotoGadget bar lights! But my real question is: how many of those batteries can you fit in the storage compartment? Because now if you can fit two in there you can actually tour further, or know you have a complete backup to get you back home. That'd be awesome!
Awesome video, looks like a lot of fun. I'd love to try something out like that though those would be unfortunately very impractical in the US as anywhere except the most back street areas you'd always be bumping up against the limited speed. Hope their business does well and really takes off enough to do something like a rental battery vending kind of deal. Unfortunately my days as a Zero owner have come to an unexpected end as my SR was stolen three weeks ago. Not trusting the ignition you could turn over with a bobby pin I had it fully insured and still made quite a profit on it. While I waited for that I happened across a deal too good to pass up on an 2019 Enerigica. I really wanted the faired model but there aren't many affordable options so $6.9k for a EVA 107 and a few hundred extra to get it shipped over 4k km across the country I should have my new EV bike in the next couple of weeks. Reading through the owners manual the prior owner shipped with the keys and title I'm honestly pretty stoked.
Nooo Spike!! Man that's so sad to hear, but I'm glad this story has a happy ending. How did you find an Eva 107 for $6.9k??? That's such a score!! I'm really excited for ya :D
Thanks! Yeah, it was one of those things I've been scouring the salvage auctions for the last couple of years and missed a wrecked 22 Zero SR/S that I think went super cheap locally only a couple of months back, but pretty much started looking to fill the EV motorcycle hole in my stable right away so put a watch on eBay for a few bikes the one I bought the owner listed it for 13k, then dropped it to 10, then 7.9 and a few hours later sent me an offer for 6.9... I was like "I don't think I can find a wrecked one this cheap so I'll figure out how to move it 4,000km" it looks to be in pristine condition basically ridden 5,000km in California then moved to Ohio two years ago and now has still less than 6,000km. I'm going to miss the tank storage, the lightweight frame and flickable skinny 300cc style tires, maybe the belt drive, but I won't miss so many other things about it to be honest. For example I gave up trying to keep the firmware up to date with their buggy app I feel they wrote on Windows Vista and never updated. So looking forward to the future and having a second Italian super bike.
Bike looks real cool and I would consider getting one, but 50k/hr limit renders it pretty useless for me living in Melbourne suburbs. Would love a version that would allow me to go 70/hr so I could actually use it around the suburb roads.
i'd love a bike like this to run local errands with. looks sweet. looks easy to ride. huge storage. easy to maneuver. easy to charge because of the removable battery. small enough for my short legs lol. are they planning to ship internationally?
I think so, yep! I'll keep my eye on the company as they grow and make an update video someday if/when they start selling in the US. You need a tiny ninjass mobile!!

Beautifully built bike and fairly priced. Would be great if FTN could partner with business establishments every 50km or so to stock charged batteries, that a rider could pay to swap, a la gogoro style. With that in place, I could see Streetdogs potentially becoming an increasingly popular way to travel across NZ. All it would take are some batteries and friendly folks along the way!
@@evolv.e right?? Dominos uses electric motorcycles to deliver pizzas. I'm sure FTN could supply these for similar uses. They'd be perfect for Uber Eats or whatever. If they could go faster, I'd love to set up a string of battery swap locations and attempt an Iron Butt on one haha.
If you are checking out local motorcycles you should reach out to Switch motorcycles and try out the 12,000$ scrambler. I would love to see a video on it.
And guess what? I bet you could carry an extra battery in that compartment. If not, they must redesign it, so that it could fit one. Maybe two? 😮 Ok.ok. I won't get too greedy.🤘

Less chance of the bar-end indicators being damaged in a fall/crash?
That's a good idea. I think they have a solution to it, and for UK laws I think they may have to be different.
Could it possibly hold two extra battery packs in pannier boxes with an extension lead?
It can!! You can put a second battery in the storage compartment and double the range.
