On Sept. 20, 1974, I made the only hole-in-one of my life on #17 at Bethpage Black. I remember it like it was yesterday!
My hardest was Whistling Strait’s right in the middle of a handful of incredible courses in the middle of Pete Dye’s beautiful works in Wisconsin. The Bull - A Nicklaus course, Black wolf Run, the Irish course etc….
Just played there a month ago. We played The Bull, Whistling, The River then Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes. Unbelievable week of golf
Bethpage black is brutal, the Royal County Down is a masterpiece.
☝🏼
The Pete Dye Course at French Lick, Indiana is worthy of mention too. I seem to recall that the 2019 Senior LPGA tournament there had a cut-line after two days of about +15. Gorgeous course but you're always about to fall off the mountains it's built upon.
Pete Dye can design a mean course can’t he! I wonder if Larry Bird plays that course often as it’s in his home town.
@@GolfWeekly, I knew Pete in his closing months of life, and he was proud of the Dye-abolical nature of many of his courses.
Rip Pete 🙏
Man...these look crazy! Very cool.
Glad you like them!
Never played any of these. The most spectacular course I have played is quintero golf club in Arizona. It's tough and beautiful.
Haha the first coarse in Hawaii I tried and it was hard! Thanks for the vid
Super tough golf course! Such a fun experience though
Hardest course I've played is the Greg Norman designed Brookwater Country club west of Brisbane Australia. I haven't travelled far but this course is undulating though natural bushland. I found it difficult because of its tight fairways and slick greens. Also, on the day I played, you didn't need to venture far off the fairways to find knee high rough and impossible lies. The course is home to WTA world number 1 Ash Barty, the current women's club champion.
👍🏼
Royal “Country” Down? And ‘Tom Doaack?’ Love these computer generated voices
I’ve played two courses on this list: Whistling straits (multiple times) and the ocean course at Kiawah. The ocean course is significantly overrated in its difficulty. Like most Dye designs, they’re visually intimidating but once you get past that and hit your lines, you can play fairly well. There are plenty of other courses more difficult than the ocean course.
Whistling straits is difficult-truly. There’s a lot of visual intimidation but also the lines are ‘uncomfortable’ at times. And if the wind blows, it’s a beast. But there’s a more difficult course in the same resort at Whistling Straits-it’s the River course at Blackwolf run. Any of the pros at the complex will tell you off the record that the River course is a couple shots harder than Whistling straits. And it’s 15 minutes away. And…..they’ve actually softened it a bit over the years and it’s still just a nutcracker.
Yeah, the country down thing got to me, too. Almost left the video but glad I stayed.
I've played Whistling Straits and actually birdied one hole (and absolutely duffed the rest). Almost got a "sheep in one" coming out of one of the 6 billion bunkers, as the sheep were wandering the course that day. Played Black Wolf the next day and that could be on this list as well.
I would give honorable mention to Old Head of Kinsale in Ireland here. Beautiful but intimidating.
It’s not Royal Country Down as mentioned on the video… Royal County Down. It’s the most difficult course I’ve ever played… but amazingly nice, if you like to get beaten up for 18-holes.
great list, would have had Oakmont somewhere and Carnoustie is harder than 9th
We didn’t try to do this in any particular order, so we apologize if it came off that way! Yes, we will be doing a part 2, and Oakmont will for sure be on that list
I want to play the one in Hawaii. 🤩 wow!
be there, or be square.
I heard its closing down sadly
Great video
🙏🏼
Wow the last course is beautiful
Yep Cape Kidnappers is unlike any other course in the world. Stunningly Beautiful, yet terrifying 😍😳
Never heard of Royal Country Down.!!!!!Must be a new one.!!!!
Great Vid, where is Pine Valley. Only played Whistling Straits and it is a beast.
From what I gather you’re more likely to play Augusta National than Pine Valley, but that course looks like an absolute bruiser. Would love a shot at it.
The hardest golf course in the world is the one that I’m playing today. LOL
Played Trump International in Palm Beach and it was beautiful and deadly.
👍🏼
The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom in Texas is the toughest I've played. Never played any of these....I've seen the Ocean course at Kiawah in SC and gosh it looked terrifying.
as someone from Charleston who's played it: fuck... the...wind. I have zero clue as to how the hell Rory was double digits under par after 4 rounds there...NONE
Big shout out to RCD
Those are some nice courses!
I think so too!
Wolf Creek in the wind beat my arse..
Same here! The greens were dry too and they had the pins on slopes. So it was virtually impossible to score
The National in Canada……record 67 by Trevino
The Plantation Golf Course at Kapalua, Maui.
Awesome Vid🤙🏼.....Giveaway😊
👍🏼🏌️🎟
The only thing Carnasty can do to stop low scores is have knee high rough in high winds. The pros length ruins it otherwise.
👍🏼
I'm lucky enough to call Bethpage State park my backyard basically, and the Black Course is fucking hard :)
Very hard course. As long as you go into the round knowing you are going to get your butt kicked then it’s all about enjoying the experience
@@GolfWeekly always
Played the championship course at Carnoustie and I shot an 84 🏴🏴🏴
Good playing! 84 on that course is about a 74 on a normal course
Golf Weekly in the courses defence it was unbelievably calm no wind at all..... worst thing is I’ve only played golf for months 🥴 but it was a stunning course!
played the burnside and had an 88 , walked round championship and I think I would sort that out quite easy 😂
@@stephenmacdonald76 the 245 par 3 16th into a 20mph head wind is crazy lucky when I played there was no wind lol
@@rosscowan3612 yeah I walked that with the dog doing it as if playing it, it's amazing how good you are with no clubs, I can't wait to play it
Macrahanish dunes in the wind. Good luck
✅
Arrowhead in Colorodo
Agree. Very tough one
Canterwood Country club, WA state
FYI Carnoustie is not in the south east of Scotland
🙏🏼
You say these courses are hard? I say bring it on. They all look fun.
They are amazing and difficult. Just know you won’t shoot your all time low at any of these locations
Hardest course I’ve played is probably the old corckscrew in Estero Florida
We have heard that course a couple times now in comments. Might have to do part 2 of the series and add the Corcskrew...as well as Winged Food where the PGA pros are getting absolutely beat up today.
Golf Weekly courses in Florida Are very similar but this one stands alone. I believe the course record is 70 or 69. It’s an insane course.
@@GolfWeekly The Screw is definitely a brutal coarse !!!
Prairie Dunes in a 25 mph wind
💨
Pine Valley and Oakmont?
We will be doing another video and those 2 courses are at the top of the list
You forgot Pine Valley, just outside of Philadelphia
Extremely difficult
It's not Royal COUNTRY Down but it's Royal County Down.😁
🤷🏼♂️
@@GolfWeekly Tom Doak, like in coke, not DOUGH-ak...
@@boydhorning1830 we got rid of the voice over specialist as he didn’t know how to pronounce a lot of golf phrases and names. Trust us, it’s fixed
Carnoustie harder than Royal Aberdeen?
Pecan Hollow in Plano, Tx
Tough track for sure!
@@GolfWeekly HaHa!
@@jayhamilton2915 for us that is. But any golf course is
No way......I'm from Collin County but moved to Fort Worth. Where is that?
@@jamestepera3356 Just a little humor
I played that course on Kiawah Island...I was way over my head! Smdh
I am pretty sure 99.99 % of people are in the same boat as you when they play. Really tough
@@GolfWeekly I was shell shocked and intrigued at the same time. Is that possible? 😂😂
What’d you shoot?
Just played today... brutal but beautiful!!!
I've played a couple of the others on the island and they were tough enough.
The hardest course I have played.....My local Par 3
😂
Carnoustie was brutal
Tiger shot under on all
He's the best in the world, and probably ever...do you expect anything different?
No he didn’t. Please check your facts. In the 1999 Open Woods was 10 OVER par for 4 rounds at Carnoustie. I have played all of the US courses mentioned from the tips at well as RCD and Carnoustie. For me, Carnoustie, from the Open tees, was the toughest by far.
Pine Valley is harder than all of these, by a bit..
Try Ko olau in hawaii!! 173 slope rating.
This should be called Don't be these Guys on the Course. I mean the douchey level just pops doesnt it?
👍🏼
Tom Doak is pronounced Tom "Doke"...smh
We got a new voice over person who knows how to pronounce words
