I have not heard this video until today and I agree, it is playing at the top of his game. I have seen other live clips of this group line-up playing and it certainly seems that they gelled well together and the music just flows.
Indeed. I've been watching this at half speed for about three days trying to work out what he's doing. Maintaining alternate picking at that speed for so long without one single mistake is awe inspiring. Then of course there's the great final solo...
@@kvothe6627 Flattered that you ask. :-) I'm pretty useless at tabbing. What I can say is that it's probably easier to learn this one just by watching and listening. Mostly arpeggios over three chords with just a few ornaments and trills thrown in. The only really hard thing is cross picking at that speed! :-D
This man is the most under appreciated British Artist of the last 50 years....He even did the Olympic Opening Ceremony playing a "Latin Christmas Carol" in July!!!!! He will never be truly appreciated by the wider public until he is gone, lucky we know better and can appreciate him while he is still with us.

Only s/he who notices how a simple riff turns subtly into a miraculous solo can truly appreciate what a genius Mike Oldfield is. Both as composer and instrumentalist.
Mike is a genius! The first CD I bought when I was a child was "Crises" (1983) in 1990...I love every album, every song he wrote! But Mike isn't on a "Best guitarists" list??!!! That's a crime!
@@paulmarty6163 I'm having a go at it. The notes themselves seem fairly simple - starts with Eb major... the bastard thing is the speed of the alternate picking and the little ornaments between the arpeggios. Otherwise it's just doing the manic Oldfield style over 3 or 4 chords :-)

For me it is always fascinating to see how Mike plays so concentrated. North Star is a brilliant masterpiece, with all the different live versions he could fill a CD. TOP!
That is some serious skill with the rythm guitar. Sounds and looks easy enough, but try it. Oldfield has, and is still, composing the soundtrack of my life.
Can never understand WHY ! Mike Oldfield NEVER gets the recognition he really deserves , me I am a real MO fan , he is a composer & a great musician & has produced many classic pieces of wonderful music , truly one of the great British musical talents

so true
Agreeeeeeeee
he can play more than 20 musical instruments
Never get tired of his music listening to the same songs over and over. Can’t say that about any other musician
No doubt.
Mike Oldfield - a true musical genius.
This is the definitive version of "North Star". I can never tire of hearing this.

For all the non-guitar players, the rhythm Mike is playing is just from another world and not easy to play.

I'm sure he has already heard that more than once--Richard Branson, for one, ought to have told him since he got rich by publishing Mike's work.
Mike Oldfield and Maggie Reilly always evergreen for me
That is some truly wonderful rhythm guitar playing.
My First introduction to Mike was that song "Five Miles Out"... Many years ago..Since then Im hooked.

I was there!
Outstanding absolute world class! And Simon Phillips on the drums!!! Fan in Germany at the end of May 2020, since this days until now!!!
Was Simon Phillips the percussion player with the curly hair? I remember that the main drummer was Morris (sp? Maurice?) Pert.
That is not Simon Philips...
Definately Morris Pert on the kit. Pierre Moerlen on percussion?
So simple, so genius, 😊😊
One of my favourite pieces of music
@3:15, the pick goes up to the mouth and the fingers play magic. Unbelievable. And @3:42 a little bit of Incantations creeps in. Luv it!
