You are a genious. No more. I am very grateful to you. I'm only sorry I didn't see you live and I had tickets for the Night of the Proms in Madrid in 2007, but my daughter gave birth the same day (03/30) and I gave my ticket to a brother-in-law.
Merci Mike, j'ai suivi tes concerts dès l'âge d e18 ans... tu m'as fait rever, mille mercis !!!!!
Great lesson of bass.....! ! !

Mike Oldfield should play this again soon. This is a phenomenal track for live performances.
Stripe shirt guy rocks!
Spalding❤❤❤
great video. great music, great performers. congrats to the poster.
Phil Spalding, great bass player
I went to the Platinum tour Concert in Sheffield the same year at the city hall. I was right at the back but when I look at the speakers on stage they were pointing right at me I had a Great Night.
I'm glad you liked the concert but this video was recorded in 1984 on the Discovery tour. The Platinum tour was 1980.
❤️
❤❤❤😊😊😊
Magistral. Un placer para los oidos.
Eh oh ah!!! Its the main theme of five miles out!! Mike on the speed of the run!! Fan since the seventies!!! Amities du Allemagne!!!
My favourite album.
Barry & Maggie 🌺
I fully agree with You. I met his great music in 1981 (period of QE2) and I was totally amazed. You can't imagine how many times I heard Taurus 1.
In my opinion, "Five Miles Out" from '82 is also absolutely amazing in that time - with its beautiful sounds.
That year he became the "Number one" in the Bass Guitar Magazin voting as a bass player of the world. ( reply part 1of 2)
There should be a CD available with all North-Star varieties he´s done. Pure virtuosity!
Do i see the incredible Simon Phillips on drums?!! Fantastic!!
+Jules Schneiders Indeed you do!! :)
+Mr Blackrose Simon and Phil Spalding had just worked together for a couple of years with Toyah. Great team!
Yes, Simon played on Mike's albums "Crises" and "Discovery" and also co-produced them.
Indeed ... we see SUPER SIMON performing with MAJESTIC MIKE. What a Formidable Team !!!
Interestingly, the equally BRILLIANT PHIL COLLINS played Drums on Mike's QE2 Album released in 1980.
Una joya de concierto, saludos.
Mike, only Mike...
@tibmikeo Great music. My favourite albums are Ommadawn and Platinum (along with Tubular Bells. Incantations is just perfect.
Great video. great music!!!!!!
4:11 - 4:56 Amazing...
Finland thanks England! Fanny music in the middle of a cold northern winter!
I love Maggie Reilly's voice so much.
Gran voz Mally❤❤❤❤
This tune is so bad ass yet I still have a hard time giving rockers in jogging sweats my full attention. Oof it's too good though wow. 2024
My personal opinion is: Incantations. Never heard so GREAT music like this. This is the GREATEST for me. I think all the lyrics he selected are beautiful. I adore it.. Waiting for his works always...
These are only my personal feelings.. all comments are appreciated,
tib
Incantations is hynotizing over all 4 sides. Never tire of listening to it and always get's me in a very calm mood after a stressful day.
Talking of Incantations, Charleston is actually a variation on the vibraphone tune from Incantations Part 4. Both Incantations and Platinum are among my favorite albums ever.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
brilliant piece
The great Phil Spalding on bass.
That’s Mike Oldfield that is playing the bass then switches to guitar.
@@ericfaley9019 Spalding was the bassplayer.
Un gran músico
@raverdeath100
Yes, i agree with You, the version on that compilation album is a really great one. Mike's figerpicking guitar riffs are amazing... It would be nice to have a video version of that performance...
Philip Glass deserves a mention here!
musical genius
great version. gotta say tho', my favorite version will always be the one on " the complete MIKE OLDFIELD " double album.
Have you seen the 1982 Montreau Performance???
yes simon phillips on drums. i don't believe that. just perfect
You must be a time traveller to know something about this absolute fabulous world class music of the great Mike and his squad "Schabeldabadub"!!!
Great 👍😊
@GoldBug78
HI!
I have a friend on this TV channel. And one party night (hahahaha) me friend at last say me YES to me request about these video from 1984 on my city,
Some years, but at last I have the video.
This history is a lot years ago
Gracias, eskerrik asko!!! Te pasas sss ke gozada!!
He is also among the ones who had used Fairlight CMI on keyboard area for first time. (Remember Five Miles Out and Crises from '83.)
I like him for his 5 finger fingerpicking guitar style.. but as a producer, a great guitarist, a bassist and a keyboardist we should call him rather a "real musician" than a "virtuose".
Taste, technique - it's always there.
It's the 2nd part of 3.
Saw him live in 82 for the 1st time (Five Miles Out Tour) with Rick Fenn, Tim Renwick, Tim Cross, Pierre Moerlen, Morris Pert, Maggie Riley and the Fairlight CMI. Today I prefer this to the Discovery tour, cause there's been more live playin.
When he put his hands on the guitar...
Yes, it was a really fabulous instrument at that time. My favourite synth sound from the 80's is the complex Fairlight/Oberheim/PPG Wave stuff from Mike..
Cheers,
tib
I have the Fairlight only parts from this tour on CD.
Los pelos de punta. Qué maravilla.
I’ve watched Platinum from 81 at Montreux Jazz Festival and it was based a harder rock edge. I heard a version from 1980 from Wembley stadium. That version had a lot or orchestra built into it. This version has more a bass line toward disc and then the Fender Strat has the country twang. I prefer the S.G with the single P90.
He never played Wembley STADIUM. There were several Wembley venues, smaller ones.
....a genius one ....o parere doar ....
MONSTER!!!
GREAT
RIP Phil Spalding.🙏🏻
yeah Mike should at least have every single tour represented by at least 1 DVD.
I am always curious to know exactly what synths were used by Mickey Simmonds in this concert. I know for sure that a Fairlight CMI was definitely used along with probably a Roland VP 330 and a Prophet 5, Yamaha DX7 and Oberheim OB Xa and maybe even a PPG Wave synth. However I still can't exactly workout the identity of the top synth on Simmonds's synth rack. It looks like a cross between an ARP Odyssey and another Oberheim perhaps? Come to think of it, it looks like 1 of the Crumar orchestral poly synths from the late 1970s.
ehhh star platinum
Boah, flashing my breath away...
@manprogrock
Thanks for Your words m8. Glad to see You like it... :-)
tib
Mike great musician and very handsome !!
On my list of people I want to meet BEFORE I die
love to see peeps rockin' in sweat pants
Une bête de scène ce Mike... Comme Mark Knoffler
Fantastic Video The Quality is perfect. Better as any Viareggio Video on youtube.
Is there a chance to get the full concert from Donostia on video?
@Craigevansagain
Let's hope he'll play and we'll see this great stuff once again.. As i read, a new collaboration album is almost ready and it will be released in feb. 2013. It's called "Tubular Beats", and contains a brand new track (Never Too Far - featuring Tarja Turunen) and many more re-recorded and remixed tracks co-produced with his friend York.

If you can play more than 20 instruments and compose eternal music, then he's the best. At least for me.
the hole album is my freind :)
👍
ORA!!
Flipo
what are they playing at the start 00:00 to 3:25 ?
Third track from the Platinum LP. It's called Charleston.
philip glass :) north star
DE NADA POR EL VÍDEO!
ya costó que os enterarais...
Yes, but what happened to the vocals ? Barry Palmer was totally out of tune here.... He ruined the whole song. Maggie tried to protect her ears.....
der Vokal (ab 5:58) ist teilweise unerträglich falsch!!!
north star is incredibly amazing... anyway, not glad to say that but barry palmer ruined it this time.
vaya desafine se voces al final
Oh no no no, do not let that man sing again on stage... He's so out of tune.
I have to say, the vocals weren't that good here.
pity the singers are faltering
The male singer sounds tone deaf
