I've just re-visited this after a year and have to say that I've nothing more to add to my last comment - they are STILL brilliant! I've heard no version as good as this, and I've looked, believe me!
This ensemble version of this group is stupendous, but it should be noted that there is an insane amount of musical talent with these folks. They are all multi-instrumental and all sing with fine country voices. I have seen all four of them plying the violin together at the same time, the mandolin player playing the banjo and guitar, the fiddler playing the banjo and guitar, the bass player playing the fiddle and the rhythm guitarist playing the fiddle. I feel that Reeb, which is beer spelled backwards (father's influence???) is the least respected, but she puts down a very solid rhythm base to the groups music. They are just a so fine a group!!!
I just listened to a bunch of versions of this great tune, and these guys win hands down. Rock solid rhythm from the ladies and they're all having such a good time.
Golden Slippers chorus: Oh, them golden slippers Oh, them golden slippers Golden slippers I'm goin' to wear Because they look so neat Oh, them golden slippers Oh, them golden slippers Golden slippers I'm goin' to wear To walk the golden street verses: Oh, my golden slippers am laid away 'Cause I don't expect to wear 'em til my wedding day And my long tailed coat, that I love so well I will wear up in the chariot in the morn And my long white robe that I bought last June I'm goin' to get changed 'cause it fits too soon And the old grey hoss that I used to drive I will hitch him to the chariot in the morn (chorus) Oh, my old banjo hangs on the wall 'Cause it ain't been tuned since way last fall But the folks all say we'll have a good time When we ride up in the chariot in the morn There's ol' brother Ben and his sister, Luce They will telegraph the news to uncle Bacco Juice What a great camp meetin' there will be that day When we ride up in the chariot in the morn (chorus) So, it's good-bye, children I will have to go Where the rain don't fall and the wind don't blow And yer ulster coats, why, you will not need When you ride up in the chariot in the morn But your golden slippers must be nice and clean And your age must be just sweet sixteen And yourr white kid gloves you will have to wear When you ride up in the chariot in the morn
I would occasionally hear this song on old western tv shows, but never knew the title. I thought it was golden glimmers. I found out by accident what it was not too long ago. After decades of wondering.
"Guitar work"? All she does is play basic rhythm, no breaks, no melody, just 3 or 4 chords over and over. Mandolin and fiddle play really fancy melody. No insult meant; as a guitarist, I simply disagree with you. Nothing wrong with what she does; she just doesn't do much guitar-wise. She's a good singer, and rhythm guitarist.
@@harrytoyshirt4146 maybe watch and listen for her playing the lead tune in time with the others on occasions. Ive worked with heaps of guitarists that cant strum that fast even for half a gig.
I’ve been trying to figure this out since I first heard this song, what are they saying right after old uncle been and sister Lucy? I cannot find the lyrics anywhere, and can not understand for the life of me, please somebody help
