  • Newland Furnace Pig-Iron store - A structural record.
    With the property owners permission given both to video record and to publish the footage taken, I herein record the structural particulars, peculiarities and features of the pig-iron store before it soon after becomes adapted for domestic habitation space.
    The pig-iron store is a space immediately adjacent to the casting floor of the iron furnace where pig iron was 'banked up' and stored until such time as it was due to be shipped out to the various customers around the country. The pig iron was typically transported from here to either Hammerside Hill, Greenodd port, or to the Ulverston canal (from 1796 and later) for onward shipping out of the district.
    Thanks for watching.
    Footage filmed 31/3/2019 on;
    Camera 1; Sony Handycam HDR-CX240E,
    Camera 2; Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker,
    and edited using VideoPad Professional Home Edition v6.00.

    Very interesting good sir. The notches in the large beam at the end of video suggest that in its previous life it was probably the other side up and the notches supported beams for a floor, perhaps in a barn. Seasonal greetings from Australia.

      Thank you kind Sir. Now then, when you suggest the beam was probably the other way up originally, do you mean from where I am standing? or from where you are standing? - ie down under - with you looking upsy-downy ways - hahahaha.
      Yes, I am sure you are correct re the beam, it has indeed been re-purposed, likely from a structure just as you suggest. Thank you for watching, and all the very best for the coming new year. Goodonya, and Kind regards.

      Oh gosh, I had forgot that someone already knew about that. I've got tons of footage, and it'll be a long job to edit through it all, also, I was going to wait until all the new development work had settled down a bit - sort of thing. But it is good that you should remind me, thank you. I'll maybe get onto it next winter. Kind regards.
