    We went to the green way in Jefferson Barracks, to see 4014. As looking north all the kiddos from Notre Dame school were out there trackside cheering very loudly. What a great experience.

    A cool mention of the Gateway Western! I grew up in Glasgow, MO and saw the Gateway Western yard in Slater, MO quite often. I always thought as a kid that the black and gold colors were because our school was black gold!

    I live in Harrisburg Illinois. The Egyptian line was started by the Big Four. Then it went to NYC, PC, Conrail, and eventually was sold to NS who deactivated it in the 80s. It had been turned into a trail now and runs along hwy 45 in Harrisburg. Where the Hardee's sits now is where the passenger depot was in Harrisburg, it was demolished in the 70s, passenger service ended in the 60s.

    I was at the diamond between the Jonesboro and Memphis subdivisions at Fair Oaks, Arkansas on Saturday 9/14/24. When the BIG BOY crossed the diamond, it felt like an earthquake for a few moments.

    Fellows just think what the UP had to do prior to its run from Wyoming to Chicago and then to St Louis before heading back to Wyoming! The logistics of this is overwhelming! No can not say that the UP really doesn’t help the hobby of Model Railroading! Love the UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD!!!!!!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    A Cryogenic Liquid Tank Car is designed to transport Cryogenic liquid materials belonging to all divisions of hazard class 2. DOT Division 2.1 is Flammable Gas, Division 2.2 is Non-Flammable, non=toxic gas (under pressure, inert) and Division 2.3 is for Toxic Gas.

      Cryogenic tank cars are referred to as “tank-within-a-tank. They consist of an inner tank constructed of stainless steel contained within an outer steel tank (not a jacket). The space between the tanks has a vacuum drawn, with the inner tank insulated with an alternating wrap of multiple layers of aluminum foil and paper. Older cars used perlite. The cars are referred to as Thermos bottle cars. They may have a design service temperature of as low as minus 423 degrees F.
      Information on contemporary tank cars can be found in the AAR’s Field Guide to Tank Cars-4th Edition, available online.
      This is your tank car lesson for today.

    Why are they running a diesel loco behind the big boy ? Extra power or in case of a problem?

    • @JamesRegiersModels
      @JamesRegiersModels 2 місяці тому

      Backup power in emergencies, extra brakes, and range extension for the Big Boy. If the diesel is helping to pull the train, then the Big Boy can expend less fuel and water.

    I wonder if the dated fonts Michael C Kelly is using for his upcoming books are chosen on purpose, to make the link to the previous century, or he just choose them because he liked it. Personally, I don't think it is the right choice, as they give the impression of being second hand books. With all respect, just trying to help.
