Craig, I completely understand your excitement over the Mustang. It's a once very common, mass produced car you'd see everywhere. Now? Not so common. Plus it is rough around the edges, but solid enough to improve & have some fun with. Parts & pieces are plentiful and overall won't bankrupt you fixing, restomodding and improving.
I have a '17 GT350 and '76 Valiant in the garage. You know which pulls people down the alley to the back garage? The old, malaise, beige, V8 Plymouth. They can relate to it. Nostalgia. Little things I do are easily seen (it's very clean & solid- no rot, the interior isn't ripped or cracked all to Hell). It's unusual.
    That Mustang? Same thing

My favorite all-around car I own? A '99 Regal GS that was a PGA/SeaFair Promo car & bought it straight from GM. Comfortable, very good highway mileage, good trunk space (there is a strut tower bar in there, however), parts aren't crazy, it's surprisingly quick (not stock, but not stupid crazy) and it's just a rock. Loved the SHO, but the look of the '99 killed it for me.

there's a local used car lot that doesn't even know enough to change the oil on a car they repossessed after 18 months of slow payments. And it had the exhaust pipe just hanging on by one bolt, which they didn't notice. They did know enough to clear all the engine codes after anyone test drove it though. I ended up buying this hunk and thought I got a decent deal knowing I would have to do some work on it. Just didn't know how much. Now I understand why people say to take that dealers sticker off your car before you try to trade it in.

Craig, I didn't think it was possible to destroy an interior like that Mustang in only 80,000 miles. I don't believe that car is legit for a minute.

The odometer…I got mine with 94k, supposedly. The engine, manual trans and clutch were good. It was a “tired” car at that mileage. I always suspected the odometer had been f’ed with. But I’m a Honda guy that was torque shopping…found it. The powertrain was so fun. Over 60 mph it wasn’t trusty - the alignment and such. New, I’m sure it was no disappointment. It had some electrical gremlins too.

Good score if the engine/trans seem solid. I always make money on those Chevy Cruze's.

Paint the fender, throw some Corbeau seats in it, some cheap aftermarket rims, remove the tint, clean it up and sell it for $6k.

that's the thing that kills me with car makers: the driver's seat in most pickups too wear 100x faster than the other seats. If they made the seats or at least the covers, interchangeable it would not only reduce the production cost but allow you to even out the wear.

    • @Stressless2023

@@muskokamike127 There's all types of automotive upholstery shops that recover just the worn seat bolsters for usually a couple hundred bucks in most cars (sometimes less if you unbolt the seat and bring it to them) - This Mustang might be cheaper to just find a nicer seat in the junkyard or on Ebay though, there's still alot of these things around considering how old they are now..

@@Stressless2023 Yeah probably but with interchangeable seat covers you could double the life of the stock ones.
