What I dont understand is, that Rudy was so hot and passioned, and he had his own way with almost every women on his way, but Rampova was a cold selfish ego promoting chick, and he adored her, that I could not put together. Rudy was a needy man emotionally and he was a soft touch. She was strong and often she would say things that made it seem like he was a little boy and she had to take charge of him...like a mother. He even had his paychecks issued directly to her. At the same time, she was seductive and wily. My theory is that when she went up to San Francisco after hearing he was out all the time when filming Moran, and he found out for the first time that she came from money and saw that fancy home....well, his always present desire to achieve "status" was triggered and he went for a marriage with her. She, working with Nazimova, whose star began to fade, saw him as a future place to land to enhance her career. Nazimova during Camille, wasn't very happy to seem him fall for her, saying "She will swallow him like a boa constrictor" to feed her ego (sic). Adela Rogers St. Johns thought she was bizarre and couldn't stand her and her phony name. She said that Rambova married Valentino, the actor, not Valentino the man...she was already losing interest by the time he signed the big contract and she was no longer in charge of his career. St. Johns said when she left him it "broke his mainspring." Poor guy....Rambova had a curious relationship with money and men...she was in control. Her second husband, while of noble birth, was involved in real estate ventures on Majorca...which she largely funded with her inheritance. When she was doing her Egyptian trips and research, the co-director of the organization also seemed to give up control to the point that his wife had to go through Rambova to get any money if she needed it.

Maybe Rudy was looking for someone to look after him almost like his Mother did. He seemed a little lost at times. He had discipline in some areas of his life Keeping Fit, working hard at his acting fixing cars, etc. But he seemed to need Natacha to organise him. But she was too controlling and hard. He devoted so much time and energy trying to please her. That he lost some of himself in doing so Being a "henpecked" husband is not somethng to be happy about. Once he stood up to her and took more control over his life and career she couldn't live with him anymore. If she had loved him as much as ve loved her. Having a least one child with him would have made him happier. But, there was no compromise on her part. Shame he passed so soon after divorcing her. He may have been fortunate enough to find someone more suitable. He could have anyone, but, perhaps he wasn't that comfortable or confident as he appeared. We all have our weaknesses.... Shame poor man.
