    Lt. Col. Dave Grossman (retired) is the author of a dozen books including best seller 'On Killing' and 'On Combat', dealing with the psychological effects of killing and war on soldiers. Grossman was a Professor of Psychology at West Point, a former infantryman, paratrooper, and graduate of the Army's Ranger School. Grossman stands alongside men such as Massad Ayoob, Jeff Cooper, and John Farnham, as a person who has begun conversations and helped laid the groundwork that the modern science of lethal force encounters rests on. In this video, Grossman discusses the role of faith in combat, church security, political correctness, Jesus Christ and Christianity, and coping with killing and PTSD.

    I loved this video. I really liked how he says that sheep dogs pray with their heads up. I'm going to do this in church from now on. Thank you John, I am a huge fan of yours and watching your videos made me want to be a better man, husband and Christian. You are a true warrior poet!

    From an old Force Recon dude and fellow Christian... I really appreciate your work and making it available to the general public. Many "tactical instructors" give only "teasers" in their videos in an effort to get you to spend money for the "real stuff". Thank you for freely handing out the "real stuff". Please let me know if you ever need assistance in the 'South of Alabama' (spoken with attempted French accent, lol).

    Dave Grossman's book "On Killing" is a must read for every spiritual warrior. This was a concise but heavy interview. I had never visualized the picture of Gideon's 300 (Judges 6), "eyes on battlefield" as they drank water. Totally consistent w/Jesus exhortation in Matthew 10: 17 "Beware of men..."

      Your Daddy then aren't you areligious? You may be glad to know that God is against religion as well. Bro, be encouaged, the god that you don't belive in doesn't exist TRUE. But, the (True) God that you know (deep in your conscience) does exist. The fact that you don't love Him, doesn't change that reality. - Don't be "chill" with matters of enternal importance, that's way too costly.

    • @NicoDimov
      @NicoDimov 5 років тому +1

      It's true and I can understand it too, but atheists such as myself or people from other religions might feel excluded if faith is told as a key component of having a warrior or ship dog mentality. One could have the opinion that it is, in fact, exclusive to Christian faith but if that's the case I'd like to challenge that concept.

    I think part of the reason why faith seems to provide some defense against PTSD is because faith in some kind of good usually comes with an assumption that there is an opposite malevolence (I know this isn't always true, but it usually is statistically). PTSD is often caused at least in part by an encounter with either real or perceived malevolence that goes beyond what the person thought was possible, so the assumption of an opposite malevolence that usually comes with faith in some good would inure a person to such an encounter (since no malevolence is greater than what is thought possible).

    Head up, eyes open! How else can you see Him coming from the clouds?
    I pray this way in church, mostly watching. Mostly waiting.
    I'm not looking for a fight. I am looking to preserve those that need saved. If for nothing else than to draw fire away from those I love. Judges 7:6, Three hundred of them drank from cupped hands, lapping like dogs (NIV). These guys were chosen to fight in battle because they kept their heads up. They were alert. Wary. Ready. Like a good sheep dog.
    We all have our calling. Some preach , others pray, some lay on hands, some are sheepdogs.
    Psalms 144:1, Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. (NIV)

    I found the book 'No Second Place Winner' by Bill Jordan, retired border patrol, an old school guy like Jeff Cooper and Mass to be a good source of advice back 35 years or so ago especially the chapter he devoted to attitude when it comes to the point where you have to step up to stay alive or turn around and run real fast and hope. If you haven't had the opportunity, I'd recommend it as a good read, of course it's mainly from the old days of 'wheel' guns, but the 'frame of mind' is basic and still the same.

    I Found a coin half buried in the edge of a curb one time when I was doing landscaping worked and it had the Ten Commandments on it and the only reason I kept it was because it said Thou shalt not murder and I'm still looking for Ten Commandments that says murder instead of kill so that I can put it up on the wall of my house.
