Did McDonald’s get rid of Ronald owing to coulrophobia? Even if Grimace, Hamburglar and Birdie aren’t clowns, you can’t have them without Ronald, hence they too had to be ditched. If my theory’s right, I don’t know why people would miss Ronald, rather than be relieved he’s no longer the mascot. I remember adverts, on UK TV (on channels like ITV), featuring him, that used to terrify me (three I saw in July 1995, one I saw in March 2001, one I saw at the end of April 2001 - don’t know if that was the same one I saw in March, and one I saw in 2004 - some time pre-May). I additionally got terrified when I saw a child, on one of the home video clips on ‘You’ve Been Framed’, some time in November 1995 (one month before Dean Martin died), dressed as a witch, and wearing a Ronald McDonald mask (I must say, the Ronald McDonald mask scared me more so than seeing a child dressed as a witch).
You were right about the first Ronald McDonald! The 1963 one was scary!
0:47 the first version didn’t even scare me
