@@Vixiebabe The songs are just, they just shouldn't be a thing. Here it's a remake of the actual story, but it's just like the other fiction stories. Do you like the actual movie, or just singing and dancing? The point of the show is Mulan's story, not a bunch of silly songs. I actually prefer the new movie because the characters don't occasionally break into a song for no reason.

Mushu could be like a telepathy situation kinda like in the eragorn movie where the mouth doesn't move but Mulan could still hear his thoughts. He could give her battle advice or teach her what being a warrior means and kinda nudge her into figuring out what being a warrior means to her.

Why rely on Hollywood for casting when there are many actresses from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc that can do the job justice and can speak English just fine? Tell me you don't watch Asian dramas and films (that aren't from Korea) without telling me you don't watch Asian dramas (same goes for people casting their kpop faves). Also the bit about the dragon speaking is different than say mice because dragons are fictional creatures that can speak according to Chinese folklore. As you said, he should speak but be it in a noble way. I would say Mushu should be an Uncle Iroh type. Wise but also witty and funny in some ways, not completely serious

I love the animated version in part because the first half is a fun musical and then when they reach the burned village, from then on nobody sings. It's like a reality-check and gut-punch that helps put the war scenes into the right tone. It's amazing they pulled off that drama in animation.
I think the lack of music in the first half in the live-action actually makes the war scenes less of a gut-punch. I'd like to see more films give us a big dramatic tone change and pull it off as well as this older animated film did.

Honestly, since the movie was panned for the one-dimensional feminism I'd like to see her mother sing a song akine to bring honor to us all about being a good Chinese girl. As well as if we're going to bring Mushu in for a comic relief stance, I'd like mushu to be voiced by an Asian comedian. Yes, I'd like to be a female comedian like Ali Wonug because I'd like yo see the other gardians looking down on her for failing Fa family during another war. This is a mission of redemption for Mushu as well. As well I think it would be interesting to see Mushu's idea of feminism change. So the movie would move from one idea of feminism to another.

My Mom and I realized just yesterday that Mushu is basically Mulan’s imaginary friend. If she didn’t have him to talk to in the animation, we wouldn’t have known so clearly how she felt and what she was confused or determined about, just like in the life-action. The three friends were also very important to show how others acted in those situations, and how she gained support from them not for being a woman, but for being herself.
    I think.

Just like the case of Pinocchio Remakes , in the Remakes he portrayed as a OP wood puppet that can save himself while he being imprisoned by a puppeteer without the help of the fairy
So what’s the purpose of the fairy for being involved of the story ?
Ariel can swim to the surface while she transformed into human for the first time so what’s the purpose of her friends ?
Disney is making some mistake at writing a character here
Its not to be wise for Heroes character to portrayed as Miss Perfect or Mr Perfect
Because it will erase an element of struggle and development of the heroes which is an important element of the Hero character
If a Hero just simply portrayed as Mr or Ms Perfect in a story all the time , of course audience can get bored easily

Mushu in live action would have worked if they had cast Jackie Chan for the voice and had seriousness! Dragonheart worked that way and the animated movie’s trailer used its music for it so omitting Mushu kinda cut Mulan off from having another photorealistic dragon to honor what they had used for the trailers!

The actress chosen for disney's live-action mulan was only chosen because she can speak english, was born in a white country (canada in her case), AND has an acting career in china large enough to be recognized by chinese viewers, even though numerous chinese people said that she is a terrible actress. [The casting director and director claimed that she was chosen because of her athleticism and she didn't look "dainty", but i don't buy that because that actress is definitely not the only chinese actress from a white country that can speak english and is athletic. Yes, Asian female beauty standards are different from non-asian female beauty standards, but that doesn't mean they had a hard time finding a chinese woman that is athletic and didn't look "dainty". Liu Yifei was just the one that had a large enough acting career in china for disney to notice her.] There were asian people working behind the scenes in the animated movie (including two asian women writers) but zero asian people working behind the scenes of the live-action movie. The white live-action mulan crew and disney executives disregarded asian-americans because chinese people complained about animated mulan being too "asian-american" and thought they were capable of making a more "accurate" mulan movie that would appeal to china just from watching chinese mulan movies and shows. Well, they were proven wrong because China found the live-action mulan to be too Americanized and even more of a bastardization of Mulan from ignorant white folks who will never understand what it is like to be chinese. [And they would have realized that much sooner if they had just listened to Asian-Americans.] Because of that, they just screwed over the asian-american actors and actresses involved in that movie.

    • @jackvue722
      @jackvue722 11 місяців тому

There's so much wrong with your comment. Liu Yifei was born in Wuhan, China and later became an American citizen. She began acting in 2002 and is one of the biggest stars in China. She was named one of the 4 Dan actresses in 2009, meaning she's one of the 4 most bankable and popular actresses in China. Her acting isn't top tier, but she has greatly improved since her earlier years. The issue isn't Liu Yifei, but Disney. Disney tried so hard to "represent" a culture that they didn't really care about. So, at the end they ended up creating a bastardized caricature of it. Even though Dreamworks' Kungfu Panda also got a lot wrong with Chinese culture, Chinese audiences could feel the love that the film makers put into it. Disney made a movie to pander, while Dreamworks made a movie with love.
As an Asian-American with friends from mainland China, we are quite different from one another. Asian-Americans are still Americans. There's reason why movies about Asian-Americans stories don't do well in Asia. So even if Disney consulted as many Asian-Americans as they could and had Asian-Americans working on the production, it still would have been too American. You also need to remember, for a lot of Asian-Americans their knowledge of Mulan comes from the 1998 animated film. For the people in China, their knowledge of Mulan comes from the ballad.

@@jackvue722 thanks for correcting me about the actress's citizenship. I definitely agree that the actress wasn't the problem, but disney was since they claimed to portray a culture they don't care about. However, this doesn't disprove my point about her only being chosen because she could speak english that was understandable to the white production crew. Maybe she improved later on, but when it was announced that she was chosen to play mulan, numerous chinese people (from china) criticized her and disney picking her because she was well-known to have terrible acting skills. [You can have terrible acting skills and still be well-liked and famous.] It also doesn't disprove my point of disney needing to talk to asians (both asians born in asian countries and asians born in non-countries). And i am already very well aware how different Asians born in asian countries are from asians born in non-asian countries. Asians born in asian countries might not care or know why asians born in non-asian countries keep fighting for representation both on-screen and behind the scenes and why they complain about racism and cultural appropriation, but asians born in non-asian countries are more aware of how non-asians perceive things and how asians born in asian countries perceive things. If Disney had actually interacted with asian-americans about an idea for live-action mulan, they would have realized that the movie was a bad idea and scrapped it right away because they would have learned that there was zero way for them to make a mulan adaption that would please China because China will never accept a mulan adaptation that isn't made in China. And even if disney still decided to make the live-action mulan movie after all that, at least having asian-americans working behind the scenes like they did for the animated movie would have prevented some issues that came across because the crew behind the scenes of live-action mulan had zero asians. Yeah, it would have been too American to chinese audiences if they got asian-americans, but disney wasn't going to be able to avoid that no matter how hard they tried to please China at the expense of asian-americans and it is way better for them to have asian-americans working behind the scenes than having no asians working behind the scenes at all. [Disney didn't even bother to try out Asian-American actors for the main roles of that movie. They strictly went to China and didn't bother to research and pick an actress Chinese audiences would have preferred. The only time you saw Asian-american actors in the movie were when they were playing the background characters. And Asian-Americans know that disney has no issues finding talented asian-american actors that could have filled those major roles. They just didn't bother because both non-asians and Asians born in Asian countries see asians born in non-asian coubtries as "unprofitable" and "unrelatable".] And it is funny that you mentioned Kung Fu Panda because whether Chinese audiences realized it or not, even Kung fu panda had asian Americans working behind the scenes. The only difference are between that movie and disney's mulan (both animated and live-action versions) is that king fu panda has talking animals instead of humans so asians born in asian countries and non-asians don't have to visualize asian-americans when they watch Kung fu panda compared to mulan. (Animated disney mulan was made with love too, but chinese audiences probably don't care about that because asian-american women writers wrote the movie and that movie had mostly humans so they couldn't divorce asian-americans from the movie.) [Then again, maybe that is why the live-action mulan had zero asians working behind the scenes compared to animated mulan. Maybe the Asian writers, costume designers, and consultants knew that live-action mulan was a terrible idea and knew that disney would never be able to make a mulan adaptation that would please china (especially with their behind-the-scenes crew being all white) and backed out when they heard the idea. There is also the issue of live-action mulan being filmed near concentration camps and the actress saying some political things that upset a lot of people, but the first issue could have been avoided if they talked to chinese people and the second one is probably just a coincidence.]

There is a good 2020 version. It's Mulan rise of the warrior 2009. It's 100% China made. So expect subtitles. and It does have it's "made-for-TV-Drama" moments, but it has ALL the promises that 2020 Disney made, but never delivered. including a female antagonist that changes sides.
In terms of characters like Mushu... it's unintentional, but the 2009 give Mulan a childhood friend. that discovers and helps hide her while they're in the military. And musical wise. Making them instrumental would be better. But the 2009 made ONE song. And it was put in a very emotionally driven scene. and probably one of the best scenes in the film.

I really liked the idea of the witch though I had my reservations they couldve made a cool statement with that idea instead they just kill her off she was severely ly under utalized and don't get me started on the absence of Li Shang or the bond between father and daughter that was clearly shown in the original.
