I just got into FOW and want to say great video! I really appreciate you guys taking the time to explain what's happening and why roll values are what they are, really helps me to better understand the game and the rule book. Looking forward to watching your previous video and any new ones that come out.
I love your FoW battle reports. This is one of the best I've seen so far. Very interesting scenario. Thank you for putting so much time and effort in producing this stuff!
I have been out for a dozen years. I just got the Fury set and will get hit the beach next week. You provided a nice demo refresher. Good job, gentlemen. Thank you!
Well that was a fun game! I was thinking it might be a bit stale in the first few minutes but that soon changed! And John, poor sportsmanship borrowing Jake's dice and rolling so well, especially as Jake's dice were cold!! :)
Really well-done video and game play was fun to watch! Makes me want to get back into FoW again (it's a great game, but much more fun when the people your playing with have fun with the game instead of just wanting to win)
Thanks for a great battle report, really enjoyed it.....Went to the wire, which always makes for a great game to watch. Sorry to say the British Airlanding 6pdr only gets two shots max. Nice to see British Paras back.....'Gammon bombs' and tea all round.!!!!
You have to roll a cross check for any kind of obstacle. However, terrain is pretty subjective, so its best to discuss it with your opponent before the game. I have been playing for 11 years and forgetting to talk terrain before the battle has bitten me more than once.
The Tiger is a beast for sure. I'm honestly surprised that Jake pulled it off, but it goes to show you that stubborn veteran infantry can keep you in the game. I think Jake needs to up his anti-tank game though. PIATs and AT10 tanks just don't cut it in a land full of cats. I have a shed load of Fireflies and they really earn their points. Also, 17lbrs, when you're going to be on the defensive, are very useful. I do like the 6lbr though and his platoon was a plucky bunch. I do disagree with Jake that his list was superior. It's solid for sure, but I think the Tiger list is more powerful. Maybe you should have taken more infantry, Jon? I love STUGs, but honestly your Tigers had the whole big gun thing covered. I think a full grenadier company would have really helped here as it would have given you the bodies that you needed to swamp Jake. Or perhaps a battery of artillery? Jake's boys were pretty close in- a battery wefers would have really ruined his day! Anyway, great game!
Agree that Stugs were redundant - I'd take grenadier platoon plus Wespes and maybe observer to let them stay hidden. Same price, and it would have created MUCH more pressure for Jake than the Stugs did.
Yes great see to the BR again! Jake you must have the worst dice in the history of FOW oh man, doesn't help your Dad seems to roll hot all the time! Thanks both of you for uploading this game.
FYI - gun teams CANNOT Blitz. And, the 6-lbrs only have ROF of 2 now!! Otherwise, a very enjoyable game to watch !! Sorry, one more point worth noting. At the end of the German Turn 6, had the Tiger consolidated back to within 4" of the Cromwell objective, it would have been game over since the Tigers started their turn contesting the objective and at the end of the assault, there were no British forces left within 4" to contest. But then again we would have missed all the ensuing action, so maybe just as well. Again, it was fun to watch, thx.
We constantly forget that one. Overall though it has no impact in this game so that was lucky! Jake corrected the Rate of fire by the end of the game. (it was his first time playing out of the British D-Day books.
Harlow, great point with the blitz thing, just paused the game to raise the issue but then I would like to say that if the Tiger started the turn in 4 inch of the objective and at the end of the german player there were no defending units with 4inch, the German player would have won the game even if the Tiger was outside 4 inchs. This is the new rule in V4 for winning. But then amd again, I will resume the video, great job, keep posting battle reports and engage with the community!
An interesting scenario. Not sure about the number of piats available and the morale rules re casualties which mean infantry units are pretty much fighting to the death all the time but I must say you and your team always present well .
If I understand, you´re joining teams later on from the same platoon that launched the assault, teams that weren´t part of the inital thrust. I don´t think you can do it
Am I not correct in thinking you fired your main guns at the inf platoon but then you never rolled for your 2 dice of mg fire from each tank as well, of which you can fire if its at the same platoon.??
Kind of. The old Villers Bocage scenario had specific forces and terrain in it whereas this scenario is more generalized. But yeah, it's the same basic scenario.
Well I don't claim to know the mind of the FOW designers but I imagine it's to give you the option of a slightly cheaper para unit or stock them up? I like having the option, just wish they had made it more clear. From a business standpoint adding them as optional cards makes the card packs a more attractive purchase?
As far as I know it's Fortress Europe (generic late war), the 4 D-Day books and the latest book, Bagration. All of those use the new points scale. older V3 books can still be used in V4 with the conversion info that's out there but I wouldn't mix them against each other.
@@martynchapman3503 It's not debasing history. It's called understanding that war games cannot (and shouldn't) be 100% authentic. Tank battles are fun, and painting armor is as well, so that is what Flames of War specializes in. Snobby elitists are what are killing the hobby.
the models in this game represent one to one, with infantry stands having 3-4 man on each medium base. I took a Tiger Company, so I would expect lots of tanks, Jake had Paras with Tank Support. While perhaps Artillery and more AT guns would be More realistic it is not unrealistic to assume that the first units arriving to support beleaguered infantry might be motorized. Thanks for watching!
Hi Martyn, Thanks for checking out the channel. Coming up with the justification about mission goals is up to you(and is part of the fun). What to the Objectives in this game really represent? It's not really important to defend a burned out tank but if the bossman says, "Hold the Crossroads" that's what you do. In this scenario though the Random delayed reserves means that the players aren't sure where the enemy is until the roll onto the table.
I believe they are trying to represent company level but it now means you can mix just about any formations to create a force. We do historical wargaming at the company and battalion level if you are interested 121 scale for UA-cam if you are interested check us out on UA-cam
They didn't do that at Villers Bocage and that is the action that this scenario is modeled loosely after. Like Villers Bocage, the British in this scenario have punched deep into German territory and this is a swift German counterattack against an unprepared British force.
I am not crazy about how well units can see and shoot so accurately through hedges and pick off certain units, also get rid of those German dice because the number of 4 -5 and 6 die rolls Far outweighed the British dice rolls! I am also not crazy about how long units can still remain with good moral and able to last even when down to 1 stand from an original 9! Other than that I love watching the battles! HATE Tiger tanks!!!!!😃

Stugs are important. They go into places hard to see them
Another great BR. About 20 minutes in the Stugs did a cross check to cross the fence. I thought that's not required for a wood fence?
You have to roll a cross check for any kind of obstacle.
However, terrain is pretty subjective, so its best to discuss it with your opponent before the game. I have been playing for 11 years and forgetting to talk terrain before the battle has bitten me more than once.

Great battle report! More please.
Heartbreaking when John rolls a 6 into the ruined house and slowly turns it to the camera!!!!! Great battle report.

lmao another great br! This is exactly why I'm running a Tiger Force! If you can eliminate the right units, tigers literally become invincible
You guys are super fun to watch
It's a long A sound in Daimler, as in paint, guys, great to have back doing bat reps again :)
DAME-ler.
Germans prefered DIME-ler. Brits preferes Dame-ler
DAY-mler
Most definitely NOT Dalmer!
Love the beautiful map setup!! What table mat is that?
It's from Frontline Gaming, it's called, fittingly enough, "Bocage"
Batreps are back! Thanks a lot!

great show so glad to see FOW

Great report… who makes the battle mat?
I believe it is from Front line Gaming.
Yes - the best is back! But those Tigers...don't they deserve painted tow cables? ;)
Thanks! and yea the tigers are going on over 10 years old and were painted by my son :)
I wonder how many glancing shots those tigers took? I am guessing it was alot!
That was a good game. Good thing he didn't have the gammon bombs though. John, who makes those hedges?
fun to watch ... thank you
Looks like a fun mission
Jake is so staggeringly unlucky
My luck is worse.
@@rcgunner7086 If your luck is worse than that, I would suggest not going out on the street ever again!

It's pronounced Dame-ler :)
amazing video
Where did you guys get the battle mat? Im just getting into flames of war
Frontline gaming. I really like it.
Am I not correct in thinking you fired your main guns at the inf platoon but then you never rolled for your 2 dice of mg fire from each tank as well, of which you can fire if its at the same platoon.??
You can't shoot main gun and MG in the same turn from the same team.

Kind of. The old Villers Bocage scenario had specific forces and terrain in it whereas this scenario is more generalized. But yeah, it's the same basic scenario.
Great vid. Will there be another Soviet bat rep?
Not sure. I don't collect Soviets yet. At some point I'll take the plunge and buy a new Russian Army.
All Miniatures Great and Small that makes sense. Thanks for answering. I personally Play soviets so I like to see them in battle. Have a good day
I thought ROF on 6 pdr’s was 3?
V3 had ROF3, but in the new D-Day book they were bumped down to ROF2.
Do the paras not have gammon bombs when assaulting? Is that a version 4 change?
Well, not be default in the D-Day book. but you can purchase them as upgrade cards. I didn't realize until well into this game.

Nope everyone has their preferences!

I did realise this was a platoon level game. How would a platoon ever have so much armour in real life?
It's a game. And Flames of War is a very armor heavy game. They don't roll dice when shooting at people in real life either.
