The first thing Patrick Glenn Nichols would say is the hood pin cables are in the wrong location and then he would tell us if this car is the real deal or just a Malibu ...:)
I bought a 70 SS454 LS6 after coming home from Vietnam in my favorite color fathom blue with white skunk stripes and ivory white interior, rock crusher 4 speed, 12 bolt posi with 4:11's and I had dealership install the LS7 open chambered heads on it 1 year later in 71. The heads were open chamber rectangular port cylinder heads with 2.19 intake and 1.88 exhaust valves. Car for its day was unbeatable. Had alot of wheel hop so installed ladder bars. Today, GM Performance offers numerous crate engine applications, up to 572 inches in big block form at over 700 horses to make this look slow in comparison. If I could find another one in showroom condition in that color combo with all the right options, I would buy today!
J G we have that color combo. Just arrived. I haven’t even had the chance to photograph it yet but if you want to email me, I’ll give you all of the details. Angie@flemingsultimategarage.com
I salute you for you Service Sir! I was a Desert Sand LS6 owner, (‘87-‘95). I can only imagine how it felt to purchase something like this after making it through SO MUCH. 🙏
I had an LS-6 triple black 1983-1985 until it was stolen n found totally stripped & in flames , The car had these special hood locks where the hood pins would be . So they cut into the firewall n took the whole front clip off . Firewall ,roof , frame n quarters were left . CRV engine code with the M-22 Rockcrusher trans . Engine had an off road L/88 cam in it . Broke my heart because I knew I had something special . This bad boy had 331 gears in the back that were changed for gas milage from previous owner can you believe that . Well at 40 mph i was really doing 55 . Went 120 on the speedometer one time with 2 passeangers on ply tires L60's on the back . Yes that adds up to 165 . It had more in it but that was dangerous on those tires .LS-6 in 1970 Were colsed chambered heads 11.25 to 1 compresson the rare LS-6corvette in 1971 was open chambered an alumninum n i believe the Compression was 10 to 1 . LS-7 is an open chambered head n the 1970 over the counter buy with 12.5 to one compression like the L/88 . You need high octane to drive it
The 1970 Corvette and Camaro were both also slated to have the LS7 454. How I wish that it would have actually existed! The Camaro was also to have the LS6 version. I also liked the original LT-1 350 V-8 used in both the Corvette (370 hp) and Camaro Z-28 (360 hp).
i own a 70 chevelle with a LS7 454 in it black with the white stripes hope yous are running that thing on 100 plus octane for the 12:5:1 compression there solid lifter cams same as ZL1 aint very street friendly 5340 nitrated Steel Crank Forged Domed pistons they was sold from the dealer over the counter as a long block no intake no carb no distributor no water pump came with AC delco 45 Sparkalators they also would of came with a Tag on valve covers saying OFF ROAD USE ONLY and crate tag saying 100+ octane only i got one in my car with only 1 hour maybe of run time im the first person to pull it out of the crate since it was purchased in 1970
I do not care about these videos , I worked in the parts department at Woodard Chevrolet in 1970, I ordered a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS7, convertible , aluminum heads 460 hp, 1 4bbl, 4 speed positive traction, so many other options, Root beer paint, black interior, white stripes, I still have it in storage since 1980. I also have the original build sheet. looks like crap, so what. never get rid of it.
Tony....once again young man....love and respect out to you and the entire Flemings crew for yet another outstanding job on such an amazing car. That exhaust note alone....Ohhhhhh....leaves me weak in the knees.....Seriously love you all....Thanks again.
Sweet looking Chevelle...LS 6 was definitely the Big dog back in the day... My Dad purchased one new back.in the day... Black with white stripes...with a white bucket seat interior with 4spd trans with air /PS/PS and power windows and tilt wheel and rear defrost... Probably because it was purchased in New England...🇺🇸👍
Holy cow 😮that Chevelle is the same as my dads except his is fathom blue , 4 sped m-22 rock crusher is an ls-6 car with a dealer ordered from chevy with a ls-7 🤯, is such a beast and a nice cruiser 😊
Good hearing how honest you are trying to be about this. Sorry though, no one leaves aftermarket gauge on a 100k Chevelle. What is it a oil / vacuum? Never seen the dash as shown where it is with de-fog until 71. Beautiful car though.
Ok i had a 70 dark blue ,whit strips, 454 had aluminum heads and intake, Holley carb from the factory, 12 bolt, 400 ,full gauges, and it had nothing else manual windows, no air ,power brakes ,chrome ss wheels, bucket seats council. I wonder if it was a lS7
DEALERSHIPS Would Do (Basically) Whatever You PAID FOR Back Then! If The Mfger Didn't 'ALLOW' Certain Stuff To Be Ordered ON The Car-They'd Put The Stuff In The Trunk Or Have The Receiving Dealer Add The Parts And Write A Receipt.

LS7 did not have aluminum heads, they were iron heads. The LS7 was a 12.5 to 1 454 crate engine built by Tonawanda and sold thru dealerships beginning in 1973.
It was supposed to be a Corvette option but it never happened. Vette only got the LS5. 71 Corvette had a LS6 option rated at 425 HP but only 188 were made.
There were two different LS7 engines so it gets a little confusing. For 1970 the plan was to take the Chevelle LS6 and install a little hotter cam with more exhaust lift (550 instead of 520) and stick the L88 074 aluminum heads on it and drop it in the Corvette. Except for these two changes the engine would be virtually identical to the 1970 Chevelle LS6. That plan obviously never happened so the second iteration of the LS7 came in 1973 when they began selling it as a crate engine. Now this LS7 was completely different than what was planned for Corvette and had iron heads, 12.5 compression, the ZL1 cam believe it was 560/600 lifts so it was a wild and crazy engine and probably barely streetable. So that's it, only one test LS7 Corvette was ever built and none were sold to the public and the unique camshaft that it was to use was never available either. It's too bad, the only year in Corvette history where the it didn't get the top hp engine.
No such thing. But you can swap one in a chevelle. Because that's when they start being strict on emissions. So 70 was the last year they made a high power motor as such

LS7 Code XCH engines were over-the-counter purchases intended for Corvettes and racing. NEVER dealer installed or from the factory installed for showroom customer purchase. Insurance liabilities prevented it. Having said that. It never stopped a mechanic from buying the LS7 454 big-block and putting it in anything. At a 12.250:1 compression ratio. The engine required 100 octane fuel or better. A "Not For Marine Use" tag was also tied to the engine. Mechanical lifters and constant hot lash adjustments were always needed. Unless you drive to and from the local airport for leaded 100 octane fuel or better, you don't own one of these. They do not exist and were certainly not dealer-installed. I know more about this topic than this "salesman".
The first thing Patrick Glenn Nichols would say is the hood pin cables are in the wrong location and then he would tell us if this car is the real deal or just a Malibu ...:)
He would also tell us if the corners of the stripes were correct based on assembly plant. Also if the inner fender wells were correct.

Just a pet peeve with me. 12 bolt rears used 4:10 gears and the 10 bolts used the 4:11s.
Have a uncrated brand new ls7 i purchased from a Toronto dealer in 86, paid $4000.00.Going in a 66 Beaumont...🔧
They do. A friend back in 72 bought one with documentation from GM Canada, used to race it at mission raceway in BC

Do a compression check you will know the cylinder pressure is different between the LS-6,7
had one just like that --- Cranberry Red with Black

Beautiful!!!!
If it'a Original LS7 it must habe Suffix code XCH on the motor. If not it's no Original LS7 from 1969 - 1970
Ls7 never came stock it was dealer option
The crate LS7 (suffix XCH) came out in 1973 so there was no 69 or 70 LS7.
You can make those seams look stock.
oh yeah - if you wish the A body to corner - use the F body spindle's and modify the Arms... today just buy a kit!
OMG this would be a dream car.
The only thing that would make that car better are some period correct thrush mufflers instead of those hideous drone masters.
Take a shot every time he says "right?"

I thought the LS6 was the top engine to have in a ‘70 Chevelle. What’s the difference between the LS6 and LS7? How do you see?
Stroke and compression. 100 octane fuel or better at 12.250:1 compression. Mechanical lifters.
LS7 had aluminum heads only difference
LS7 did not have aluminum heads, they were iron heads. The LS7 was a 12.5 to 1 454 crate engine built by Tonawanda and sold thru dealerships beginning in 1973.
they came with 2 fuel line in the 454
Beautiful Chevelle. Thanks for the video
YES THEY DO EXIST,!!
This smells like last week's fish, tank sticker' passenger carpet, what are the codes on the vin that show 70 ss ls6??
They do exist. My neighbor has one from when he drag raced back in the day
Isn't the LS7 a 1970 crate motor?? Or could you get it from the factory in a Corvette???

That's a reproduction dash. The original one's didn't have chrome rings around the gages. Too bad a build sheet wasn't shown.
They did come with chrome rings, deluxe package...
It wouldn’t bother me if I were to buy it, but was rust painted over on the axle, just curious.

LS7 is aluminum block . the engine in the car is painted so not ! Whats up with the video ?
Wrong!!
Zl1's were aluminum blocks. 427 cubic inches and not 454's. My Code XCH LS7 454 is cast iron built in 1973.
69 only, ZL1 427 aluminum engines, corvette only, doubled the price.
