i never really got it either until i went to an EDM concert myself. most of the songs they play are remixed live so that they can control the way the audience reacts to the music. if they see a certain audience is reacting particularly well to slight pauses, they’ll add more of those to the show. if they notice that an audience isn’t reacting that much to a particular song, they’ll wrap it up quicker than usual. the visuals on stage are also a HUGE part of the EDM experience. i remember being absolutely mesmerized by the visuals i saw. they add a lot more to the atmosphere of the show and to the songs in general. once you experience a song with the visuals at the concert, you’ll never hear or see that song the same way again. (side note, not all songs are mixed live. some songs, like Clarity, are just way too iconic for any changes to be made. they’re perfect the way they are and they always affect the audience well.)
