I met him and Deanna in a New York park. They were both taking photos and invited me to their book signing. I said hey man your name Ed. He goes ahhh yeh it is 🤣 both were so so kind to me in the park and at the photo book singing!
That short story of young Ed throwing his cereal to the ground to spite his mom made me tear-up. It really hit home for me and brought back a lot of childhood memories. My older brother always did shit like that to our mom and I was a witness to the aftermath and emotional toll it took on her, and in consequence me. I really appreciate his honesty and it shows how powerfully a seemingly offhand comment can resonate.
Not a skater but grew up in the nineties. Loved every minute of this doco. So much nostaligia, real beautiful and honest story telling. Awesome character study.
Damn, rewatching this for likely the fourth time (but not for some while), the bit with Ed discussing Chris Senn and how deeply it still affected him made my eyes rain a little. Full confirmation of the long-standing truth that I really, really admire the guy.
Deanna is, ride or die. but not afraid of voicing her opinion. Exactly something ed needed and something we should all be jealous about. And on the other hand we would not know Deanna and or many other skateboards with this amazing human being
The fact she thought she was being a "bitch" and Ed immediately saying something to the contrary, drives it home even further for me that you can't find another another instance or purer form of two people 100 percent devoted and forever joined at the hip. I've never seen that for real in my life.
1:11:30 I remember this noseblunt so vividly. I was 9 years old when I met Ed at my first demo (2000). It was the toy machine crew, The butcher, harmony and a few others at XXX sports in Nashville. He hung out with me and answered all my questions for what seemed a life time. Just sitting on top of the mini ramp and my older brother was so upset because he ditched me and was on the other side of the park during the demo and thought he had the better spot to watch. 😂 one of my favorite skate memories. Still got the giant skull monster sticker with all of their signatures. ❤
@@illmsg77 I saw him and Vallely at a 411 show at Spankies in Riverside shortly before that 411 part came out, so I wasn't very surprised by the song choice. But, I was probably more starstruck seeing them than the band.
@@biosfearmag That's a cool story. I used to live in Huntington on Brookhurst and Adams but have never seen him in person. Yeah man, Mike V went from one of my favorite skaters to a man I can't ever respect again. You don't sell out your friends for a check. Fuck that. No excuses, I don't care that he was in his early twenties. That's old enough to understand you're fucking someone over, someone you had history with at that. Me and friends went to a Toy Machine Good & Evil demo and Ed was the last team member to arrive but once he did he skated fast and hard, it was distinctively noticeable. We all were hyped when The Tempster ripped through the demo.
Exactly. Back in the day skateboarding wasn't so accessible. We didn't have a million IG clips to flip through. We had mags and skate videos and you had to wait for the videos to come out. Once you see somebody like Ed ripping in person it's awesome to watch.
It´s so funny how at the beginning of this video Ed is so self conscious of how he looks on camera right after talking about taking photos of strangers on the street without permission.
The impossible is one of the coolest looking tricks. I could never learn them. That and late shovets. Also the love and devotion Ed and Dianna have is inspiring. The true test is growing old together and they seem to have something real beautiful
That's dope. You should get a cruiser and start riding bro. Get a shaped board, some Ace trucks and 55mm soft wheels and start pushing around. Keep your trucks a little loose so you can surf. It will change your life I promise.

I love this episode I think Ed Templeton was a key player in the evolution of skateboarding and I think Welcome to Hell was the video that really pushed the possibility on what and how big you can go on skateboarding.
I was one of those kids at a demo when Ed put on a show at our crappy skate park. Watched him nose blunt slide down the big hubba that most people would never 50-50 or even touch. Never forget that. Thanks for the inspiration Ed. Toy Machine for life!
Ed Templeton was my favorite pro in high school. Im an artist and I really identified with Toy Maxhine and his art. Jump off a building and welcome to hell are 2 of the best skate videos ever made. Ed absolutely tips too
Gnarly that Mike V would pull such a shady move on a buddy who was there through it all with him like that, dumped a good thing to start something with Mike, only to get did like that? Man, that’s messed up, and I’ve always thought differently of Mike… starting to think some deserved karma came back around for that move. I guess Mike projected another image entirely to the public. I met Ed as a kid in mid 90s, at Santa Rosa park. I think he was doing a demo for Surf Plus skate shop maybe? He was a genuine dude who took time to talk with us groms. We took him to skate the handrail across the street and we’re in the background to Welcome to Hell I think it was. Ed had sacked a rail and showed us his purple bruised nuts. Hilarious. I think I was about 12 or 13. Tony Trujillo was the only one of that grom crew who went on.
@@MisterElement I started skating again about 3 years ago just to supplement my surfing. I moved away from Sonoma county after high school, and have been in Hawaii ever since. But, growing up in the Bay Area at the time I did, around the guys that were around was pretty amazing.
I always thought Ed’s frontside big spins were sick. He was a big influence on street skateboarding. I grew up in the late eighties and early nineties in Virginia and the moment i saw a photo of him skating I wanted to see more. This at a time when videos were released every few years, so we relied on magazines.

Yeah, when I was a kid I thought Mike was so cool, beating up everyone, standing up. He used to beat security guards who were doing their job, braking obstacles in competitions, always complaining about everything in interviews, and then this.

I think almost every street skater in the world started learning impossibles and one foots in 1990-91 because of Ed Templeton.
