They had a bowl there n Tony did a hand plant right in front of me. I can still see the wheels spinning. When I got Heaths autograph, it was right after he did something huge over the pyramid and he sat down to take a break. He was outta breath. He gave it all he had that day n it showed! stopped halfway to go watch Heath's "This is Skateboarding" section and mannnnnnn I remember when this dropped. That backside tail, kickflip out and the kickflip front fifty are what classics are made of. Amazing interview. THANK YOU HEATH.
I remember seeing that back tail backside flip out in an ad thinking skateboarding couldn't possibly get any gnarlier. And I still get that same feeling seeing the video today. Skating may have gotten more advanced, but Heath helped show that stuff was even possible; if something that insane is possible, a whole world of insanity opens up.
There has never been and probably won't be again the epicness of a Heath part. The music choice, editing, slams, and tricks made his parts legendary, one of a kind, give you goosebumps type shit. The way he did it, his style and the amount of effort that went into a Heath part is unmatched. It was watching a man go into battle for the sake of the art of skateboarding itself. That's why we appreciate you.
There's something very refreshing and eerily freeing about listening to someone who's just out of the loop of trying to get everyone to like him or to try to be the best guest or anything, you can tell he's just as genuine as they come, thank you for this rare christmas gift! Truly one of the greats, even tho he doesn't look at himself that way.
I love how he’s doing his very best to convince Tony Hawk about how he’s not a big deal at all despite the incredible career and overwhelming influence he has had. An absolutely comedic level of humility.
Had the amazing chance of meeting Heath in Chicago and got a photo with him. He said in this interview, “no one knows who I am, no one asks.” I knew that no one else around knew it was him and I appreciate that he took the time.
One of the top ten / top tier podcast episodes of any kind in the history of the universe - for reals - (file under very reluctant guest) big ups to kirchart for avoiding social media
Jason Ellis kinda opened Heath up a bit being honest about his knockouts and struggles, props to Jason Ellis, that guy has had an amazing evolution and props to Tony for still filming jaw dropping parts with an AARP card. Tony, keep inspiring us
I met Heath on the Stay Gold tour when they stopped in Pittsburgh. Dude couldn’t have been any nicer and humble. He stayed by the vans after the demo and I just walked up and shook his hand and thanked him for all he’s done for skateboarding and being such an inspiration to look up to growing up and he was so humble and friendly.
I miss when Heath lived here in Des Moines. I’d often see him riding his bike in Urbandale, and he frequently attended sessions at Skate South. Sometimes he’d even humor us kids and play games of SKATE and help us figure out tricks. Hopefully he’ll stop through sometime this year when it warms up and we can get some sessions in at the Lauridsen park. Thank you for everything, HK. You’re a legend and your contributions to skateboarding/many of us skaters is invaluable. Sincerely, Concussion
Hearing him say he's a B rate skater made me laugh so hard. Heath Kirchart is a living legend! I couldn't respect this man any more than I do after that social media critique too. This was amazing
Heaths a beast, I still remember that huge kick flip over the grass gap where he just collapses. His style is classic even the way he dressed just plain and simple no gimmicks just pure skateboarding.
Heath is so fucking real. Extremely humble dude given what a legend he is. He'll always be seared into my memory just lipsliding gigantic goddamn rails that go on forever
Jason laughing when Heath says, “someone with natural talent like Guy” says it all! lol Heath you’ve been an inspiration and the top skater I’ve looked up to my whole life! Thanks for the love & dedication you’ve shared skating! Stay gold! 🤙
This is my favorite episode of this podcast. The beautiful thing about heath is that he wants nothing to do with being cool or famous but the more he hates it the more it makes him cool. I remember he served me drinks at the bar he worked at called Black and he was chill and down to earth with no ego. One of a kind enigma
Heath’s one of my favorite skaters too. I have a similar personality type and if I had to guess he’s kind of a lone wolf personality or confident individualist. People with this personality tend to enjoy solitary time or with a tight knit crew and anything outside of that bubble is just perceived as noise. This also explains how he was an extremely successful skateboarder, but to him, all the attention is just noise bc he viewed it as just skating with the people he knows and doing what he loved doing at the time. It’s not always easy to be like this, bc some people perceive the solitude or unwillingness to engage as being stand offish, ungrateful for the success, or stuck up, so really happy to see so many supportive comments. Glad Heath decided to do the podcast, bc whether or not he sees outside of his past bubble of having fun skating with people he knows, tons of us watched him skate growing up and got inspired about pushing the limits of what’s possible to do on a skateboard, either in terms of our own personal skill sets or in Heath’s case, pushing the limits of what is physically possible for all humans during his time skating.
Heath Kirchart is a legend. Still admire this man. Wish today’s generation knew this. All his video parts!! Stay Gold , This is Skateboarding, Sight Unseen, THE END (with Jeremy Klein), Mindfield, etc. It’s heart warming seeing he is still with us, was getting worried for a bit.
I started this podcast not knowing Heath, first I was unsure, then I started to like him, then I became more unsure, then I started to dislike him, then i started to like him. Now I think im in love. What a rollercoaster that was. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
Now watch his parts in Emerica: This is Skateboarding, Sight Unseen, Birdhouse: The End, and Mindfield to lift the rock you didnt mean to still be under
I remember my buddy giving me a burned copy of The End and just being blown away watching Heath and Jeremy's part especially the night skating with the huge neon green kicker ramp, that movie and those parts specifically are some of the greatest moments in skateboarding history in my opinion!! Timeless
Heath Kirchart seems to be a person who likes to be alone and hates bullshit. I really feel it and like that side of him. Also his need for accomplishment. He fights all the time. Not the easiest or funniest way, but true and full of passion. Amazing skateboarder!
Back in '96-'97, Kirchart, Reynolds & Greco came to a party at our house after a demo in Tucson and I gave them a ride back to their hotel afterwards. Drove them by the Manzanita Hall rail at the UofA and they said they were gonna hit it up. I just remember Heath got a random nosebleed when we were at the party out front. That's my Heath story.
Skateboarding as a sport is hard for lifetime skater’s to understand. It is what “I” went to avoiding team sports I tried and I DID NOT enjoy. Skateboarding was MINE and there were others who enjoyed it as well. At 51 “WE” NEVER lose skateboarding; It’s in “OUR” heart and soul! It is great seeing it finally recognized in the big picture. Somehow I overcame all that a decade ago but still watch videos to see what’s hot and enjoy seeing the fire and spirit of the young one’s WE carry! Skateboarding changed and shaped our lives and NOBODY but skateboarder’s will get what I’m saying…#ShutUp&Skate#🛹❤️🤘🏻
Heath is my all time favorite skater. This is a real Christmas Treat. Thanks to Hawk and Wolf for not blowing the interview. This dudes is the real deal!
Heath has been my fav skater since the first time I seen him on a 411VM box cover. He was like a stunt man on a board. And the fact he would stay so low key made him all the more interesting. I’m 39 now and seeing him finally do an interview has me just as hyped as I would have been as a 20 year old. Heath can deny being one of the best but he should def accept the fact that he was a huge pioneer in skateboarding. And that says a lot.
Heath is such a humble and respectable person. Heath could have been one of the pros who still have a board, maybe get a photo in a mag every year, and people could still be hyped but he said nah fuck that. Mad respect to a legend.
I almost know what kirchart meant when he said it’s bizarre that he’s there even though he’s not involved in skateboarding anymore, like it was a life time ago. I was thinking the same thing, how wild it is to look at 52 yr old Jason Ellis and to think that man was pulling kick flip 540s on big vert.. some time ago.
Heath, you're a legend whether you want to accept it or not. I know you want to fade into the ether, but you left a dent in skateboarding that can't be forgotten. You've helped alot of kids in their lives & those same kids watched your videos right before they went out to skate in the parking lot with their friends. Embrace man ☮️
Just listened on Spotify and now I want to watch the conversation happen . Too bad it's almost 2 a.m. and Santa could come writhing down my chimney any second with chunks of coal to smash in my face. I really enjoyed how uncomfortable and real it was. I've had conversations in a similar vein. There's something oddly nostalgic and refreshing about it. Thanks for doing it, Heath. I know those feelings.
WUT?!?! I thought I was dreaming when I read the title and had to wipe my eyes!!! ... Watching the mythical legend Heath Kirchart on Hawk vs Wolf on Christmas morning!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US!!!!! ❤🙏🏼🎄
Thank you so much for getting Heath on. It's nice to get updates on what he's been doing. Even after stepping out of the spot light, everyone still holds Heath in a dear place in their heart.
Never been more surprised and excited to see someone in an interview. I wish they’d have asked him more about his life though, recalling stories is great but it still leaves me wanting more.
My second actual board was a Heath "nightmare", I didn't even like birdhouse. But after sight unseen I had to skate what he was skating, there was no way around it. The Moody Blues Nights in White Satin holds a special spot in my heart purely because of that skate tape. Every time the song alone comes on I can literally hear and see the slams and the makes from that. Heath wont read this, but you are a hero to me, and always come in discusssions of greats.
Heath in Sight Unseen was truly epic. All top pros are so skilled but I always felt Heath gave it 100% and then some. I always felt he took it to the absolute limit and beyond even what high level skill set he had. Definitely a silent hardcore attitude and the action to back it up. Amazing stuff.
So rad! These are important stories. We’d never know otherwise. Thank you guys for manning up and talking about awkward history and everything in between.
Heath is such a truly one of a kind guy. I love that he doesnt do a bunch of interviews just cause when he does it feels like a such a special occasion haha I could listen to him all day.
I met heath in an alley in austin at wild in the streets when i was fresh out of high school. asked to take his portrait, he said "by the dumpster??" and i said yeah whatever it will look cool. and i can now say i have a portrait of heath actively hating me haha.
This popped up on my UA-cam feed, first time seeing this podcast/show. As someone who’s first video they watched as a kid was the end, kirchart is one of my favorites, like most. Great to see Heath in 2023, and not trying to be a hater, but this interview could’ve been so much better. Instead of spending an hour with him just going back and forth on why you’re aloof. You could’ve asked/talked about his Emerica shoes, how he got on Alien, did he ever feel like he was actually a part of “the workshop”, what boards he rides now, if he’ll ever put out any of the footage he’s got in some capacity since retiring, did he keep any of the coveted birdhouse decks/series, why he skated mostly at night, filming with Beagle, did he ever have a chance to ride for Baker, more in-depth questions about skateboarding in 2023 vs. skateboarding when he came up. I could go on and on, and hindsight is 20/20…but, actual fans of Heath would’ve been more interested in these questions and talking points.
It’s funny how he doesn’t subscribe for the whole social media thing and Jason doesn’t understand. For a guy with no ego it hard to explain to a guy who is nothing but ego is hilarious to me. I enjoyed the conversation and happy that you guys got him on the show. The impression of Jason without words was spot on he made the eyes and face and head nod. Classic
@@kylechampieux7403 For sure. He’s much better at directing and navigating an interview. These dudes just kind of go for it and it comes off more as a hang out with some questions. Just less professional and less organized overall.
Heath is one of my all time favorites. This was a fantastic interview, and he came off very natural and even though he doesn’t like interviews or anything, he’s very good at it. Loved this.
Skating comes in lots of forms, Heath is a prime example of the rare core dudes that just did it to do it. I really enjoyed that, Heath thank you for skating and being you.
im 49 and just started skating again after 19 yrs and i identified with everything jason said and i feel exactly the same way. why did i ever stop skating. its like i was in some kind of messed up trance. i never stopped looking for curbs and banks etc. i never stopped thinking like a skater. everybody in this situation says the same thing. its like we all are on the same exact frequency. its fu*&Ng weird if you really think about it
Hands down my favorite skateboarder ever. Still watch his parts before I go skate. So hyped to hear he still skates. Just stopped what I was doing and texted all my friends heath is on the pod. Legendary
Getting HK is WAY MORE impressive, then any actor or musician... the dudes an enigma, he was a thing of lore even before he retired!
Wish it was longer than an hour. Stole him from The9 and it would’ve been another 3+ hours on there.
@@memorysometimers3067he’ll never go on there

Heath has zero ego. It created an amazing tension.

Happy Holidays!! Enjoy :)
"im an average skater" bro literally closed out Sight Unseen and Alien Video lmao
I watch Heath on a regular basis.
Thank you so much for getting Heath on. It's nice to get updates on what he's been doing. Even after stepping out of the spot light, everyone still holds Heath in a dear place in their heart.
This is quite possibly the best thing I could've gotten for Christmas.
That intro with him driving down the highway 👌👌

That was mint right? The feelings going into that 29 stair slam.
Be well
H.K. doesn't realize juar how entertaining he is as a guest.
His stories are awesome.
Jason doesn’t need to talk. He could learn a lot from just listening to the guest rather than trying to relate every story to his MMA experience.
„Did I charge you?“ - „Did I tip you?“
❤❤❤
Birdhouse the End LEGENDARY !!!!!!
Dang. Still waiting for his Nine Club... if it ever happens
I can’t believe they got heath kirtchart. One of my all time favorites.

Thats hilarious @@worldsbiggesttruck
Priceless I loved every second of this show keep them coming. 100%
🙏
Heath is so rad he even told me he wasnt heath. True story.
I was just a younging and spotted him one day. Lol
Nostalgia all over again.
damn you guys gonna keep me up with HEATH KIRCHART on christmas morning. hell yeah
Classic
This is an amazing episode. Thank you Heath for doing this one.
i love how heath doesnt even realize how goated he is nor does he care
No wonder he doesn't do interviews. This was about 80% as good as it could be. As much as I'd expected lol. Thank you Tony and Jason for this Gem 💎
Agreed. Would have been a million times better on the Nine Club.
I guarantee Crob could have opened him up!
@@kylechampieux7403 For sure. He’s much better at directing and navigating an interview. These dudes just kind of go for it and it comes off more as a hang out with some questions. Just less professional and less organized overall.
He honestly talked about a lot more than I thought. He’s known Tony forever so that’s the only reason he did it.
Really happy to finally see and hear Heath, still and will be one of my favourite skateboarder !!
damn. tony is probably the only one that can get blender and kirchhart for interviews. rare.
Heath is one of my all time favorites. This was a fantastic interview, and he came off very natural and even though he doesn’t like interviews or anything, he’s very good at it. Loved this.
Awesome podcast! Heath is a unique guy.
It's so crazy how insistent Heath is on his insignificance
One of the best skateboarders that ever lived and he think this about himself..wow
Skating comes in lots of forms, Heath is a prime example of the rare core dudes that just did it to do it. I really enjoyed that, Heath thank you for skating and being you.
More skate guests please, this was such a good episode ❤
im 49 and just started skating again after 19 yrs and i identified with everything jason said and i feel exactly the same way. why did i ever stop skating. its like i was in some kind of messed up trance. i never stopped looking for curbs and banks etc. i never stopped thinking like a skater. everybody in this situation says the same thing. its like we all are on the same exact frequency. its fu*&Ng weird if you really think about it
Love the podcast and been watching for ages. Doing ads for gambling sux the big ones!
Heath is the Top G In skateboarding alongside Reynolds 👑
Heath was a top dog in this interview.. What a legend... Elis should have been left aside for this one.. Although the story with him was gold... 😂😂
Hands down my favorite skateboarder ever. Still watch his parts before I go skate. So hyped to hear he still skates. Just stopped what I was doing and texted all my friends heath is on the pod. Legendary
