    Dude, your neck shape comparisons are gold! To me the neck is the most essential thing on every guitar and your comparisons really help visualizing the actual neck of the guitar. Just dealing with numbers is just too abstract for me ;) Great job with the reviews!

    Best detailed review site i've ever seen. Just picked up a used like new grx 40 dirt cheap and am very impressed by this little guitar. It sounds really good and appears to be well made overall. This one only has a small paper serial number sticker on the back of the headstock which reads #Z723522. Was hoping to find out when it was made but those numbers appear to be sequenced totally different from the guitar reviewed in the video, guess i will never know the date. Great video as always!

    Very nice review, I really liked the pointing system. As you asked, I came to your channel by searching for GRX40 review. I'm looking for a replacement for my old Condor RX 30 (brazillian made-in-china brand) and this looks like to be a good guitar for the price (here in Brazil, around 300 euros with current currency conversion - 1 eur = 5.40 bra) - I only play for fun and relax at home, no bands or fency recordings - so as the 15 year old Condor, this should be enough for when I have the itchy to play some riffs. I will probably get the green one :)

      Eliminate friction. Nut slots must be wide enough and lubricated. String trees should be holding strings at the desired angle but not pressing on them more than needed and lubricated too.
      At the bridge, front screws need to be high enough so the base plate can move. Finally, and obviously, strings must be stretched including wraps around the pegs.

    • @MrLennonson
      @MrLennonson 3 роки тому

      @@Leo_ofRedKeep Thanks for the reply, may I know what front screw are you referring to?

    • @Leo_ofRedKeep
      @Leo_ofRedKeep 3 роки тому

      @@MrLennonson The 6 screws directly in front of the bridge. They bild the stopping surface on which the plate pivots. If they are screwed tight, they restrict the movement. Lubricating the 6 contact points with the plate is also a possible improvement.

    Thanks a lot for the review and pointing out the shielding issue. I had the same problem with my GRX40, shielding was not connected to the common ground and had a horrible high frequency noise on the single coils when not touching the strings. Rudimentarily connecting the flaky paint with aluminium foil to the grounded pick guard screw as a quick test lowered the high frequency noise of the single coils from 75 dB (!) to 59 dB on my Orange Crush 20RT fully cranked up on the clean channel all EQ at 12 o'clock, not touching the strings. When touching the strings, the noise is 55 dB with the settings above. (Measured w. an uncalibrated Voltcraft SL-200) I'm curious how much lower the noise gets once I properly redo the shielding with copper tape.

    It's all been said, but the format of your review is golden! Love your penalty points system. I thought you were going to add a penalty point for the screw in tremolo arm as I had one of those on my Yamaha RGZ321P and it wears out. What guitar with tremolo would you suggest for a beginner that does maintain its tuning?

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Рік тому

      I'd normally recommend a guitar with a fixed bridge to beginners as any tremolo may cause a lot frustration when one doesn't know how to set and use it. However, if it has to be a guitar with a tremolo, Wilkinson WVS 50 can be found on many budget guitars. It can be set as floating as well as one-way and stays in tune pretty well

Last year I get one from the store, its GRX20 in candy apple, which has two humbuckers and its actualy the first one in GIO line, but it is completly the same as GRX40. Pickup configuration is different, as I sead. I am not profesional guitarist, but by my opinion guitar is excellent. Only what I can tell now is that, it is bad that there is no GRX20 or 40 whith hardtail bridge. That would be acording to my taste completly.

    In the meantime I have tried 3 of these. 2 of them had massive problems with electromagnetic interference , even the humbuckers had hum trouble (If the strings are touched the hum gets quiter, but it doesn't eliminate it to an acceptable state). Obviously these GRX40s aren´t shielded very good. How is the hum with your model both with strings touched and also untouched?

    • @buckrogers5429
      @buckrogers5429 3 роки тому

      OK, I can answer my question all by myself, you have delivered the proof for the hum troubles I have experienced. I should have watched the video until the end before asking :))). The inner conductive shielding paint is not connected to the common ground. How stupid is that? I assume thats on all new GRX40 models.

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  3 роки тому

      It's hard to tell 100% that the shielding is not connected on all guitars without checking 2-3 more of them. Might be pretty random. The guitars you've tested might have had something else going on. Sometimes a location can cause some weird effects. Like in my studio all alnico humbuckers have a very high level of hum

    I'm tossing up between this and the GSA60. I think the GSA60 is better but this is almost identical to a strat clone I got as my first guitar in the early 90's in Australia so it has that nostalgia factor.

    Among the best reviews ever, even correcting the ignorant factory specs (medium jumbo frets). The pups seem suck. Terribly harsh and unpleasing ceramics,even u reduce the treble and still awful.no prob, pups are easy to change.
    What is the nut width? 42 or 43mm?

    I've just bought a green grx40 and it hums really bad.. Goes away when I touch the strings, bridge and jack... Are they all like this? I'm wondering if I bought another one would it have the same issues? Great guitar otherwise... Or is there an alternative... Not a squier bullet.. They are really bad in my recent purchases
