Hi there, I've got one and technically these are very well made, and they are good foundation for modifications, if someone want to do some. Nice instrument for raising your guitars skills. If you are good guitarist, with this guitar and good amp, you can perform anywhere, audience would not be dissapointed because you are not playing on very very very expensive gear. That I can say for sure. Cheers
Thank you, love your comment man👍✔ i really get inspired by EVH, who didnt have an expensive guitar at first
Hello, im from Honduras💯 i was looking for a review of an Ibanez GRX40, and i found your video, which is a complete home run for me, since i didnt know much about my guitar, and you have helped sooo much, that i want to give you my very special thanks for these two videos💯🙏 great content man👌
Also, i have this guitar, and even though, is not very well received to the public in general, im modding and doing everything i can to make this guitar sound and feel like a dream💯 im probably spending more money than the guitar itself, but its my first strat and im very excited by doing all the mods and upgrades👍 im putting a Wolfgang Bridge Humbucker, a vegatrem, a killswitch, fender locking tuners, a noise cancellation (thanks for the advice), and an EVH volume pot. Happy playing everyone👍😉🎸
Thanks José! Glad it was helpful
Thanks a ton from India. Very rare to see someone go to such length to review a beginner's guitar. I'm in the middle of buying my first electric and was in fact considering this one. After listening to both the parts I now know better. What would you advise for a first guitar that doesn't have these issues - especially tuning issues?
Hello Roy, the first guitar should be with a fixed bridge. But in this price range I think this one (same for Ibanez GRG-140, that I have, with 24 frets) it's unbeaten lookwise, soundwise and comfort of play.
What makes these sound so good are the "Infinity R“ pickups! Other cheap Ibanez have the "Infinty 1" pickups wich sound a bit muddy.
Consider, you have to work a bit on the fretboard and the fret ends (after rounding) with some very fine sandpaper smoothen all out, and oil the fretboard with "lemon oil" (not natural lemon oil!!)
For tuning stability you could bloc the trem, so it acts like a fixed bridge. Look up for vids here that explain how to do this. Three methods: tighten the spring claw, add 2 more springs, stick a wooden bloc between trem bloc and body wood.
The nut slots need a bit overwork too. They are often too tight and grab the strings.😊
There is a hack on this guitar, If the single coil noise is bothering you, You can turn the volume knob from 10 to 8 - 7.5 and boom, the noise is gone, even with gain.
Thank you. I.just this guitar a week ago the Ibanez GRX40 i also have GRX20,Ibanez 5EX1 and RG120EX plus the GRG120BX base
Very complete and interesting. Best review I have seen. Thank you. I'm from France.
Trying to find a "first" guitar. Not sure the GRX40 is it... Great video, even though it is 3 years old it should still be the same?
I use an Ibanez gio every weekend... Stretch new strings and I have zero problem with tuning stability....
First of all, thanks for this video, I used it to buy my own GRX40! And as a request, you should make a video about tweaking a trem system on these cheap guitars, I would like to play with the tremolo a little bit on this guitar, not dive bombing, but some vibrato, and I'm sure that there's a lot of guitarists that would be interested in that video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge man! Cheers from Chile
thank you, I found this guitar while i was working to my work, It sound good, at first has problem tuning, I change the string and it sound good, i will do the sound adjusment, to practice with my friend. thank you for your video, it helps me a lot.
my first guitar since 2009
thanks, I get the point as I expected it's good for a hobby & having fun but not intended for the pros..
A trem system has to settle and get used often so the 6 screws on the pivot points grind slighly and get smooth and find an even contact. Also the strings moving thru the nut will free them mostly. But first of all: a proper setup is needed. Second: lubing all friction points: nut, stringtrees, trem-screws, saddles underneath the strings, even the spring ends on the claw. On the next setup of mine, I will lube thrifty even the spring ends that hook up in the trem block. Important also: to wind the strings very tight on the posts. Then maybe adding one or two springs can help too. And last: after down push of the trem a slight pull up, or viceversa.
Just want to help😊✌🏼
Thank you👍✔
@@josemiguelnavarro1433
You‘re welcome 😊
You help a lot 👈🏼👀👍🏼 !!!
Last trick: pull the G string up and let it snap on the fretboard. Back in tune 98%😉😊
Would you recommend this guitar for a complete beginner? Thanks from Germany!
I still reckon its simply ideal for a beginner that's into the metal genre.thats where Ibanez basically gains more attention as apposed to the fender Squier.also the Ibanez Gio has a slight more sleek look with the sharper finishers on the headstock and the body on this guitar which makes it more attractive looking than the classic fender stratocaster look..although u are paying for what you get in the end so u can't really expect a entry level made guitar to play the best.i think it's great for a beginner. 🙌🏻👍🏻
Great review! Very clarifying and detailed
Great video!
Bought this guitar in metallic green and now I am waiting impatiently for it to arrive🙂 I am a beginner at electric guitar, but I would love to be able to fix that tremolo system if it is at all possible. Do you have any tips for fixing it on this specific guitar?
Hey, I just read your comment and I hope you don't have struggling with your guitar. I got one, on black night finish, since 2010. If you wanna put the tremolo on action and avoid tuning issues, I would recommend don't use the tree strings (string guides on the headstock) because they put too much friction on the strings, particularly the 3rd & 4th strings. I also recommend put some pencil graphite on the nut, just where the strings enter in contact with the canal. At last, I would say that you need to know how to string a guitar properly. If you don't put the strings on the tuners with a good technic will get variations and inconsistencies with the tune. And remember that is a tremolo not a Floyd Rose, so you can't be too rough with the bar. By the way, if you need anything about how to set up your guitar, I would be glad on give you advice. Cheers.
@@shynerglad9224 Hi there Shyner, thank you for your comment and good advice. Since I recieved my guitar, I've run into some tuning issues. I find that the guitar goes out of tune everytime that I bend the strings and when I use the tremolo bar (as expected). In the beginning the problem was quite severe. I tried to apply some graphite to the guitar nut, but it didn't seem to change anything, then I tried to mix a little bit of locking oil with some graphite, that seemed to help a bit with tuning instability (I've also changed the strings to a set of Slinky Ball of the same string gauge). You wrote something about removing the string trees, should i get rid of them or just change them out with a better patent/brand? Thanks in advance :)
Thank you, a very good review part one and two… I was just about to buy one and you changed my mind!
Hi Max, as you asked I came to your channel through the algorithm. Your reviews are technically the best! Please keep this level of detail. I'm looking for a HSS equipped guitar and am an Ibanez fan and wow, the tones are really something out of the two single coils - sharper and more lively than your strat (sorry). The crack in the paintwork has really put me off though so I'm going to look at the GSA60. Any plans for a review?
Hey guys, if I could change the neck pick up, what could it be the most suitable for this guitar? I know that some may say that it would be better buying other guitar, but anyway. Thanks in advance
Hey man, I'm in Orange County, and your video showed up in my suggestions. Great vidd series good sir! Subscribed 😎🔝💯🆔️
Best review ever!!! Congratulations
Howzit Max, Emmanuel from south Africa here, thanks for an awesome in depth video very educational and essential. I am actually looking for a replacement for my Ibanez RG series. Only bought it for its superb action but not a fan of the dulled sound It lacks that brightness, I'm not a fan of strats I'm more in between straty and humbucky sound. I have a 1985 midi guitar with no name pickups that is set up this way but sounds so much similar to this with a split coil bridge which is no longer used because it was dropped quite badly. This however is quite a good guitar for an average guy like myself.
Hi This is very awesome review I've ever seen.. thanks so much for make this high quality & very detail video..
one more thing, I am about to buy a new guitar. I am beginner.
and I am about to buy a entry level guitar (budget guitar).
I am considering this 2 guitars
- Ibanez (any entry level price)
- Yamaha Pacifica 112
What do you think or your personal opinion from those guitars, for beginner like me?
Thanks in advance.
Wish you all the best
Keep it up!
Ibanez
Which guitar should i take?
1. Ibanez grx40
2. Ibanez grg140
What would be the better choice? This or the Pacifica 012?
@Bijan if you're into SSS pups configuration strat. type guitar as well try checkin' Tagima T635. it's a SSS pups config. but with a 2 post trem. bone nut and vintage tuners. a bit expensive but worth the price.
If I changed the nut and the bridge, would it be usable in a gig?
No guitar is "gig ready" out of the box, the same way a car is not road ready before one adjusts the driver's seat and mirrors. Stop taking "beginners" for idiots. If they are going to learn to play, they can also learn to do a set-up.
So cool that Ibanez changes the string spacing from the bridge to the neck, as well as curving the neck pocket. They are just better than Fender.
Now, a 4.69k neck pickup to me is not good.
The best review ❤
What are your thoughts on kramer focus and fender bullet strat? (Don't say I'd like to try one😅, give ur opinion or review )
Wonderful video! thank you
I'm playing to buy an electric guitar between this one and fender squire stratocaster. Which one should i go for?
The one that you can try before buying
Hi. Do you have a review of your Cort Les Paul? I have the exact same guitar and color.
Fantastic thanks mate 👍🏼
Hi my name is Daniele,
I would like to learn to play the electric guitar and combine it with my musical productions. The thing that struck me most is the vastness of sounds of this guitar which make it adaptable to many genres. (I produce Electronic Gospel). I listened carefully to the defects and I think that starting (I don't understand anything anyway) could be a good start, thinking about what I will need in the future.
If you have any suggestions in this price range please let me know to compare. Thank you for your video, truly exhaustive, and I want to let you know that I really liked your overall mix and the comparison with the other guitars. Thank you!
In case of trem.I think if you want it to more stay in tune. You should change tuner (I have Ibanez jbm20 it's fr guitar but use gotoh locking tuner. The surprising is I've never used locking nut at all it's stay in tune event though I use trem heavily .And may be change the nut.
ps.I agree with you that 6 points trem isn't desire for staying in tune.
Can you review Yamaha Pacifica
I just purchased this guitar for my daughter who is a beginner player, who started on acoustic guitar. I myself am a guitar player but haven't played in years due to injuries from auto accident that doesn't allow me to use my left arm properly. Obviously this is a cheap priced guitar. A lot less than my first Ibanez I purchased back in 1987. LOL Anyway, I feel, from reviews I have seen and from me playing it that it seems to be a hit or miss guitar. You may get a good one in the bunch or you may get a bad one. The one I purchased does not sound right. It seems to have weak input from the B and high E strings. Specially the B string just sounds very low compared to the others. Also, when using it with distortion, it sounds out of tune. Even though it is in tune, I have to tune down the A string to make it sound right when playing power cords on the E , A and D string. Kind of weird is it not?
As well, the paint quality is lacking. I got the mint green one and where your elbow rests has more pearl in it than the rest of the guitar and makes it look like it is worn there. I would love to find a setup video for this guitar to see if I can improve the sound.
what are your thoughts about squier classic vibes?
I’d love to try one
Could u do an epiphone les paul special II Review?
Agreed!
I really want to see your opinion about bullet strat.
Never played one. But let's see how this year is gonna go
Excelentes videos, me convenciste de comprar esta guitarra!, saludos de 🇨🇴🤘
Heyy please review yamaha pacifica 012
Yeah, in part 2 I still state the pups must be changed. Strat amd LP sound much better
Just got this guitar used for my first guitar $140.00 us hope it's not to bad 😞
hey patrick, just saw your comment here and I plan to buy this guitar for myself. after 1 year, what can you tell me about it ?
Ibanez GRX40 fantastic
Great tech review dude! 👍🏼. This is a good guitar for beginners
Apakah neck nya kecil?
Very nice review, I am impressed by the tremolo system although not perfect but better than the tremolo system on my US stratocaster, which I had to block. I hate Fender for that because a guitar that cost nearly 10 times the Ibanez should have a decent tremolo system. 🤓
6 screws dont work? Take out 4 of them.
Excelent!!!!
The ibanez sustained is the best
👍
The cheap 6-screw "vintage" bridge on my Harley Benton ST-62 comes back to pitch after dive bombs or pulls just as it should. It is set floating with the front screws loosened enough to allow the plate to move and I lubricated both the nut and string trees. People criticising such bridges are just passing on prejudices instead of learning to set them up properly.
Here's how: ua-cam.com/video/O0Oyc6slYRc/v-deo.html
Thank you so much✔👌
That is also what 60 cycle hum says.
Nice ...
Wow... so thick inner wall in your apartment)))
Yeah, the house was built in early 1900
Ibanes grx40 vs grx70?
Good?
I would like this guitar a lot more if the chinese ibanez talman didn't exist.
