I have a Kato Amtrak Superliner set that I bought 8 years ago next month. I have added more track, more Superliner cars & a baggage car to my train set that I have put away, I will be setting it up the end of this month. In the future I plan on getting more Superliner cars so my train will be the Coast Starlight. I have a plan to have my layout in the future be of the Pacific Surfliner/Coast Starlight route from San Diego to San Luis Obispo,CA, my favorite Amtrak route.

The Downeaster Amtrak trains run between Boston North Station & Brunswick, ME. Amtrak’s Northeast Regionals run between Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore,Washington,DC,Richmond,Newport News, Norfolk & Roanoke,VA. The Acelas run between Boston & Washington,DC. I travel by Amtrak when I travel long distance & when I’m home in the San Diego area I ride the Pacific Surfliners between San Diego,Los Angeles & Oxnard,CA alternating my visits between Los Angeles & Oxnard,CA.
Same, the Downeaster goes from Portland Maine - Boston Massachusetts And it’s speed is normally 79 MPH At track speed. And the trains are usually powered by a GE P42DC Or a NPCU EMD F40PH
Nice review! I just ordered this set to get back into model railroading. It'll just go around the Christmas tree this year, but hopefully I'll build it into a small layout afterwards.

it is a shame that hornby dropped there clip togehter track, as it is a very smart idea. i really like the way kato have nailed the clip together track, clip together modular controllers (those controls are just lovely)
Considering buying this set, BUT want to know if I would be stuck with just the three cars it comes with. Would like to add additional cars like 3 more sleepers and autoracks. What's the point of buying a set if you can't add to it. I'm assuming they would have to be Phase V or newer to couple up to the cars in this set.

BlueDog23 I'm getting this same set.. when you assembled the Track it shows there are 8 Section 4 for each corner I'm getting a Folding Leg table it measures 30' inches Wide X 72' inches Long the Same as you 4 X 6 sheet of Particle board... what I'm wondering would that 30' inches wide be sufficient for the Radius of the Curves.. hopefully it will be or I will have to get a board that will Accommodate the Width of the Radius.. Can pass on to me what the Width is ASAP Thanks.. AKR
BluDog35 BlueDog35 I got my Set the same one as you got the Amtrak I got it up and Running on the Board I mentioned the 30 X 30 X96 and I'm using a Little bigger Curved Track the 13 3/4 - 45 its running fine but when I run the set in Clock Wise.! Direction) The Way I seen your's in your Video I had to switch my Controller to Reverse to run it Forward is there something you had to do to run it this way is that the Normal Direction..

KATO would do like they do when you Buy Individual pieces they have some writing on the Bottom of the Case and on sides so you know what is and less confusion, It it Nice they added Wording on the Individuals pieces.. Bluedog35 I expanded my set a little spent some money an added a Mainline Passing Set) I got Larger Curves as mentioned in my Previously post and some more Track got just enough room to add.. A Automatic 3 Color Signal that is if I can figure a way to get it to set flat on this board of mine the screws protruding from the signal sits it above the board, Trains go over in a Awkward way so I may have to Drill some holes and mill out the area for the Base of the Signal to set Flat.. Hopefully I can add it in.. Pass on if can what you added to Your Set.. Like to see Later AKA

@@timothytaylor7181 this video is quite old. I’ve been out of the hobby for a long time. So I’m not really the best authority for this. I’d just research as much as possible. I believe newer Kato products are easier to add DCC. but this design is like 12 or so years old.
Pretty sure I never said kota. People pronounce all kinds of things differently. The "correct pronunciation of this brand is KAY TOW But a lot say KAH TOW or some other variant. It happens.
BluDog35 actually, on the Kato website, they say to pronounce it KAH-TOE, because KAY-TOW is the name of a lot of movie characters, or real people ( Kato Kaelin) and so on. But otherwise, great video! I might get this because of your review!

They all have the same couplers. You could hook up a freight car to them. Or a steam engine. Normal type. No special couplers here.

They do make the locomotives and cars in HO. They just don't package them together.

akr3985fan I Don't think 30 inches will work. 4 foot by 6 foot is 48 inches by 72 inches. You may need a board to widen the table.
