I like HRE a lot, but playing defensively makes me distracted, I don't know how to explain it exactly, maybe due to the lack of experience in the game. That's why I prefer to play with more aggressive civilizations, attack first, damage the enemy. I was currently playing with the Ottomans, but I stopped for a while for study reasons.
@@Thehoneybadger90 yeah going against HRE I am always afraid of the MAA because many civs do not have a real counter. Feels wasted to just play defensively with HRE in feudal
Splash damage is only from projectiles. Mangonels chiefly, and to a lesser extent trebuchet. English have a treb splash damage upgrade. What landsnakes do is AOE damage, which is “area of effect”.
@@IIlTheCrowlII Not always, i think. AoE is more often associated with any kind of effect in an area Like you can have an aoe heal, aoe buff, aoe debuff but nobory ever says "splash damage debuff". Also splash damage is very often secondary damage as in you have a primary attack that deals full damage to the priary target and then splash damage in an area around and that damage that may or may not be reduced. I'm sure there's also games where some area of effect buffs/heals etc. that get weaker the further a unit is away from the center of the circle (or whatever shape) but that seems rare. Still love his videos of course. But I think saying aoe instead of splash damage would lead to less confusion.
Thanks for the guide! I look forward to learning HRE actually! Can you still emergency repair from a different TC? I thought the separation made it have its own buffs and influence, but if this is allowed then it's game changing! I don't dislike the idea as it's a game based on civilizations and not separate settlements only. HRE sounds awesome for going for wonder win. Can the prelates survive animal attacks easily? Also can the opponents tell which towers hold a relic other than judging the distance?
There is one HRE strat that requires Mainwerk and its feudal maa ram push and you need it cause of all the upgrades u need to get from blacksmith as you can begin attacking with rams around 6min
@@Tom3K_grabarzzzz most civs can do that. ottomans get increased production speed around smithies, and free archers from schools. for french you cant speed it up but knights already counter men at arms. dehli can garrison a scholar for 2x archer production, china can boost their archery range with an official, abbasids have camel archers which are even better vs men at arms, mongols get 2x archer production with ovoo, rus has an abundance of wood you can use to spam archers, malians have really good archers aswell, english have super fast longbowmen which are also a lot better than normal archers. My question to you is which civ can't mass archers by then? even HRE can do that if you build your aachen next to your woodline.
Why isn't feeding HRE sheep as Mongols a commonly mentioned strategy? How significant is the friendly food gathering penalty when factored against the Age2 landmark inspiration?
Is there a gather penalty for Mongol sheep like for Malian cows? If not Mongol sheep indeed is gathered faster. However, I think the strat is hardly viable for two reasons: 1. Food amount of sheep 2. Spawning rate by pastures. You would burn through sheep just too quickly. Sure, you could adjust the amount of vills gathering from them and/or build more pastures, but then you need to factor in the opportunity costs and weigh it against the return. Let's have a quick & dirty calculation with the burger palace rush. For constant MAA production you'd need 100f every 4.5 seconds. One inspired villager without upgrades will gather from sheep 1.05f per second or 4.725f per 4.5 seconds. That means you would need to have a bit more than 21 vills on Mongol sheep to constantly produce MAA. The problem is, that a pasture provides only 250f every 140 sec supporting only around 1.7 villagers. To support all of your 21/22villagers you would need 13 pastures. That is an investment of 1950 wood! An inspired vill gathers from Malian Cattle 0.66*1.4 = 0.924f per second, meaning you would need 24 villagers to support constant MAA production. There is probably a max number of vills that can harvest one cow and let's assume the capacity is 8. You would need 3 cows to feed your 24 vills. A cow however would last about 67seconds. As one mill trains a cow in 15s, one mill is enough to provide cattle for 24 vills. Here we are talking about an investment of 50w and additionally 270gold roughly every minute. For 7 minutes your Malian mate has to invest less than your Mongol player, not considering the time value of ressources and the individual value of wood for Mongol compared to abundant gold for Malian. You might have gained a small food gathering advantage, but at what cost? Your Mongol player is probably heavily delayed while also spending attention to the tedious building of pastures. I'd argue that it is not worth it. In fact, during the winter team championship, there was a game China+Abbasid vs. Mongol+ China on Jousting Fields (a map where teams are split up to fight on 1vs1 lanes). The Mongol player chopped through the forrest barrier to sling his Chinese mate with sheep. And indeed it helped the Chinese to gain a considerable advantage over the opponent's Abbasid player. However, the 2nd Chinese player (Leenock, if I remember correctly) could boom basically untouched facing no opposition by the Mongol player. In the end, the game wasn't even close. Although the Abbasid player was almost defeated, the Mongol player had crippled himself so much that contested China+ Mongol didn't stand a chance against uncontested China.
total noob here. 120-140 workers are standard? sounds insane in a 200 supply game. those armies are gonna be tiny. why does it work this way? shouldnt a 100 supply army beat a 60 supply army so badly that the eco doesnt matter?
The 60 military will be reinforced faster than the 100 because of the eco behind them. Plenty of people play for earlier and bigger aggression though to interrupt the eco boom before the game gets to that point.
Not unless you're Mongols no. Reinforcements are extremely significant, as long as you fight outside your home turf and have walls/keeps etc to delay any push after losing your army; you should be able to recoup and fight back vs an army supported by fewer workers. Think about it, how many games do you see actually go to a forced landmark victory, not many. Usually it's a surrender demanded from their economy being struck or being behind in both military AND economy.
Speed of military production, not size of military is what wins games in imperial age (even in long castle age). 120 works will get you faster military production. This example may make more sense. If the 100 supply army player can only make 100 new units over the next 3 minutes and the 60 supply army can make 180 units over the same period, who do you think wins the battle? I hope it makes sense now.
So if I’m hre and I build a cathedral. I should put the relics in castles or towers instead of the cathedral, as I will receive the same economic bonus + the additional tower stats?
Never as a replacement, it's something you add to your MAA blob when you're against a lot of melee units, typically other MAA blobs (eg. mirrors or English).
No he meant you get the resources to research upgrades faster. Which in practice gets you them earlier since resources are usually the limiting factor in blacksmith upgrades, not the research time.(At least for good macro players who remembers to upgrade lol)
@@IIlTheCrowlII Yes exactly what I mean. Chapel may get you upgrades at a similar time from giving you the resources to afford them. So it ends up doing what the Meinwork does and more. Research time is pretty irrelevant usually, how often can you NOT possibly delay a fight by 30 sec, AND the one upgrade is difference between a win or loss.
