It's sad what happened to the series. It was my favorite superhero show growing up, but that's the business side of life. Especially with those discarded scripts, that would have been awesome, but alas. It was nice to see him show up in Young Justice. He didn't do much, but it was nice to know he wasn't forgotten. Hopefully, only better things come for him in the future, we can only hope.
I love Static! That is his true superhero name just Static. I heard this pointed out by other fans online. It’s a common misconception to call him by the name of the cartoon series but I do have to admit that the title of the cartoon is also very catchy but you did a fantastic job of explaining the character’s background and personality and I would strongly support a movie about Static! He definitely needs his own movie! The cartoon series was at its’ peak during the first two seasons in my opinion.
RIP to the GOAT, the inspiration for Steel and the only man who could reign in Bruce Timm's creepy ideas, Dwayne Mcduffie. DC hasn't been the same since he passed.
Static Shock was just a little past my formative years, so in some ways it didn't land for me during the airing time. It was later when I really started to get with it and I think the show and the comic character is at the top of the game. I need to watch through the series again. They NEED bring back Static Shock! It would go so hard.
this really warmed my heart, thanks for this! static shock was one of my go-tos as a kid and mcduffie's death in 2011 was heartbreaking. here's hoping for a proper comeback for the homie static
I liked how open the show was, it felt fresh and amazing story wise. whilst not being gate kept because the character was black, you really could understand his point of view be you black or white. It was very refreshing.
Episodes that covered the loss of a parent never did it for me as a kid. But as an adult that has lost his mom. Those episodes now speak volumes to me more than ever
You should look up the video of Phil La Marr, Static's voice actor, talking about why the show ended. He suggests more than just financial concerns as the culprit. It's also been months since we've seen any update on the Static movie. I'm timorous about Live-Action Static until I see firm confirmations from Gunn and Warner Brothers. We also know WB has been in dispute with the McDuffie estate for years over the rights to Static's character. There is a lot going on behind why Static was MIA for so long but this video does a good job of explaining the background.
That's exactly what I was thinking when they got to why static ended. i remember him talking about how one of the higher ups saying "Toys like those wouldn't sell" and those that are smart know what that might imply
Need more shows like static shock. Funny, but not afraid to tackle more serious topics. Definitely better than brain rot that the kids of today get stuck with
Static was an important step for diversity and inclusion because it was creating a new and interesting cast who happened to be mostly black, rather than taking the name and costume styling of an existing popular character and pasying them onto the popular minority of the moment and trying to ride the legacy while simultaneously insulting fans upset about having their long time favorite replaced. Entertainment media has been deathly afraid of any attempt at launching something new for about twenty years and the endless sequels and reboots only feel more obnoxious with that kind of self-righteous political wankery stirred in as well.
Great video. I kind of think the arc with Sharon was hinted at earlier in one of the episodes, because she could see something was up with Virgil, and since they argue like an old married couple, she even pointed it out to their father...she just didn't know what. This was a definite groundbreaking show, and if you pay attention, Virgil/Static comes off like Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

If this live action movie does come out, I hope it does the old cartoon justice. I'm expecting it to be darker. But I want it to have that same grounded in reality vibe the cartoon had. I also want his quirky personality to be just as infectious as his early 2000's counterpart. And tackle something serious aside from racism. Its been done in the show and done well. But a movie that centers around a black character that deals with racism is oversaturated. Give him another heavy topic instead. Perhaps gang violence would be more appropriate since that is how his origin story takes place. It could be the theme of the show and how Bang Babies took over the biggest gangs and its up to Static to stop them from taking over the city. And pair him with another hero like robin or somebody recognizable. Just make Virgil the main character and make it clear that Robin is only a side character or something. I don't want the other hero to take away Static's spotlight, but he could act as his mentor teaching him how to fight for the right causes or something.
