Squiers have come a long way. I was shopping for a new guitar and I was torn between a Fender Player Telecaster, Epiphone Les Paul Custom Koa and an Epiphone Firebird. I was trying to keep it under $700 since I don't really gig or anything. Saw this on Sweetwater Gallery and purchased it after seeing this video. Saved me some dolla for a rainy day.
I have the custom version of this with that classic tele single coil in the bridge and that smooth humbucker in the neck. The thing plays like a dream. Silky smooth neck, just fits so good in my hands, that spanky distortion you get from the bridge or the twangy country/blues you get with a clean tone. The middle position in clean is perfectly for that jangly chord rhythm sound, and the neck is great for that thick solo sound. I can’t say enough about that guitar. Immediately after buying it, I saw this model pop up to take it’s place. Squier (and Fender) are going places with these models.
This is such a good guitar and value. I have the MIM 72 deluxe and the only REAL upgrade is the alder body and maybe tilt shift neck (if you like 12 inch radius). The pickups are exactly the same on both, and this is half the price. I would get this in a heartbeat if I didn't have the Fender reissue already.
@@Venom-eq1vj to the best I could find yes, both are the standard fender wrhb. I have them and while I enjoy them, I do wish they were a little more articulate.
Yes because they are made just for a couple of Telecaster models (Custom, Deluxe, Thinline) and it would be more expensive to create a second production line just to have some cheaper copy for Squier then just use the same.
Wide Range is but a name at this point. The 70s wide frequency range was achieved thanks to CuNiFe magnets that were machined into individual pole pieces, but CuNiFe is really rare and expensive these days (Lollar for example still makes them but charges $400 a set), so Fender/Squier just make the standard AlNiCo design for the 21st century models. There are comparisons of Fender and Lollar pickups out there on UA-cam, and the difference is substantial. That said, the new pickups have a more modern sound and a lot of people prefer it. The smoothness of the tone that you hear is, I think, more attributable to 250k pots (while other guitars with humbuckers usually have 500k pots). I have the Fender model and I absolutely love how it sounds and feels, hands down the best guitar I've ever played or owned, but I have no illusions these are real wide ranges.
I love the Tele shape with dual hum buckers and the LP style toggle switch on the upper horn. The only thing I want to change are the knobs, I’d prefer speed knobs.
I have one. Great guitar but the electronics on it suck. The bridge pickup started cutting in and out after a few weeks of use, until it stopped working completely. It cost me almost half the price of the guitar to get it fixed. I love the guitar but I don’t trust it enough to gig with
Dagan I have ordered one of these due to your ace demo,my wife who normally moans about my guitar purchases was more interested in the fact that she thought you were kenny everett,oh dear Cheers bud
Would like to have heard the pickups full throttle with a Fender, not too overdriven, sound to get a better sense of what they really sound like. They certainly crunch nicely.
How does it compare to Fender Squier Classic Vibe '70s Tele with only neck HB? Which one would be more versatile? Buying a Tele with 2 HBs feels a bit weird. Might as well go for SG then.
I have this guitar. I played it so hard and violently that the bridge pickup cuts in and out. It is harder to play than a lot of other instruments with its setup. It feels "tighter", possibly due to scale length
Since they were announced I've been gunning for a proper review. Andertons did like 3 seconds on it, and said nothing useful... But after considering the other CV models and their Fender counterparts, I went the J. Mascis Jazzmaster way and haven't looked back. The most fun I've ever had with a guitar, and it's better than any other Jazzmaster I've played sub-1500 bucks. Just my two cents :)
Honestly I love and loved the CV like the rest. But the craziest thing is since its left China (weird right??) The indo newer models are nice but from what I'm hearing online they are not as good. Idk. I haven't touched one yet. I'm buying up more pre 2015s lol. I have 2015 CV 60s 3tone and my God. It's crazy what they've done.
@Nart Ahmed Sorry, you are wrong. This one has the bellycut also and to be honest: They simply discontinued the vintage modified version to take more money for the same guitar under the "classic vibe" name
Bit too bright, I'd rather save more n get the fender. Saw comparison vid n that decided it fr me. But it's a great guitar n I do like squire. Great value, great guitars.🙏
Squier Classic Vibes are great guitars for the money wether you're a more experienced player or beginner. I'd recomend them over the more affordable 'bullit' or 'affinity' range of Squiers as a Classic Vibe is just a nicer guitar to keep around as a back-up or just something different when you end up upgrading to a higher end guitar over time. The Tele Deluxe is a nice guitar with those Widerange pickups being voiced to have some singlecoil character aswell, they are nice allrounders that will fit most musical styles apart from crazy heavy stuff maybe. Finding replacements can be a bit of a challange as Widerange pickups are in a bigger housing compaired to regular humbucker pickups. So it's worth keeping that in mind. I myself am a experienced player/collecter and just orderred the purple sparkle fsr version of this guitar and I already have an actual Fender Deluxe aswell. I just dig that purple sparkle finish but I'm planning on upgrading the pickups in the Squier to something that will sound closer to the actual vintage Widerange pickups from the 70's. I think it's really up to if you like the actual model as say a 'normal' Telecaster will be easier to find 'upgrade' pickups for. There are Widerange upgrades but it's a niche market so don't expect to find alot that will make it sound like a firebreathing shred rock guitar. Again this doesn't mean you can't play it like a shred rocker. I hope this made any sence, or is helpful in any way, drop a comment if want to know more. It's hard to pick out just one guitar for a beginner so my general advice is to skip the real affordable stuff and the rinky dinky mini amps with a gazillion functions in them, to start with. I'd recomend a Boss Katana amp but again skip the smallest as they can sound like a can of bees playing when you play with distortion. As for type of guitar, just check out what your favourite bands are playing. Any Fender or Gibson style guitar will have a more budget friendly Squier or Epiphone version and will be a safe choice in the long run.
Yes it would, i used to play it in Open C tuning and with Gauge 12 strings and you would't believe the sound i got out of it! So if you want to play metal with it go for it!
