This is great. I just figured out how to transfer movies from my Plex to VHS using a PS3 hooked up to a VCR through the AV cables. And this will be perfect to make boxes. Also good to see you again. I got a bunch of monstervision stuff from you years ago off the Facebook group. Still got them to with those awesome metal intros!
Do you know where I might be able to find slipcovers for VHS movies? I am attempting to create a wall display for the universal monsters VHS tapes but do not necessarily need/want the VHS tape itself.
If you are looking for the original slip covers, your best best is to check in VHS groups on reddit or facebook. sometimes the tapes are no longer good and people will sell just the slips. Other than that check out your local thrift stores. Most of the UM tapes are pretty common and you can find them all the time at places like goodwill for a quarter each.
you want to hide any guide lines before printing. Everything you submit in the image will be printed. You can leave them and try and cut along the lines, but i find it's really hard to do that perfect so they won't show. I always hide them then just use a ruler when cutting to make sure my folds are lined up and straight.
I've noticed that the cardstock option is no longer available for tabloid size. Do you know if this has happened before and maybe the site has just ran out of tabloid sized cardstock and plan to restock? Or maybe know of another backup site to use in case, even if the prices aren't as cheap?
that sucks, they must have just removed the option. I'll try and reach out and see what's up. That's the only printer I've used personally. I'll try to dig around and find alternatives, but hopefully they will restock.
Big boxes where used before they went to regular sized slips. It was a oversized box with a tray or clam shell inside that held the tape. If you look into wizard releases it was also the standard for adult tapes.
If I wanted to do a slip for a Disney tape, I would look online and find a high resolution cover scan of the original art then resize that to fit the slip template in photoshop. Then just duplicate the spine for both sides.
I personally think 100 is too thin. This print company no longer offers 14 but I did a update video showing that you can get 12pt prints from office depot. As of right now that is the best and most affordable option to order prints with no min number requirement.
@@ClairviusVideo So 12pt is essentially 110 card stock I believe? Any recommendation for a DIY practical way to print at home for presentation / sale level items? Printers etc ?
@@Aaron-ys3kh 12pt and 110 is really close, it all depends on what brand paper the printer uses. 110 copy paper isn't as stiff as 12pt cover stock most of the time. I use a HP Color LaserJet Professional CP5225dn that I picked up dirt cheap at a thrift store. For paper I go to my local dollar store and buy $1 poster boards then cut them into 11x17 sheets. You get 4 prints per poster board.
@@Aaron-ys3kh For the most part I stick with a smooth gloss stock unless you want to do a project that emulates a older release, say something like a paragon or WB maybe even the old CBS Fox releases, then I would go with a matte finish.
I use a HP Color LaserJet Professional CP5225dn Printer, but any color laser printer will work as long as it prints tabloid size paper (11x17). Keep your eyes open at government auctions and donation based thrift stores. That's how I found my printer used for $100 they are usually like 2 grand.
If you want the lines to be on top of your artwork you can use magic eraser to make the template layer translucent, then put it on top of your artwork. If the template layer is locked just clone the layer first, remove background colors, then hide the locked layer you are no longer using.
If I order them online, I use 14 point glossy cardstock. If i am printing them myself at home. I go down to dollar general and buy the large poster boards in the craft section for $1 each and cut them to size. One poster board makes 4 covers and it is way cheaper than purchasing card stock. The poster board is also thicker, its either at 12 or 10 point if i remember right.
@@ClairviusVideo i was wondering if cutting poster board and putting through my printer would work but i didnt want to take a chance of messing my printer up. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You are the best! Love the joe bob design too

Thanks bro, I haven't been making boots for ages. I do mostly licensed indie films now. Good to hear my old stuff is still holding up though.
Plex, Netflix, Hulu etc all still work?
Joe Bob is the Man. The jamboree is gonna be legit
Looks like they no longer offer the 14pt paper :(. Appreciate the info though!
youre the man for this!!
Thanks for watching, hope it helps you make some sweet vhs \,,/

super helpful!!
Hey, I have used CheaperCopys before but my question is when I send my BHS covers in they are usually sized incorrectly. how do I fix this problem.
When you submit the template, should you leave the little blue/red guide marks on the final image? Or get rid of them before submitting the image?

What do you mean by big boxes? I don’t seem to understand the difference between the four choices besides that there is different flaps 😭 thank you!

And how can I transform a normal cover of a movie (for example, Tarzan of Disney) into a slip box? Thanks!
If I wanted to do a slip for a Disney tape, I would look online and find a high resolution cover scan of the original art then resize that to fit the slip template in photoshop. Then just duplicate the spine for both sides.
I see some people using 100 card stock for this as an alternative to 14 pt. Is this recommend, and if not, where is 14 pt regularly available?

the big box template shows up blank for me before and after download, anyone else or just me?

how do you get the lines above the artwork as well for the folding and cut lines?

Those look great! I actually have two movies that I really wanna get a custom big box ex rental cover made and was hoping you could help me with that😁
Wouldn’t you just print the art out on paper?
