I worked in a dry cleaners when I was younger. Fabric care is a art! You do need these things. What I would add is a mesh flat drying rack for after you roll your sweaters in a towel reshape and lay them flat to dry. If you dry clean your clothes always take the plastic off as soon as you get home and replace the hanger. No wire hangers:)

What I find extremely useful is a bra extender. There are weeks when I gain a kilo and lose it on the following so I use the extender in the back of my bra, I don't stretch it and keep it in a good state for longer.

The one thing I do differently is to use a reusable lint brush instead of the sticky sheet-on-roller type, because it more eco-friendly. I bought mine from the Fuller Brush door-to-door vendor (remember them?) when I was 16. It’s still going strong, I’m 61 now. I’m glad I saved so much non-recyclable sticky paper sheets and rollers over the years. Also, if I need a quick clothing refresher, I use my 1:1 water:isopropyl spray, it makes a great furniture cleaner and surface sanitizer, too, so I always have a spray-bottle or two around. Many people use a vodka mixture spray, but I can’t stand the smell, I don’t drink, and think the rubbing alcohol is probably cheaper.

I really like Eucalan, a no rinse wool wash for my wool items. It does an excellent job on my cashmere sweaters! My one big item that I can't live without is my clothesline. There's something about cotton that line/air dries. I have a line outside and drying racks for winter or bad weather inside.

An item that people sometimes don't think about is a small brass suede brush. It's great for fluffing up the suede, especially where the back gets flattened from driving, or if you've gotten caught in slush or something. I got mine at my dance shop- ballroom shoes have suede soles. Having a shoe care kit is so important, especially when you start to buy better quality. Looking after higher quality things takes time!

Everything on your list is essential for me, too. I would add: my drying racks and the clothesline I put up high in my laundry room for hanging longer items to dry, and my tall laundry room fan, which cuts drying time in half, keeps clothes moving for fewer wrinkles, and I use just to freshen clothes, instead of chemical sprays. (I don’t put most clothes in my tumble dryer, but dry them flat, on hangers or my racks). Also my Magic Sizing ironing spray, it’s great for light body and so much easier to use than starch, which scorches really easily. Also, my shoe care box with polishes for every color, cleaning supplies, leather treatments, and materials for polishing and buffing. I love my clothes and accessories and enjoy taking care of them, even ironing, except when it’s hot.

Do not wash your hands while wearing your beautiful jewelry. Try not dry your clothes completely in the drier. I found that if I dry my clothes too much, it damages the fibers.

Cute dogs! Another fab video. I have or have had all these things (need a new travel steamer as previous one just got too old!) I would add: clear shoe/handbag balm/polish that can be used on shoes and handbags, to treat, nourish, protect. Nail files, tweezers, nail clippers, and one for toenails. I have always had a sewing kit, needle, thread, good sizzors, safety pins, and including crochet hooks for any snags. Much prefer the lint remover that is like a velcro on a handle (on one way, off the other) instead of sticky. A wooden shoe brush and a wooden clothes brush. Clear nail varnish. Optional: a pair of cotton gloves as needed to handle delicates that can snag. CEDER MOTH BALLS or equivalent, good quality moth repellant in drawers to keep cashmeres protected. From time to time, depending on the dresser, I use good quality paper scented drawer liners. I have a few shoe trees for special shoes, the half size kind that go in the front part of the shoe to keep the shape - somehow these feel more easy to handle and more feminine than whole shoe 'trees'. Love Woolite, sometimes can't find it and have purchased others...... they are ok. Voila! Merci Marie-Anne for great videos and great content. 🙏

Dryel home dry cleaning! Much cheaper than the dry cleaner. Buy the starter kit so you have the bag, which can hold 2 mens suits. Works in 30 minutes in your dryer. Love love love it! Instead of a mesh lingerie bag, I use an old pillow case and sew it shut. I find that sometimes a bra will work its way out of the zipper, also the hooks will grab onto the mesh and tangle up. "d.fuzz.it" sweater/fabric comb! When my husband was in the hospital I sat with him all day, defuzzing my jacket with this fabulous gadget. Looking at it closely, I would say it is just drywall sanding screen (which also works on your feet). It is small (7.5 cm X 4 cm), manual (so no sound), perfect for travel (or sitting in hospital rooms).

Never leave the house without checking what you look like from behind! I even bought a full-length mirror to hang on the wall at my office. So it fell off the wall and broke. Seven years' bad luck? It sure seemed like it, starting the very weekend it broke. I bought a replacement mirror and just leaned that one against the wall.

I make my own laundry detergent. 1/2 cup of washing soda, 1/2 cup of borax, 1/2 cup of Blue Dawn in a jug. Fill with water. It works great. I put the washing soda and borax together in a food processor to get out the lumps. I use a funnel to put one cup of that mixture in the jug, add water and shake then add the 1/2 cup of Blue Dawn and fill to the top with water. Washing soda I buy at the Healthy Planet. If I can't get it in time, I bake baking soda for 2 hours in a 350 degree oven to make it into washing soda. There you have a couple of years of experience. Save money!

I agree with you about the generator iron and steam cleaner wouldn't be without these either.
On watching the full video I have to say the only one I don't have as her are the velvet hangers but will most definitely be buying these thank you

I have everything but the steam iron and the velvet hangers. I absolutely hate the process of having to get out and put away an ironing board. It must be put away, as I live in a studio apartment. If I had a room that could be solely dedicated to it, that would be different. I have to say, that steam iron you showed looked amazing. I am content with my hand held steamer though. I love my clothes shaver. Thank you, these were all great suggestions!

Use all of these with the exception of a mannequin. I’m very picky about preservation of what I wear and how I clean and store items. Pilling of garments just makes them seem tired and worn and I love the battery powered lint remover item, works so well.

I too could not live without my mannequin. I use it for trying different outfit combinations; so much easier than trying everything on. Lately I spent an entire afternoon with my mannequin trying out all my different silk scarves on various blouses, dresses, coats and blazers. So much fun, plus I found a few new combos to try! 💕

A must have for me is a clothes detergent that has no dyes or is made especially for dark clothes.....this keeps those dark clothes dark a bit longer than those strong ones that remove stains.

I wouldn't be without my sweater shaver, either. I wouldn't be without my lint rollers. I have a cat, so her hair is a problem. Especially when she rubs against my legs. I love my mesh bags, especially the ones for my bras. I will not wash anything by hand that I don't have to. I use Woolite. I use velour hangers for my off season clothes. I have a very large coat closet. I use half of it for my coats and jackets and the other half for my off season clothes, so I need to conserve space. I use padded satin hangers in my walk-in closet and I don't have to conserve space in it. I need the silver jewelry cloth. I use a spray protector for my suede items, but I also have one for my leather items.

If you don't have/can't find your silver cleaning cloth, foundation will remove tarnish from silver jewellery. I put a drop on a tissue or cotton pad, a quick rub and rinse et voila. Shiny as new.

I love my tiny crochet hooks -- 1.30-1.55 mm -- for pulling through the occasional snagged yarn or thread instead resorting to scissors. (Another comment, s'il vous plaît: when ordering, please search for alternatives to Amazon -- merci! :)

@@MarieAnneLecoeur Marie-Anne, one key aspect of elegance is its fully sensual nature, and Amazon has destroyed sensuality in modern life -- first, it deprived us of our bookstores, then went on to decimate all the small shops where one could encounter, explore and compare REAL goods! Great tips! I have been afraid to try rechargeable sweater razors as I was afraid it could grab a 'pull' and pull the sweater into itself & ruin the sweater. Now I feel confident on which one to get.

Excellent list! I put an extra point roller in my car so that I can get rid of any stray hairs that my kids or husband have gotten in the car or any stray hairs that have been pulled by my purse or seat belt.
I would also add a dressing gown to the list. I have long hair, and if I brush my hair without protecting the outfit I'm going to wear out, I get stray hairs all over it that don't show up at hair because they work themselves out of the ends. I don't know why, but I get embarrassed to have hair (pets' or my own) on me. I think it makes my clothing look dirty.

When your polishing cloth gets full of tarnish stains, consider switching to ... toothpaste! As long as it's not the gel type of toothpaste it will clean your silver like new in seconds, without scratching it and is completely non-toxic.

Marie-Anne, I had a Rowenta that was not the cheaper version at $40-50 of today which was very good but when it went bad, I replaced with a Shark which is a dream to iron with. It is a steam iron but I don’t like it like that so as long as I put it on the right setting it does the job really quickly with no effort and the best part is that if it is left on the piece it shuts off within secs. All who take your things to the cleaners, beware (in the US, if someone who does the cleaning likes something it “gets lost”) where you take it. I mean develop a relationship with a dry cleaner establishment and you will get your things back.I use the lint roller, sweater shaver, I use better hangers (nothing from the stores - that is my pet peeve) but since I live in Tx we have no use for Woolite (whatever needs special cleaning it says on the label what needs to be done).
