The MB5 is an absolute monster in energy fighting. Very fast in a straight line, also. Very few things can touch it in Sim when played correctly.

@@Alexandros11 I think it’s hilarious that RB has become the standard for judging planes objective performance. Sim (while still being flawed) is a much less flawed system when looking at actual performance when being flown, not being controlled from a 3rd person POV.
iirc, the MB.5's engine is lacking ingame compared to historically. its WEP is equivalent to its historical mil power, and its mil power is equivalent to its historical peacetime power. so in terms of horsepower, climbing on WEP is basically like climbing on 100% power, which most certainly doesn't take advantage of the legendary Griffon. its power to weight ratio should be significantly higher. if this were fixed i'd gladly play it even at 6.0 as it'd be performing up to its historically great reputation
Not really, WEP real life = 2,340 hp, WEP in game = 2,280 hp. Sure its inaccurate, but the WEP in game isn't close to being military power (1,900 hp). I've said many times, the issue is not the aircraft, its RB. Try it in sim.

This thing is really fast, but thats about it. It's also at 5.0 and gets regularly sucked into the black hole of 6.0.

Yes, nothing can catch this monster. 620km/h on the deck in straight line easy. It is as fast as tempest or other super props at 6.3-6.7 but at 4.7 in SB.
How does it compare to wyvern in SB?
@@comediangj4955 wyvern is great attacker for SBGF as it is super fast, drop bombs on enemy tanks and fly straight line low - nothing will catch you. MB.5 is a fighter, it is more agile and in general better than wyvern for air combat, both you should use in similar way b&z attacks and then just hit the deck and fly away straight line if followed by enemy.
I quite like flying it. It’s definitely outclassed by 5.7 planes. Great bomber hunter.

For the first clip I feel like exploding or at least not ending up alive is something you would expect from attempting a 375 km/h belly landing with an aircraft like the MB-5 with the very obvious air intake there.
Nope. You don't have a solid piece there like the engine block to screw up your trajectory on impact. In fact, your front engine is going to "cushion" the nose impact after being pulled to the ground when the air intake "catches" the runway.
In fact, you can safely belly land a P-51 anytime.
In fact, there's plenty of photos of WWII airplanes which literally fell out of the sky and didn't explode, while roughly "preserving" the aircraft silhouette/shape.
There's some stupid WT mechanics at play. A few years ago I exploded trying to belly land a Spitfire Mk. Vc which has a front DUST filter, as well as a Typhoon which has the front/chin radiator.

The MB5 wasn't really based on the P51. Maybe it was a bit influenced by the p51 in things like the under fuselage radiator, but it's very much unrelated.
Yep, "an experimental improvement on the P-51", did he just make this up? The design was based on earlier MB.3 and 4 prototypes, its development was completely unrelated.

Where you find that information that MB.5 based on P-51? I really love this plane and found many sources of information about it and nothing that I found say what you said.
It's not, this information was just made up. The MB.5 was developed from the earlier MB.3 and 4 prototypes.

The mid-map AAA is honestly why I stopped playing a few months back. I got on with new gaming PC, took out an I-15 and I didn't even make it to the battle because mid-map AAA shot me down on Afghanistan before I even merged with anyone. I just climbed, got set on fire, and burnt up. I was like, "nah man, I'm good on that." Until they nerf it, I probably won't be back truthfully.

8:11 problem is if you judge any fighter in RB, it boils down to essentially its ability to climb. This is an extremely shallow and essentially meaningless way to evaluate an aircrafts performance. The only thing this tells me is that RB is a bad game mode, not that the MB.5 is a bad plane. P.S. if it had larger wings it would forfeit is largest advantage, its incredible straight line speed.

Climb rate is very important but "decent enough" climb (which this has - it climbs about the same as the P-47D-28 which is a good 5.0 plane) is more than sufficient if the plane is actually good in any other meaningful way...which the MB.5 really isn't.
It has good straight line speed, but P-51s at that BR are basically just as fast at altitudes relevant for gameplay, while doing everything else much better on top of that.
There's plenty of planes that aren't the very best climbers, but are still extremely good in air RB because they're actually good in other aspects, the MB.5 isn't one of them. The issue is that it literally is unable to dogfight anything at all, even with energy advantage, and on top of that has extremely piss poor energy retention; the only thing it can do well is fly in a straight line, which really doesn't cut it to be considered "good" anywhere. Especially considering it faces planes that are faster and also far superior in every other way too.
What game mode would this plane be good at? Sim? Oh yeah, sure its good at shooting people that don't see you and are unaware of your presence, literally every plane is good at that.

"Piss poor energy retention", why not just come out and say you have no idea what you're talking about? This thing can do takes its energy in a dive from 1km to like 4-5km easy, its untouchable.

Also, boom n zooming is an art in sim, you can't just point and click like in RB, you have to actually aim which isn't easy.
The ultimate reason which shows how wrong you are is that the MB.5s flight data is more or less accurate based on its real evaluations, and had it not been for the end of the war and jets coming along it was considered that the MB.5 would replace the spitfire as the principle fighter of the RAF. The fact that in real life the test pilots considered the aircraft fantastic, and it was considered to be a great performer just shows the gulf between real life and point and click climb fest RB. No wonder that sim, which is far closer to real life, allows the MB.5 to shine as probably the best aircraft in-game.

Its "good" (not really, but decent) at 7.5km + relative to other planes at the BR. Thats an altitude completely irrelevant for gameplay in ANY mode in this game.

The P-51C10 (3.7 plane) is 4% slower than the MB.5, the P-51D10 (4.3) is 3% slower, and the P-51D30 (5.0, same BR) is 1% slower; at altitudes relevant for gameplay in War Thunder (

Hispanos I find pretty good recently. The problem I find is their ballistics are kinda wonky at super close and super far range. Maybe just me. Regardless, I find they do damage pretty consistently as long as you're hitting the target.
You should try the hornet, the wonkyness doesn't really exist on it for some odd reason, they're deathly accurate and are great since they're mk.vs
Ok so I actually bought this recently for SIM which it slaps in but I also decided to give It a try in RB to see how shit it actually is and I have to say I don't hate it at all, it's climb rate isn't great, facing Ta 152Hs is just fucking dumb but it does do things well, it's somewhat fast and turns decently well at medium - high speeds but most surprisingly it doesn't compress at speeds over 600-700 km/h which makes it really good for reversals which makes it quite fun to play at times but that's about it, in a down tier it's pretty alright as well.
This plane has been a blast for me. Using mec and sideclimb for five minutes. Been winning lost matches lol

Play the Seafire FR Mk 47 for us would ya please? I feel like it's a decently powerful aircraft at 5.3, though much heavier than an average Spit. It also has a low-altitude tuned Griffon, which makes for good acceleration on the deck. I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion on it in the current meta.

I quite like the MB5 actually, First time I took it out in RB, I got an ace, also its not my first premium. I'm not sure anything matches its speed at 5.0, and its not hard to get that speed, even in a shallow dive of 5*
The MB.5 can be an absolute monster at evasion if you know on where the source of fire is coming from, and what types of rolls to use.

I'm sorry, the MB.5 is fantastic in RB and Sim, I have several questions of not being able to use it effectively and consistently. It's 'delicate' and 'requires patience', sure, but that doesn't stop it from being an absolute beast when used properly.

I was actually able to get a pretty decent score in this (1.8 k/d), just gotta realize that you're just a speed-stick and not much else, kinda fun at times just for the speed alone but not that fun generally, especially compared to more capable contemporaries. Also not surprised that AA got you, I've been killed by AA almost as much as actual players lately it feels.

Climb rate is fairly competitive with Fw 190 D9. If you're facing Bf 109 K4, most likely you're in a 6.0 game where German team has 4 bombers.

i just bought it, it is very good. its just a mustang. fast as hell in straight line and dive. climbs bad tho because spitfire engine and the engine doesnt start operating supercharger etc until 5000m. Just invest time in climb, it is literally no different from other allied aircraft.
everything aside i find the mb5 to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing aircraft
That belly landing at the start of the video was bad honestly, you came in at 351 km/h in a very steep angle and you didn't really pitch up to touch the ground, the explosion was to be expected

Bought this plane during the last sales and love it. Do335 B2 is one of my favorites and I always get 2-3 kills with this plane. You may not like it because you bought it with your own cash but it is a boom and zoom classic.

The MB5 is based upon the MB3 it has no relation whatso ever with the P51 Mustang, as the MB3 was designed and tested before the Mustang.

You can dislike this plane as much as you want, but do not dare call it the worst premium. This title belongs to Boomerangs, which are outclassed by literally ANYTHING on ridiculous 3.0. They can't climb or accelerate whatsoever, top speed is actually the bottom speed of this br, maneuvers energy loss is insane and while you can perform 1 or maybe even 2 decent loops coming out of dive from like 5000 meters, after that you become slower than a biplane with an engine seemingly worse too, the circumstances in which even an fw190 has better horizontal turn rate. And yeah, if spitfire's engine overheats fast, this abortion's one overheats IMMEDIATELY and just a tiny bit slower if you use manual radiator control. Also it has elevators tightening at approx 500-550 kmh. The only good thing in Boomerang is like infinite ammo for low caliber MGs.

Yeah I've flown this plane 100+ times and hate it. Oddly, my kill-death ratio is average in it. But what I dislike most is its energy loss and slow acceleration, which make its good top speed almost irrelevant after about 5 seconds of combat.
personally, I enjoy the brain dead turn fighting playstyle of the japanese props, honestly it' how the props play that makes it hard for me to transition to the jets, which all fly like bricks.

its got a 20 ms climb rate only the 5.7 spitfires are better at that range and a few other nations aircraft i really enjoy it pretty much nothing can touch me in a straight line so i hunt bombers

I have had a great time in the MB5. It has tons of ammo and at its Br X4 20mm, slaps hard. I bought the MB5 not for performance but more for the history aspect of it, however it performs very well.
You made a lot of claims that the MB5 is an improvement on the P51 and nothing could be further from the truth. The MB5 is not based on the P51 at all. The development of the MB5 predates the P51. The MB5 is a further development of the MB3. I think you’ve got it in your head that the MB5 is based on the P51 so it must fly like a P51 and again, nothing could be further from the truth. It flies more like a clipped wing spit. There are a few really good videos on YT that discusses the history of the MB5.

Do not buy this plane *unless you know exactly what you're getting into*.
Because boy, do I have a blast in this plane. All you do is go fast... but wow does it do that incredibly well. It is the pinnacle of being a positional master in battle. Played well, it will work its way through a team. It's a slow process, but it will do it. It has the speed to disengage from almost anything within its BR range, and given a semi-competent team that doesn't collapse immediately, the MB.5 will eventually put in the work.
If a Zero at these BRs is a min-max for maneuverability, the MB.5 is a min-max for speed. Unfortunately, it's harder to master this, yeah... but that doesn't make it bad. So, uh, skill issue.
